Looking at the info packets on hand they had the usual info they could pull up on the data tapes.

-Sigma III Mining Consortium History and Service
-Sigma III Senior Personnel Records and Service
-Sigma III Survey Scans
-Known Stellar Traffic and Shipping Information (Past 3 months)
-Current Known Information On Sigma III Disappearances and Supposed Murders

GM CockRoach

Robert Banner listed to the information and did not offer any opinion. After all, a Petty Officer’s opinion might not be welcomed. He would have to sit back and been seen and not heard, unless, of course, someone asked him a question.

Ford flipped through the papers he’d been handed. “Computer, please display the information on the disappearances and suspected murders from the data tape. It felt like the best place to start, as the reason for their voyage after all. The rest was background that could be reviewed afterward.

COS Ford

=/\= Processing! =/\= The computer intoned.

Amber smiled as the packages of information. This was exactly what she needed. Tapping her fingers over her PaDD, she got the scanning started to find something unusual in the comms with regards to alarms and key words she had put together to see if anyone knew something was wrong before it happened.

Amber Comms

With a whir and a chug and clunk sound the computer finally pulled up the requested information. =/\= Sigma III mining colony, disappearances and possible murders suspected. Stardate 224502.03 Colonial Constable Barrack reporting. It’s been almost 3 weeks now, and I can now confirm we have lost at least 2 miners and 6 deputies of my security team, possibly more to come after investigations are complete. Disappearances began a day after when we opened shaft 13 section 13’s tunnel, we struck rich deposits of dilithium crystals as well as deep veins of gold and other precious metals. Sent a security team lead by Deputy Brans to investigate the loss and odd sounds coming from the tunnel the night before. All six never reported back in a day later. The miners in that section continue to avoid it since, reporting strange sounds and movement of shadows where there shouldnt be sources for such. Depositions by mining team 6 whole lost two of their number report that they believe it is the ghosts of some ancient race that once dwelled here. Superstitious nonsense if you ask me. Further investigation found that mining team 6’s members who vanished both had records of being drunk and/or high on duty. As well as many members of the team having issue with how wages were being split among them for the discoveries by the Consortium. My initial feeling is the 2 missing miners fell into some shaft and died, or were pushed or disposed of by their fellow miners as being loose weight. No evidence yet has surfaced though to confirm or deny this though, so no charges are being put out. Will continue a further report in a days time once I personally investigate the shaft network with my remaining deputies. Despite their superstitions on the source of this I am confident a reasonable explanation exists. End log =/\= the first part of the tape spat out.

=/\= Continue with log 2? =/\= The computer queried.

GM CockRoach

“Wait… eight people are missing, possibly dead, and he writes it off as no big deal?” Ivo commented after having been silent at the table for the entire briefing. “Good Lord… that guy right there on the tape probably did it.”

– Ivo Černý, XO/CSO

Ford’s brow furrowed as he listened to the log, taking notes. “We need more info on the timeline,” he noted. “How long after the miner’s disappearance did he send in that team? How long has been since they disappeared?” He tapped his pen on the table a few times. He didn’t like this. Too many unknowns. I don’t even know what we don’t know, he thought, before he responded to the computer’s query.

=^= Play log two. =^=

COS Ford

The computer clicked and whirred again as the second log came up. =/\= Stardate 224502.06 Colonial Constable Barrack reporting =/\= The man said sounding a bit breathless. =/\= It has been three days since my last report. In that time I lead a second team down into the mines. I got to say after this run I am beginning to wonder if there isn’t some kind of haunting or other worldly scientific explanation going on, then someone falling down the shafts or someone going off the deep end. Scans my team made along the way showed a rise in temperature and lighting sources without just cause. Energy spikes are my guess but the engineering crews assure me there are no problems with our fusion reactors and geothermal venting. I feel a fool to be saying this but each time the lights seemed to rise in level I swear on my grandmother’s grave the shadows moved on their own. I refuse to accept this though, something else must be going on and despite Administrator Lex wanting me to solve this I got a meeting setup to argue we might want to consider bringing in some Fleet folks. We may be in over our heads. Eng Log =/\= he said.

