IC: Paul’s frown softened and with a slight smile he uncrossed his arms. “Ah I see. Well yes I do know him because he’s me.” He said taking off his glasses and polishing them on his tunic before putting them back on. “A pleasure to meet you Max, most people just call me Doc.” He held out a hand.

Max smiled back at Hudson, not feeling as nervous as before, “The pleasure is mine, Doc,” she replied, as she shook his hand, “I am pleased to be here, out among the stars.” She looked at his glasses, and then asked, “why the glasses, Doc? Are they needed medically, or do you wear them because they look cool on you?”

Paul smiled. ”I prefer the lenses to the treatment at present as the correction is minor. However as I age I expect further issue which will prompt the treatment eventually.” He said and indicated the chair opposite his desk as he himself sat down.

“so, is this your first star ship appointment?”

“Yes, Doc,” Max replied, as she sat down in the chair indicated by the older man “fresh out of the Academy, all wide eyed and bushy tailed as my old Pa would say, and ready to do what is needed to help you help the crew to get out of any issues in one piece, or at least in mostly one piece. Here to learn from you and to mend the crew.”

Paul smiled and nodded. ”Well we can always use the excitement and eagerness.” he said honestly. ”Tell me a bit about your time at star-fleet medical. What areas did you specalise in.”

“Well Doc, some said I thrived on studying coughs and wheezes and diseases called incurable, but I think that was partly because I played Mrs Sowerberry in ‘Oliver’ during my 2nd year at the academy,” Max replied with a chuckle, “but I did enjoy studying under a visiting doctor from Andoria and another from Vulcan, I learnt quite a bit about the physiology of those two species from those two guest lecturers. Also, working with medical technology, if the crew needs to be healed, we all need to be certain that the medical tools we have to use are in correct working order. I’d rather our Engineers spend their time on ensuring the big systems are working properly, so I can ensure something like our medical tricorders and hyposprays are working as intended, while they check on biobeds/transporters, engines, shields, weapons and the like.”

Paul nodded ”Very wise, ” he said listening to her explanation.

She paused briefly, smiled again and went on. “I saw that you have received the David Dawson award for innovative medical technique, what was the technique you developed or used?” realising that might sound a bit creepy, and almost stalkish in nature, she added, “I like to read up on people, it helps me to get to know them before I meet them. I hope you don’t mind.”

He smiled. ”A long-time ago, I was almost a different person then.” he said, his expression taking on a reflective look. ”It was…is called a stitch and run procedure.” he said slowly.

“Oh that was you?” Max asked, “I errr … I must admit to fangirling a bit at the Academy, I never realised that I would ever get to … well, serve with you one day. This is truly a great honour for me, Doc.”

Was she about to hyperventilate in front of Doc, or was she just very exciteable … in any case, it seemed that her fangirling didn’t end at the Academy.

OOC: How on earth did 9 days pass between posts? - Sorry. Considers recent life, ah, that’s how … I remember looking up ‘stitch and run procedure’ online and then work - when I say I know nothing about medicine, I mean it … and obviously I know nothing about sewing either. :D
