“Aye Sir.” Brenna locked onto the body floating out there. What a horrible way to die. She keyed up the isolation sequence. =/\=Atoded to Sickbay. Locked onto the isolation pod, energizing now.=/\= Her hand slid over the keys as the body was pulled into the transporter beam and reappeared in sickbay.

Atoded, CoS

Sheleah stepped out of the lift and greeted nat with a not quite smile.

“Captain wanted me down here for… Moral support?”

  • Sheleah, CNS/DO

“You are always welcome for that,” Nat smile at Sheleah. “Glad you are here.”

The transport went off without a hitch and the body formed in the pod with the usual energetic shimmer. A moment later the displays lit up. There were no lifesigns for the body. And the readout showed a radiological alert. On closer inspection, it would show that the level of radiation currently coming off the body was relatively low.

Rei

Natasha raised the tricorder and began to read off the results as she frowned at the preliminary ones that began to show. “There is some radiation coming off the body but it is relatively low,” she commented to the counselor.

Natasha Knight CMO

Andriss’s voice came through on the conn, troubled sounding.

=^=I’m afraid that we have more bodies incoming, Medical. Do you have room down there for twelve or can I help you find alternative arrangements?=^=

-XO Andriss Krex, cross-posted

=/\=We are not the morgue and that only holds two. Send them to a cargo bay and put them in a stasis field. We can’t work on more than four without turning us into a morgue.=/\= Looking around the room Natasha let out a deep breath. =/\=Send us five and the other seven to the cargo bay. When we process the first half we can do the next. I will also send down a few nurses to take some samples but the stasis pods should keep them in the same condition they arrived in until we get to them.=/\=

Natasha Knight CMO

Andriss once again came through on the conn.

=^=Copy that. They’ll be waiting for you on Deck 7, Lt. Commander Knight. Let us know if you need our support.”=^=

-XO Andriss Krex, crossposted

=/\=Roger dodger=/\= Natasha said closing off the comms.

Natasha moved to the first body and ran a tricorder over it taking a preliminary scan of the body.

Knight CMO

The body continued to give of flow level radiation, mostly in the form of your run of the mill energetic particles, including a few loose nadions. It appeared to be a male human in his forties, dark skinned, black hair, in reasonable shape, no immediate health concerns. No metabolic or brain activity. Dead.

A closer look showed the jigsaw pattern where blood vessels had erupted through the skin with the exposure to hard vacuum, as well as more of the same inside the lungs. There was evidence of severe burns over the right side of his body and part of his flesh was missing, including his right arm up to the elbow.

Everything was consistent with a ship under fire with crew being blown out into space from battle damage. It was hard to say whether it was the explosion, or the explosive decompression that killed the poor soul.

Rei

Natasha tapped her badge as she pulled off the pair of gloves as she threw them into the disposal unit. =/\=Captain, I have done my first preliminary review of the body. It appears to be a human male about 40 years of age. Right now my best guess is that some explosion of some sort killed him and he was then ejected out into space. He had severe burns and lost an arm which would not usually happen unless he was trying to hold onto something and his arm was ripped off as he got sucked into space. He is emitting a low level of radiation which again leads me to think it was some sort of accident on the ship which started it all. I am about to start my next autopsy. I will contact you if I find anything different with the next body. Knight out. =/\=

Laying a sheet over the body, Nat activated an isolation field around the body and moved to the next one hoping for something more than she found out with John Doe one.

Natasha Knight CMO

“I am handy with a tricorder if you need things to move a little faster Doc.” Sheleah said quietly.

  • Sheleah, CNS/DO

“I would love it,” Nat said. “Coffee?” Moving to the next patient, she looked at the body of a female that was way to young to be lying on her table dead. “Want to start the next one?” Natasha moved to the replicator waiting for a reply. She did not doubt the counselor but blood, gore, and the stench of death at times could rattle someone. Sheelah was well equipt to deal with the mental issues of situations like this but the visual and sensory issues of it did at times take more practice.

“I’m always down for some caffeine.” Sheleah said picking up a tricorder.

“There is some Neutrolene gel on the table. It is a chemical neutralizer that permanently removes all organic odors on contact. Put a little under your nose. It will take the charred scent out of your nose.”

