Greetings from the FComm team

Posted April 18, 2021, 11:30 p.m. by Captain Brian Richards (Fleet Commander) (Brian Richards)

Hello,

I wanted to introduce the Meridian Fleet Command team for this term and outline a little of our philosophy as well as our management style. I’m Brian Richards your FComm and our AFComm is Jenn Ward. You can reach us by our contact forms or on Discord as anything Giraffe (Brian) or Kelpie (Jenn). Jennifer and I are old hats here at STF. Jennifer joined back in 1999 and has previously been an XO, CO, AFComm, and FComm and holds a club rank of Captain. I joined September of 2009 and have been an XO, CO, and AFComm previously and now your FComm, and I hold a club rank of Captain.

FCOMM states that “…the Fleet Commander is responsible for ensuring that the Ships under his / her command are healthy and properly functioning role playing environments’‘. To fulfill that charge I see the role as Fleet Commander as a mentor to those that need it, and as the person who encourages ships to grow and succeed without seeking to put up roadblocks that would hinder or discourage those established crews. In a historical context I see this role to be the antithesis of the enlightened despot of Austria Emperor Joseph II, who was described as “Everything for the people, nothing by the people”. This position is a supporting role, designed to carry the policies when needed, but to work alongside and behind those who are in command of the ships first and foremost for the growth and stability of those ships. In other words we are here to support you not micromanage your ships.

Getting down to brass tacks, reports are due on the 5th of the month, reminders will be sent out on the 6th and if not received by the 9th will be marked as not submitted. If there are any roadblocks or issues please let us know. We’re all responsible for sending those reports and respect that life happens and things might come up. You also know your ships best, so if there is something you want to do or want to try let us know. We are here to help you navigate the STF policies.

Regarding RL vs STF our policy is that RL always comes first. Please let us know (to the best of your comfort level of course) what is going on and what we can do to help. If something is going to affect the health of your ship we will discuss the options available. We are aware that many of us use STF as a way to relax and get away from the craziness of real life as well. So keeping that in mind we don’t want this to become ‘work’ but we are here to help you keep your ships a fun environment even if you need to step away briefly.

We are always around and are here to support you or just for a chat.
Brian, FComm
Jennifer, AFComm
