The Meridian Fleet Report - January 2022

USS Brian A. Olinski

Commanding Officer: Sidney Parker

How is your ship looking overall? We are looking pretty good. I feel with the new crew there should be more action happening but its not bad, Just not as much as I expected. I get a general feel no one knows where the sim is going because it seemed like we had reached the end and then there was more. The CAG role is filled so lets see if that sparks up the Air Wing some. So lets see.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? The arrival of old crew member and former XO Shirazi Thorne back on the ship and her interactions with the CO and former CSO and now XO.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.More recruitment on my end and just a more rounded crew to include the Air Wing.

Executive Officer: Luke Hung

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Well the ship still has some significant AWOL issues. It appears to be a continuation of the holiday break. I kind of feel that since the sim was winding down to go along with the holiday break we suddenly had two factors working against posting. A sim restart should have the positive effect needed to get up back in shape.

Most of the DHs are awol or on leave, I’ll send out some emails.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?

Who is the shining star this month?

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Olinski had detected a group of Green ships attacking a Tholian ship. This Tholian ship was unlike any that Starfleet has actually seen. It was probably a new prototype carrier. After helping out the Tholians, the Breen ships decided that the Federation had declared war by entering into the battle between the Tholians and themselves. The Breed confederacy denied any involvement with the Breen ships that attacked the Tholians,. A fleet of Breen ships approached Federation space and a battle began, with the Federation and the Tholians on one side and the Breen on the other. The Breens were defeated and in handling the prisoners of war, the Olinski discovered that the individuals on board the Breen ships were Xindi reptiles in Breen disguise.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? The senior command were the biggest contributors to the sim this month.

AFComm’s Comments: The sim is moving slowly but surely. The Olinski doesn’t seem to have regained its posting speed since the holidays. Six people on the roster are currently AWOL (between 3 and 51 days) and one person is LOA. That doesn’t leave a lot of bodies to fill in the spaces needed in the sim. Those who are posting are doing well though. The FComm and I will call attention to culling the roster or changing AWOL status to iLOA.

USS Chernov

Commanding Officer: Travis Good

How is your ship looking overall? The Chernov is looking great! We have doubled our posts from December and we’re back on track. New life has been poured into our ship and it is sustained. We just need to keep it going.

In the SIM we are tangling with Romulans. We’ve just infiltrated one of rhetoric bars and scored some valuable data.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? My favorite moment is when an Ensign (at the time) and a Yowman found the time in the middle of the night to just start playing jazz music in the mess hall area. And an Ensign Vulcan came by to not only admire the music but to take the time to try to understand and appreciate it. It is very well written (minus my posts) and and absolute gem in the journey of camaraderie the endearment of emotions.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.Get a GM and more JO’s.

Executive Officer: Trinity Fister

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?We welcomed a new member to the DH team as Allison Hanna stepped up to fill the Tactical Officer (CoS) role earlier this month. Congratulations, Allison! Though many of our DHs experience life barriers that limited their involvement in Main and SideSIMs, we’ve seen increased activity toward the latter half of the month. As we kick off February, I look forward to more character-building SIMs and interactions with their respective departments!

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? This has become a habit — the good kind, I promise! — but our JO team continues to impress with their creativity and initiative. January encouraged a boost in JO involvement in the MainSIM (props to James Gray and Richard A for their hard work) and SideSIMs. We’ve seen everything from grappling with obstinate biobeds to casual check-ins to late-night confessions and the everyday question of “what should I have for lunch?” I eagerly await whatever February has in store for our junior officers and swings!

Who is the shining star this month? James Gray plays Ensign Alexander Blaze, a witty programmer who always gets the job done. I’ve been routinely impressed by James’ enthusiasm for the role, particularly in the MainSIM where his character has joined Captain Taggart in fending off a slew of Romulan assailants. We also got to learn a little more about Alexander in his interactions with outdated biobeds and sickbay staff (https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf5/chernov/posts/164071/)! It’s been a delight to write with James, and I hope to learn more about Blaze’s background and quirks in the future!

Gamemaster: No report submitted

AFComm’s Comments: The roster is full and active again, cudos to Travis and Trinity. The ship still doesn’t have a GM though. I am unsure how long it will be allowed to stay that way. The FComm is working to find a warm body to fill the slot which will make the Chernov even more successful. Otherwise, posting has definitely improved and only one DH is LOA at the moment.

USS Odin

Commanding Officer: Jerome Davis

How is your ship looking overall? Greatly improving and becoming more active after the holiday.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? The DH Meeting has been very engaging and lots of activity https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf5/odin/posts/162968/

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.JO’s being a bit more consistent, but that is even really minor.

Executive Officer: David Shotton

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?Everyone is participating in the main sim for the most part, although like many other ships things have been slow lately as we have had a bunch of LOA’s as people focus on real life for the time being.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? The Odin has no JO’s and could really do with some, also, we still have an opening for a CSO

Who is the shining star this month? Kate O’Neill, she has been posting to everything and keeping the CO busy.

Gamemaster: Kenson Koh

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Odin has been sent to Tammoron to handle an industrial dispute between the farmers of Tammoron wheat and the government of Tammoron. Reports show that there are three factions on the farmers’ side and each have their own agenda.