Natasha Knight CMO

Sheleah didn’t think she wa a shrinking violet but didn’t want her theory disproven in this articular crisis situation so she did as the Doctor suggested.

The next one was a female human in her mid to late twenties, similarly dark skinned. The family resemblance to the first was uncanny. Like the first john Doe, the body had been soaking in radioactive nebula soup, and so was at least lightly irradiated. Mixed in were infrequent nadion particles. She was missing … well most of the left side of her torso, as well as her entire arm. Phaser burns sprawled along the side of her face and head. The tricorder showed the effects of partial vaporization, similar to John Doe.

injuries like this were common for intership battlefields. High energy particle weapons from a ship of the line, even a near miss could do nasty things to a person. A graze. If John and Jane were next to each other in a small space, its possible a phaser beam grazed them both in the same shot. It’s likely they were both dead before they hit vacuum.

Rei

“Wow, too young. Going to be a lot of families to inform.” she said softly while taking readings.

  • Sheleah, CNS/DO

At that moment, the lights denoting the ship was moving into Red Alert sounded, joined by the alarm Klaxon.

Captain Knight

“Oh this is going to be fun,” Natasha said looking at the lights going red. Moving to a cabinet she pulled out two pairs of magnetic boots and tossed one to Sheeleah. “Put those on,” she said slipping the boots onto her feet.

“They say Mother is the necessity of invention. So I learned this trick from a man named Nathan Harland. He was a battle surgeon. Not sure you have ever had the dilemma of performing a surgery in the middle of gravity going out or inertial dampeners losing stability but I can tell you that for the safety of the patient and yourself, these babies can make all the difference. It will also give you a massive core workout.” Moving up to the patient she began to continue her work with the autopsy. “It also stops you from face-planting a cadaver which I can tell you from experience is less fun than being thrown against a wall. “

Without missing a beat, Nat picked up her coffee and took a sip. =/\=Computer, extrapolate the amount of nadion radiation in the body on table two. Is the amount of residual radiation in line with a ship weapon or a hand held one?=/\= She hoped that her theory of getting grazed by a ship’s phaser would produce more residual more nadion than being hit my a hand held phaser.

Natasha Knight.

=^=Processing…=^=

Sheleah slipped on the boots and listened.

“Face planting a cadaver… Yeah, remind me to tell you about my first date with Max sometime.” she said while using her PaDD to check on Rex secure in her quarters. He had never been through a zero gravity situation before and she was wondering if a sedative might be advisable. Unfortunately there was no chance to give it to him so he would just have to settle for extra cuddles when this was over.

  • Sheleah, CNS/DO

The computer chewed the request over and compared notes with itself. =^=The nadion exposure is consistent with heavy weaponry such as from a vessel or vehicle.=^=

Rei

“Okay that is not good,” Natasha stated looking at Ruby. “If they were hurt by a blast that means the shields went down. So how powerful is this weapon?” The question was rhetorical to Ruby but also directed to Ruby for her input.

Natasha Knight CMO

Sheleah knew it was rhetorical but, bouncing things off colleagues in high stress situations was always helpful. Doc was a cool cucumber but Sheleah was here so why not help?

“That sounds terrible no matter what the answer is.”

  • Sheleah CNS/DO

“Okay let’s move this one into the morgue and prepare for casualties. We can look at the ones in the temporary morgue set up in the hangar but we need to be prepared for this,” she circled a finger over her head pointing generally to the red alert flashing in the sick bay.

CMO Knight

Sheleah sighed, looked up at the red alert, and down at the body.

“I’ll move this one and just tell me where to be next.”

  • Sheleah, CNS/DO

bump for GM

((Was there something I needed to respond to in this thread? Maybe I missed something? Currently the CMO and CNS are talking and working with the bodies, but there’s really nothing new to learn. All are in various states of damage from the incident, but there’s nothing particularly unique or telling at this point. it’s just the grim work of doing the examinations. But … I’m old and blind, so maybe? I’ll be happy to take a look.

Though there might be casualties soon… After all, you are under combat conditions/battle stations now.

Sam ))