GM CockRoach

Ford rolled his eyes and sighed, pen rapidly tapping the table. “Okay, so medical won’t be needed for autopsies.” He made a note, then paused. “Maybe for toxicological and neurological scans,” he amended, writing more. He looked to Černý. “And any equipment that you think will be helpful in scanning for whatever might be causing these energy spikes.”

He turned back and pressed a button beside the monitor, the solid clack as it made contact giving him the feedback to know it was ready. =^= Show Sigma 3 Survey Scans. =^=

COS Ford

For the first time Banner spoke up, “It sounds urgent, maybe we should set course for their location now?”

PO Banner

=/\= Processing! =/\= The computer intoned.

After a moment and a few clicks and whirs of the data tapes, information came up on the screens. Survey scans showed three layers to the mining colony. The upper ‘crust’ was on the surface made up of mostly a lead and iron deposits. Most of the housing and general colony buildings were also on this level across the small airless planet. The colony as a result encased in a large dome. Layer two was mostly of rich deposits of lithium, iron, copper, gold, and low level silver deposits, all useful in construction and building concerns. This was also where much of the geothermal engineering stations were located and their support housings. Layer three was the deepest, and only recently opened up in the past year to real mining efforts as the previous logs implied. They held rich deposits of dilithium crystals, as well as other high strength ores for construction. There was also a recently dug steam pipe for the geothermal generators to get future better access to better venting supplies.

GM CockRoach

Amber shuddered. “So many people lost and now he thinks he’s in over his head.” Her murmured concern echoed that of others. “I wonder just how many multiple disappearances and deaths he’s dealt with that he felt confident after the first dozen that everything was going to be all right. It’s a closed ecosystem for pity’s sake.” Realizing she had turned a concern into a ran, she bit her lip and went back to outlining the needs and orders that were being given. “Sorry, Sir,” she murmured and tucked her head back into her work.

Amber Comms

“No, it’s a valid point, actually,” Ivo said. “That it’s a closed ecosystem. Which means everyone who has disappeared should still be there, regardless of what form that takes, because there’s simply no where else for them to go… unless…”

He looked over at Ford. “Can you put a scale on that diagram? I’m kind of curious how deep we could get with the transporter.”

– Ivo Cerny, XO/CSO

=/\= Processing =/\= The computer intoned to the request of scaling.

“Sir, would not be simpler to take a shuttle down to the surface and look for there” asked Banner?

Banner was hoping that he would get to pilot a shuttle, something he had not done a while.

Banner

OOC: I think this is what you want joe correct me if i’m wrong!

A large overlay came up on the screen. The colony 1st layer was roughly 5 miles circular around on the surface and about a mile high. The 2nd layer below the surface was a bit smaller in section at about 3 miles give or take from the tunnels explored. The third layer was a little large then the 2nd at 3 1/2 miles around the tunnels marked.

GM CockRoach

Kohana began perusing the stellar traffic reports, trying to decipher if the arrival or departure of any ship coincided with the disappearances.

“Cmdr. Cerny, I know it may be a stretch, but as of yet, they have no corpus delecti. With the space traffic around the colony, it could be possible that these missing people are merely buying their way onto the ships and leaving, especially if there is unrest among the minors. The deputies may be taking off as well, possibly to avoid the coming violence?”

“On the other hand, my people, The Sioux, are very much in tune with the spiritual world. It’s part of our upbringing. If there is something supernatural involved in the disappearances, I could be of great assistance to the investigation. I know, many people think it’s a bunch of tribal hocus-pocus, but I’m a strong believer of my people’s spirituality.”

SCPO Black Wolf (HELM)

Banner had a comment but he learned to never talk with a Chief, much less a Senior Chief, was speaking. It was that and never wash their coffee cups. There seemed to be an unwritten rule that these ideas were never violated.
