”yes, that’s certainly true” Paul said and looked at the amber liquid in his drink. ”An old instructor at the academy once told me that people join the fleet for one of four reasons. Either, they are niaeve but genuinely want to explore more than we know, they need more space to spread out their ego, or are running from something.”
He drank and turned for the bottle to refill his glass.

Paul smirked. ”They are a sadist.” he said and turned back around. He watched Zarath ”Which are you?”

CMOThe bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt of the door “chime” sounded.
“Enter.” Th’elin authorized loudly.
Upon being bidden to enter, Ivo entered the Captain’s quarters, carrying a Padd. He walked up to the table and dropped it right onto the table. “Second shift watch report,” he said matter-of-factly.
He glanced at Doc Hudson, and then at the Captain. “So he’s…?” he asked.

… on the level? was how the not fully spoken question was supposed to end, but the pouring of and pushing of the glass communicated the answer rather clearly.
“Ivo, have a seat. I was hoping you’d come by. I think you need one of these more than I do.” The Andorian kicked a chair out from beneath the table and reached for a clean tumbler. “If you haven’t formally been introduced, He’s Doctor Hudson. Doc, my friend and first officer, Ivo Cerny.” With that, he finished pouring and pushed a glass toward the XO.

“Right, I tried to swing by Sickbay earlier but it was kind of a mad-house…” Ivo commented as he sat and immediately drank from the glass. At this point, “earlier” had been several weeks ago, before the last mission had even started…

Paul considered the man and offered a hand. “Yeah tends to get like that. What with the security drills, inoculations that people forget, accidents, bonkers bovine…you know how it is. Swing by tomorrow and ill get your outstanding physical requirement out of the way.” He smirked and raised his glass before drinking.
