Briefing Room- Main Sim - Still too early for this crap...

Amber shuddered. “So many people lost and now he thinks he’s in over his head.” Her murmured concern echoed that of others. “I wonder just how many multiple disappearances and deaths he’s dealt with that he felt confident after the first dozen that everything was going to be all right. It’s a closed ecosystem for pity’s sake.” Realizing she had turned a concern into a ran, she bit her lip and went back to outlining the needs and orders that were being given. “Sorry, Sir,” she murmured and tucked her head back into her work.

“No, it’s a valid point, actually,” Ivo said. “That it’s a closed ecosystem. Which means everyone who has disappeared should still be there, regardless of what form that takes, because there’s simply no where else for them to go… unless…”

He looked over at Ford. “Can you put a scale on that diagram? I’m kind of curious how deep we could get with the transporter.”

– Ivo Cerny, XO/CSO

=/\= Processing =/\= The computer intoned to the request of scaling.

“Sir, would not be simpler to take a shuttle down to the surface and look for there” asked Banner?

Banner was hoping that he would get to pilot a shuttle, something he had not done a while.

A large overlay came up on the screen. The colony 1st layer was roughly 5 miles circular around on the surface and about a mile high. The 2nd layer below the surface was a bit smaller in section at about 3 miles give or take from the tunnels explored. The third layer was a little large then the 2nd at 3 1/2 miles around the tunnels marked.

Kohana began perusing the stellar traffic reports, trying to decipher if the arrival or departure of any ship coincided with the disappearances.

“Cmdr. Cerny, I know it may be a stretch, but as of yet, they have no corpus delecti. With the space traffic around the colony, it could be possible that these missing people are merely buying their way onto the ships and leaving, especially if there is unrest among the minors. The deputies may be taking off as well, possibly to avoid the coming violence?”

“On the other hand, my people, The Sioux, are very much in tune with the spiritual world. It’s part of our upbringing. If there is something supernatural involved in the disappearances, I could be of great assistance to the investigation. I know, many people think it’s a bunch of tribal hocus-pocus, but I’m a strong believer of my people’s spirituality.”

Banner had a comment but he learned to never talk with a Chief, much less a Senior Chief, was speaking. It was that and never wash their coffee cups. There seemed to be an unwritten rule that these ideas were never violated.

The idea of the missing people having gone off world gave Amber an idea. Silently she tapped out a query to see if the names of the missing people had turned up in any other location. She checked Fleet communication traffic, personal records as well as travel itineraries. One might smuggle themselves off and ‘disappear’ but this many people in this short of a time would leave a train at some point. Someone would call home, or superiors or even just book passage on another transport once they got wherever the local transports were going. She also checked the manifests of all ships leaving since the disappearances to see if the names had been logged as extra passengers. Even if trying to hide, some Captain’s kept good books.

/\= Processing! =/\= The computer dutifully intoned to the query. A few minutes later it spat out. =/\= No IDs found to queried personnel within search parameters =/\= It said.

“Was worth a shot,” he nodded to Amber. He clacked a button. =^= Display Sigma III personnel records. =^=

He sat back, folding his arms. There was less information than he’d hoped for, and starting an investigation with this little to go on was… not good, to say the least. He didn’t have a good feeling about this.

Record logs came up they outlined the pertinent major runners of the mining colony. First was the Colony Administrator Charles Barkhouse a mid-40s human male originally from Earth’s moon colony. His record was pretty run of the mill, having gotten into mining administration at a young age he quickly advanced through the ranks to become assigned to Sigma III 2 years ago, where up till recently nothing had gone wrong and production while not over the top was well above average in quality and quantity. Next up was the aforementioned Colonial Constable Steven Barrack he was a human man of western American Indian descent in his late 30s he was born in Arizona on Earth. His record was mostly mundane having served first in the local Arizona state police force on Earth from his 18th year of life till age 24, where upon his performance earned him a fast track promotion to the space service and civilian sector. He served on Mars and Io colonies till 35 years of age where he then got his break from the Sol system to be assigned to Sigma III 2 years ago as well about a month or so after Charles Barkhouse took over. Till now his tasks had mostly been patrolling and keeping order in the colony with his assorted deputies. Some reports showed he was a little heavy handed with bar room brawl break ups as well as being a bit of a heavy drinker himself when off duty but nothing that ever really got filed as being a ‘problem’. The third and final major figure was the chief mining operator Sarah Wilds a perky early 30s human woman from Pluto colony who had taken over a year ago from the last operator who had retired. In addition to her duties of coordinating mining operations and explorations she had a strong education background in geology and archaeology. One of her recent publications was on the theory that a still undiscovered race in the Sigma III sector of space had deposited now ancient ruins and technologies which if discovered and understood could open a deeper understanding of the galaxy. Of course her paper was mostly discredited given she had little factual evidence yet of such a mystery race and technology. Only hearsay and wild rumors. Otherwise Wilds record was clean, simple and to the point of her service since coming to the colony.
