He shrugged comfortably, having considered the math involved many times “If I can perfect a universal interspecies treatment protocol, it’ll save billions of lives”

Harrison (CMO)

“And if you save just one while on board this ship, it is possible you can do the same. Our species doesn’t have the ability to see multiple realities or timelines like some do. But I’m sure you know that one person can make a difference, don’t you?” Sinclair asked somewhat pointedly. “I just don’t want to see your personal pursuit cause you to miss out on an opportunity to make another kind of impact. Does that make sense?”

Sinclair, CNS

He nodded thoughtfully, taking another sip from his glass, despite having previously rejected the idea of finishing it. It did do one wonders to occupy one’s hands. His voice was vaguely dismissive “I understand that many Doctors find a certain depth of satisfaction from saving a single life, and I certainly do appreciate being capable enough to drag someone back from the brink, but It’s not a hill I need to die on. Believe me, Commander, I do live in the here and now and when I’m on the floor, i’m 100% committed to my patients. I’ll always do what needs to be done”

Harrison (CMO)

Sinclair frowned slightly but said “I wold not doubt otherwise, Doctor. Again, I am simply trying to open new avenues of thought for you. Think of me as a road sign at an intersection, not a tour guide.”

Sinclair, CNS

He smiled appreciatively, softening his previous words “I certainly appreciate your unique viewpoint, Commander.”

Harrison (CMO)

Royal laughed. “Well, you would be the first to do so this early on, that’s for sure.” he said good-naturedly. “Most think my job is to dissect their innermost thoughts and pry their secrets from them. But as I said, I’m just here to help everyone find their own way. And to that point, Doctor, I extend to you my help and assistance as needed. If you ever need a consult, or even a confidential shoulder to beat against, I’m here. I want to help you make the most of your time here. I hope that much, at least, was clear?”

Sinclair, CNS

He laughed easily, a ready smile on his face “I certainly appreciate that, Commander. The same holds true for you, although I imagine I would be far more likely to make use of your services than vice versa. Bolians tend to take a more pragmatic view of counseling as a profession. They’re a more complex people than most give credit for. I have no aversion to psychotherapy. I even had a staff psychiatrist at my last research posting at the McCoy Institute. Her insights were fascinating. “

Harrison (CMO)

Royal smiled and said “Well, I don’t know how much insight you will need, but I am always available. And you would be surprised at the times I may need to call on you. Just a few weeks ago, we had a new arrival hurt his hand on the door after we had finished his on boarding session. Most curious.” There was a definitive indication that there was something unspoken about what he had said, but the smile remained.

Sinclair, CNS

He wondered momentarily how a man could cut his hand on a door that opened without needing to be touched, but shook the idea off. In his experience, psychology was rarely an explicable science, although it most assuredly had its uses. He stood, sending that their session was coming to an end “So what’s the verdict, Commander? Am I sane?”

Harrison (CMO)

Royal stood and said “Let’s just say ‘Fit For Duty’, and leave that question for a later date. How’s that?” with a broad smile. Extending a hand, he said “Welcome aboard. If you ever find yourself in need of a dining partner, just let me know. I find eating alone on a ship more isolating than planet-side.”

Cmdr. Sinclair, CNS

He chuckled lightly “I think I will have to take you up on that, Commander. I’ll warn you, my tastes are a little… Metropolitan…”

Harrison (CMO)
