Side-Sim: Oh Captain, My Captain

Ford dropped the duffel just to the inside of the door to his quarters and looked around. “Seen one, seen ‘em all,” he said softly. Standard issue Starfleet officer quarters, though that potted plant was a nice touch. Table, chair, bed, his world for the next… however long the higher-ups wanted him here.

No point sticking around here, he thought, and exited the room, heading back to the turbolift. He grabbed the handle once inside and then gave his requested location. “Main bridge.” The travel time was quicker than he expected and soon the doors opened again, revealing the busy interior of the Sentinel’s heart.

It struck him again how small they always made this room, no matter the class, given the number of people that would be working here. A yeoman was handing an Andorian in command gold a clipboard with something on it; it wasn’t a large leap to assume this was Captain Zarath, so he approached, circling around the chair so he was just in sight and assuming a parade stance, hands clasped behind his back and waiting to be acknowledged once the captain was done.

COS Ford

“Mr. Ford.” It wasn’t a question. Th’elin signed off on the logs and handed the clipboard back to the Yeoman, then stood up and stepped off the dais to offer a hand to the new Security Chief. The Andorian was an inch shorter and twenty pounds lighter than Ford, though older by a few years. He was thin, but wiry, and solid where it counted. His coloring and hair made him look slightly frail in the harsh bridge light, but that was far from true if one knew anything about Andorians.

After looking Ford in the eye, he looked the human up and down quickly, testing the man’s grip before letting go. All the while his antennae seemed to move to and fro as if scanning the man independently of one another. One got the impression that the Andorian got meaningful information from this assessment… “You’re a fighting man, fists over phasers… I like that. We’ll get along well, I think. Have you chosen your staff?”
