Coming down the slopped tunnel the pair found the passage splitting into two at a Y junction. The left passage only went on for about 20 feet when it dead ended in ore made of up a combination of coal, copper, and nickel. A small work table was present which showed likely use over the past few weeks, some discarded children’s toys, slightly smokey, were also in evidence. There was also signs of laser based tools from racks having gone missing as well as foot prints in the dirt small though a few were slightly larger leading off back to the right hand tunnel going deeper.

“Are you reading any life signs in our immediate vicinity, Commander?” T’Pria enquired as she leaned in to better study the footprints. Then, after appearing to weigh up their dual options she nodded towards the right-hand tunnel. “I would suggest this direction.”

She took a few tentative steps into the tunnel, enough to clarify her own exploration wishes but not so many as to hinder a retreat were the XO to give reason for an alternative opinion.

“Not so far,” he said, twisting another knob on the front panel in order to make sure the scanning was still taking place. The tricorder itself continued to make a constant low-level whistling sound as they kept walking through the tunnels. He wasn’t actually sure how well these scans were working.

Because he was intensely focused on adjusting the tricorder, he didn’t really make any note of their surroundings, and decided to continue along the path that T’Pria had indicated, until he noticed the foot prints and looked away from the tricorder briefly just to check that all of them were human footprints…

– Ivo Cerny, XO/CSO

Outside the mine the CO’s landing party would remateralize after their brief stop over back aboard the ship much to the surprise of several of the NE red shirt security guards.

Meanwhile inside the mine T’Pria’s walk down the opposite path with Cerny in tow would continue to follow the small and varied foot prints in the dirt. To Cerny’s scans they were mostly human, or least humanoid in shape probably children or early teen in age scope. The path they followed took down a slope around a left corner bend before ending in a small elevator and ladder shaft. The elevator was dimly lit at the bottom of the shaft seemingly usable but also from the faint rocking having been recently used. There was the faint patter of running feet down that shaft too leading into the deeper tunnels. Scans from the tricorder squealed and beeped indicating there was at least 16 humanoid life signs below them moving away at a fast jog.

OOC: Pasting in CO’s split

As soon as they materialized, Th’elin pulled his communicator and opened it. =/\=Ivo, we’re at the Mine Entrance, we’re coming in now. Status?/=/\= He kept his voice calm and even, but was already moving into the Mine, with a quick nod to the security men. He motioned for Doc and Ovik to follow closely, not closing the comm box.

-Zarath, CO

“Humanoids,” Cerny reported as the tricorder kept whistling. “At least 16, moving away rapidly. On the lower level. Past the shaft.”

Ivo looked at the elevator and decided to push the button to call it.

– Ivo Cerny, XO/CSO

The elevator shuttered a moment, then began its slow progress up. Within a long moment the car reached their level with a loud echoing ‘ding’ followed by a primitive gender neutral computer voice of =/\= All miners, please wear your hard hats from here on out =/\= It stated. It was clearly one of those older early 23rd century computers interfaces used now for civilian service in simple roles like this.

GM CockRoach

“Primitive,” the engineering chief commented as she studied what she could see of the elevator’s mechanisms. “But functional.” Then stepping into the elevator carriage and looking around for a ‘hard hat’, she waited for the XO to join her before pushing the button to descend.