The Odin has just reached Tammoron and has been contacted by the Tammoron government.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward? It is early days yet for the sim to identify the biggest contributor. The crew have been active in the discussions about Tammoron and its situation.

AFComm’s Comments: The Odin has had a successful month. The roster looks good with only one AWOL. They have been moving through their sim quietly with a couple of side sims to fill out the action. It should be interesting to see how the story unfolds on Tammoron.

USS Saracen

Commanding Officer: David Shotton

How is your ship looking overall? The Saracen is ticking along, it’s been slowed by LOA’s from some key members who have been out ill recently and are still finding their way back to regular posting. As always it will pick up again, especially once our GM returns from his LOA. Our XO is down a computer and on LOA as his one is being repaired, hopefully we see him back with us when he can be.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? Our GM and his main sim. He currently has a Romulan Admiral making a power play vs the Saracen’s Captain, and neither of them seem prepared to give an inch and insist theirs is bigger. Their cause is bigger, that is.

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.I’d like to get a few more side sims going, perhaps a major side sim to fly beside the main sim.

Executive Officer: No report submitted

Gamemaster: No report submitted

AFComm’s Comments: The ship and crew are moving the sim along. A point of concern though is that the XO has not returned from his LOA. He is two weeks out from posting now, but is a reliable STFer so I feel RL must have gotten in his way. The FComm and I will keep an eye and ear out for more information on the subject and will contact him.

USS Sentinel

Commanding Officer: Matt Bongiorno

How is your ship looking overall? The ship is on point for the most part aside from my LoA due to Covid along with other LoAs due to real life issues and an AWOL. River has done a fantastic job filling in as acting CO and I look forward to returning in February at full speed!

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? My favorite moment is that the crew stepped it up this past month while I was out on my LoA. I appreciate their dedication to the Sentinel and I look forward to rejoining them this month!

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.I plan to work on increasing activity on the ship by offering side sims with the crew as we progress in the main sim.

Executive Officer: Nicole Cline

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? We’ve got a couple of LoA’s and AWOLs among the DH’s currently, and we’re working to clear AWOLs. The side sim is still slow going, but moving along. We have a couple of side sims going, but I always like to see more.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?JOs are looking good in terms of activity, like DHs I’d like to see more side simming, but we do have a few going. Main sim participation could do better as well.

Who is the shining star this month? Everyone involved with the Pranks and Jokers side sim! It’s such a great thread to read.

Gamemaster: Robert Archer

Summarize the sim plot so far as if you were providing it to a new member joining the ship: The Sentinel is plodding along oh so slowly. Its also had some issues with awols/loas and some folks leaving this past month. That said the three seperate landing parties are finally planet side and moving to investigate their respective areas, while the remaining crew on the ship debate how to check out some anomalies within the Abyssal system they are in.

Who was the biggest contributor this month to driving the sim forward?

AFComm’s Comments: As stated in the other reports, the sim has been slow going, but the players have had some RL issues to contend with. I’m sure as soon as their CO is back to full capacity, the rest of the crew will step up and get things moving.

USS Viking

Commanding Officer: Jennifer Ward

How is your ship looking overall? The Viking is looking amazing! Our sim is really moving and everyone is engaged. We have a couple just over AWOL due to real life issues, but nothing major. And despite that those people have been very active and involved with the sim. Our medical department is now full! And we are looking for one more JO in eng, sec, and sci.

What was your favorite moment/post on the ship this month (include a link if possible!)? Our guest has been severely injured and our doctors are arguing over their sworn oath to do no harm and the importance of protecting the ship from danger. Lt Semenza CMO (played by Nicole C), and En Mike Jones (played by Bob S)

https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf5/viking/posts/164442/

Name one thing you want to improve on the ship for next month.Jason and I have been brainstorming back and forth on the Viking’s identity in taking her away from the horror ship she was previously to what is she now? We are leaning toward a exploration or a patrol ship. As Jason so correctly said, the Viking is a ship that likes to take on challenges – mystery or foe. We want to put this to the crew and see if they have any further ideas, clarifications, suggestions, or insight to help solidify her identity.

Executive Officer: Jason Wolfe

How are the DHs doing? Are they all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims?January has shown to be a bit of a divided month in terms of activity and participation. We’ve dealt with a few repeat AWOL situations and several LOAs. Those that have remained active are participating in any areas that they have committed to.

How are the JOs doing? Are the all active and participating, both in the main sim and in any side sims? Most of our junior officers are doing well and are remaining active, even going so far as to set up side sims to develop their characters further.

Who is the shining star this month? William Deaton has my nomination for this month. While he hasn’t been able to participate as thoroughly as we would enjoy, he has built some very promising theories surrounding the main sim and its goings-on. We’re excited to see where this might lead him and the rest of the team. Great work, Will!

Gamemaster: No report submitted

AFComm’s Comments: The Viking looks to be in really good standing right now. The CO and XO are actively working to revise the ship’s identity. Although I do love a good horror story (sim) I understand there isn’t really a place for it in STF. I am looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

AFCOMM pretty much summed it all up. smiles We will be reaching out to each CO and seeing what other help they might need or want. So far Chernov is picking up a bit and we are looking to fill holes there and on other ships as well. Goal this month is all the ships with full Command/DH roles and at least one of each dept JO as well. smiles All comers welcome to apply hehehehe…
