Kavia leaned back. Internally she knew she would regret what she was about to say. Morally though she had to. One person was not a threat to this Federation of Planets. An armada from the Celestial Confederacy was. In no way was her government planning anything other than peaceful exchanges of information, however, if she was on the other side of the table, Kavia would need more than Colter’s charm to actually trust him. Deep inside she had to come clean and let the information percolate with Colter. “So when I said we were an all organic civilization I truly mean that. All our tech and weapons are organic. The reason my metabolism is so high is that we have a symbiotic relationship with several organisms on my planet. My race is the only one of the Cel Con that has this ability. So for a short period of time when we are in danger or need to defend something, we eat one of these organisms and for like the next hour or so we become....symbiotes. It’s completely harmless. I promise. They are in stasis like a butterfly. They are in that crate.”

DaVinci followed her gaze to the crate she indicated, and tried to imagine what these symbiotes looked like. “So everytime we kissed, you weren’t trying to pass one of these creepy crawlies off to me? So you could take control of me?”

“No that is your job and I am glad to hand it over,” she felt an immense rush of hormones focusing on the word kiss. That was the problem with light of your spirit. It dropped all inhibitions of the user. It took a trained intelligence officer to keep his subject on track. Leaning forward, Kavia put her elbow on the table and rested her chin in her hand. “What time is it,” she asked. If she wasn’t feeling so good she might have waited for him to respond before she did. “Because I am so looking for minute ninety-one when this thing wears off. You have no idea how hard it is sitting here answering your questions when all I want to do it tell you the most important thing you are not asking? ” Inhaling deeply she let it out slowly. “Yes a small part of me came back for the pizza and you but a small part was the pizza,” she made a small gesture with her thumb and index finger. “I really had to get that off my chest.”

He was partly serious, as something similar had happened in Starfleet once before. . .

Kavia looked at Colter with a concerned expression. “I can’t imagine how many questions you have but right now you have all the cards. I can’t lie nor have the inhibitions to do so. Ask me something you know I have lied to you about,” Kavia let out a small laugh. “I know you have enjoyed every moment with me but I also know you have the training and background to ferret out a lie. Asking me questions you already know the answers to should prove just how pliable I am right now,” she smiled and shrugged at him.

Kavia

The CIO took a step back from Kavia and began to think. “So, your heightened metabolism, is that why you were able to go five, six rounds with me? And weren’t even close to stopping?”

“Are you talking about sparing or the birds and the bees,” she smiled back at him. “If you are talking about me trying to get through you and out the door when you don’t want me leaving the answer is I am never going to get through you no matter what unless I have a whole lot of luck and a quicker draw on a weapon. You are always going to kick my butt and probably not break a sweat. I am actually just one hundred and twenty pounds of me. If you are talking birds and bees,” she leaned forward, “well in that area I am a machine,” she completed bicep curls with her arms and winked at him, “however, after round six I really did need a breather. That move you did where I was twisted to the right and you were curled up to my left,” she used her hands to demonstrate what she was describing in a three-dimensional form, “how did we do that because I am so wanting to try it again,” she waggled her eyebrows.

“I learned an ancient Korean lovemaking technique a long time ago. There are 47 steps to bring a woman to the ultimate point of passion. Most women only make to about step 5 or 6 before they can’t take anymore. I was quite surprised and pleased that you lasted to step 17. We will definitely try again.”

“Was that all natural, or did you have to chow down on a number of those critters to keep up? If that worked on humans as well, increasing stamina and endurance, you could corner the market on treating ED in men.”

“Again birds and the bees all me,” she said smiled. “I rather enjoy sex and there hasn’t been something I won’t try once. My safe word is spider monkey. I chose that after watching some movie about a guy in red and black that has an insane resemblance to your head engineer. Jarred I think I heard his name was. Anyway we have a somewhat higher metabolism than a lot of people but I have a higher drive than just about anyone I ever met because I am me,” she shrugged it off. “With the right person why wouldn’t you want to have some fun.”

“Is this how you normally gather info from new races and species you meet? Get them to fall in lo–, get to sleep with you, so they open up, implicate yourself into the society and culture, and then up and move on to the next race?”

