Scans showed the Orion ship was keeping its distance, though was clearly not hiding their efforts to scan the colony or the Sentinel. They had their shields raised but so far no weapons were powered. NE Pops came over the comm to Amber’s station =/\= NE Pops here, CO is safely back aboard, on your way now..=/\= He said.

GM Cockroach

=^=Thanks Pops,=^= She said and was relieved.

Moments later, Th’elin stepped onto the bridge and headed for the center chair. “Status report, Mr. Blackwolf.” He looked around the bridge, taking in the various readouts and noises, his antennae swaying.

When the CO arrived on the bridge, Amber let out a mental sigh of relief. “Welcome back, Sir,” she said and went back to listening on her ear piece for what may be happening out there in the dark.

The helmsman slid out of the center chair and paused briefly before returning to his station. “She just appeared before I called you, Captain. Staying at her current range, just out of weapons reach. Her shields are raised, but no weapons are powered up. . . yet. She’s also scanning the surface, for what exactly? I couldn’t say.”

Back at the helm, his hands flew over the console, preparing to move at the captain’s command. “I can’t help but think how interesting it would be to beam a few of those crazed cows onto their bridge, sir.”

Black Wolf (Helm)

Th’elin chuckled at the cow comment. “Good eye, but let’s figure out just what they’re looking for. “He clapped the helmsman on the shoulder as they traded places and checked the readout on the Chair’s armrest, flipping two or three rocker switches with a loud clacking sound. Then Th’elin looked at Amber, smiling grimly. “Open a channel and hail them.” His dark eyes rested on the Viewer and the small Orion ship as it grew in size.

Amber smiled back and nodded as her own hands danced over her console. “Channel open, Sir.” She had the recordings going once more, as well, and waited to see if it was a Captain Cow, or Commander Bovine who responded. Or perhaps some intergalactic farmer wondering where his precious herd had gone.

Amber Comm

The hail went out and an audio return message came back from the Orions =/\= We are the trade vessel Spooten. We are here to pick up milk, cheese, and wine from the Deba colony.=/\= It said.

Th’elin nodded as the message came in. =/\=Orion Vessel, this is Captain Th’elin Zarath of the Federation Starship Sentinel. We are investigating an attack on the Deba Colony which resulted in what looks like the total destruction of the Colony and it’s inhabitants. I must ask that you not try to beam down to the planet. When were you last in contact with the Colony?/=/\=

From the helm, Kohana offered a ‘phhhh’ before adding, “Orions don’t trade, they take.”

CPO Black Wolf (helm)

The Captain held a hand up to quiet Wolf, but was thinking about the wording of the communication. As much as he didn’t like the idea of it, Mr. Wolf was sadly correct about most Orion contact with Federation worlds. There were honest traders, and it wasn’t unknown to find them in the sector, but it would be wise to amek duly sure before taking the vessel at it’s first word…

Amber frowned at Wolf’s comment and tapped a comment to his console. …Easy, Wolf… They can hear us like we hear them. This is the Captain’s call… If he bothered to turn around, he would see her smile and nod in reassurance she wasn’t mad, just warning him for his own sake.

Everyone had opinions about other races than their own. Many thought that way of humans as well. But she knew all races were different and one could easily believe the trade story as well as the fact it was a ruse. But till they knew otherwise, the Captain would have to make the call regardless of everyone’s personal opinions. For herself, the fact they had ‘specifics’ and not just ‘trade things’ was a bit of a plus on their end.

Comm

(Adding this in, sorry.)
Here, Zarath turned to Amber and ran a finger across his throat to kill the outgoing signal momentarily.

“Have they made any other transmissions? Were they responded to?” He also looked at the Science NE. “Full scan, I want to know if anything looks off about our friends, and prepare the tractor beam just in case.”

-Zarath, CO