Colter (CIO)

“No, normally it is far duller. It’s like when I met your captain. Typically we sit across from each other at a table for days and days on end. There my boss is there doing all the talking. I keep a bottle of water or other drink with me because the blah blah blah rules are enough to make you fall asleep. Since I am just a courier its boring as watching paint dry. This position was different. It was a long term assignment. Twenty years minimum. I was a one-way ticket,” she said. “Well not like I can’t go back but I can only go back once on my own,” she said sighing. I have a device,” she got up and moved to the bag she brought. Pulling out a rectangle that was the size of a phaser, she handed it to Colter. “If you press that button, the transport wave-like I came in on will activate and I have thirty seconds to send a message. The codes can be used only once so if I press it I really need to want to go back. Cel Con is scared of you,” she admitted. “Your technology is very different from ours. We have weapons but my gut says while our weapons look different we probably are at a draw if we decided to throw it down. My side is not looking for a fight. It took a lot of convincing by Boja that you were peaceful. Frankly, they didn’t see the point in coming to meet you guys but I really wanted to come here. Who wouldn’t? I mean the food is great, the adventure factor is off the hook, and I met you,” she said looking down. “Sounds kinda pathetic to use a wormhole to get a date but if the chance worked out, how great of a story it would be to tell your kids that you actually traveled the universe to find someone and not just saying that as empty words.”

Kavia

“Sometimes the longest journey’s are the most rewarding and satisfying, and well worth it.” He looked into Kavia’s eyes and could sense the depth in there as well the meanings in her answers. This no longer felt like a job, in fact, it never really had. He had enjoyed every moment he had spent with Kavia.

DaVinci grabbed the box and looked at it intently, twisting it around. Standing up he looked around the room to find the highest shelf available. sliding the box up and back as far as he could, just barely within his reach. “We don’t want to accidentally activate that thing. I kinda like having you around. In fact, when I leave, I should probably take it with me and keep it in a nice secure place.”

Kavia let out a huge laugh watching Colter. Instead of responding to him she moved to the spot where he placed it on the shelf and began to jump in an attempt to reach it. She knew the ridiculousness and futility of the gesture but when she was with Colter life was just fun. Colter made her feel like a teenager at times and not the adult she and he both were. A few more grunts and huffs as she made a desperate attempt to reach the top shelf before leaning back on the cabinet under it. “You can take it but without a chair, it is effectively out of my reach. Sometimes the best solutions in life are so simple.” Kavia watched him from across the room and let out a happy contented sigh. This was probably the dumbest move she ever did in the field yet so far Colter respected her display of honesty and had avoided topics like military strength and other governmental hot topics. It showed Kavia that the trust she placed in him was well founded. Colter was someone she could respect and trust even when she was at her weakest.

“Time is almost up, by the way. Which is a good thing, because I don’t know how much longer I can be in the same room with you and keep my hands off you. You are so damn adorable and irresistible.”

“Den my plan iz vorking,” she said in a sultry fake accent as she strutted to back to her seat with the most seductive stride she knew. Sitting down she looked up at him with a smile. “That,” she hooked a thumb backward at her past display a second ago, “was just a bit o’ intelligence humor. For the record,” she smiled up at him again getting the awestruck infatuated look she had been wearing for the past hour.

Laughing at her, DaVinci said. Yeah, I got that. Have you been watching espionage movies from the Cold War?”

He leaned in closer to her and let his lips graze past Kavia’s cheek before resting near her ear. Whispering softly, he asked, “One more question–what is the one thing you want to tell me more than anything else?”

Colter (CIO)

“I don’t like humus,” she said immediately and with a soft conviction of someone bearing the deepest darkest secret. “I know I am supposed to according to all your shows. People are all dancing around on the ads and talking about how yummy it is and how it gives you such energy because it is good for you,” she took a deep breath,” but it’s a tan tasteless mess. I have tried it roasted and with swirls and add ins but it’s still like prison rations. It gets stuck on the roof of my mouth and all I want to do is spit out the nasty tan goo ball. So far of all the foods, you have given me only that and vegan cheese makes me want to hit that emergency recall button.”

“I’ll make sure to keep vegamite off the menu as well.”

“I know I said I am from an organic society but how the heck do you squeeze one of your almonds hard enough to get milk out of it,” she looked up at him thoroughly confused hoping he did have an answer.

Kavia

With a straight face, he replied. “Actually, almond milk comes from almond colored cows. Just like chocolate and strawberry milk comes from brown and pink ones.”

His internal clock told him the 90 minutes had to be up because when she looked at him like that, the pieces of ice that had formed around his heart began to melt. That ice had developed out of necessity. As a soldier, those emotions surfacing at the wrong time could cost your life, or the lives of your squad.

In all reality, Kavia made him feel like a teenager again. Being around her made him forget some of the horrors of war he had seen and experienced. He almost felt normal, even. At least as normal as one could feel have been born four centuries earlier.

Davinci reached for Kavia and pulled her onto his lap, straddling his waist. To hell with it, he thought. If the potion hadn’t worn off yet, he was just going to have to deal with. With a smile on his lips and a gleam in his eyes, he leaned forward and and passionatey pressed his lips to hers.
