SNIP

The bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt of the door “chime” sounded.

“Enter.” Th’elin authorized loudly.

Upon being bidden to enter, Ivo entered the Captain’s quarters, carrying a Padd. He walked up to the table and dropped it right onto the table. “Second shift watch report,” he said matter-of-factly.

He glanced at Doc Hudson, and then at the Captain. “So he’s…?” he asked.

– Ivo Cerny, XO/CSO

… on the level? was how the not fully spoken question was supposed to end, but the pouring of and pushing of the glass communicated the answer rather clearly.

“Ivo, have a seat. I was hoping you’d come by. I think you need one of these more than I do.” The Andorian kicked a chair out from beneath the table and reached for a clean tumbler. “If you haven’t formally been introduced, He’s Doctor Hudson. Doc, my friend and first officer, Ivo Cerny.” With that, he finished pouring and pushed a glass toward the XO.

“Right, I tried to swing by Sickbay earlier but it was kind of a mad-house…” Ivo commented as he sat and immediately drank from the glass. At this point, “earlier” had been several weeks ago, before the last mission had even started…

Paul considered the man and offered a hand. “Yeah tends to get like that. What with the security drills, inoculations that people forget, accidents, bonkers bovine…you know how it is. Swing by tomorrow and ill get your outstanding physical requirement out of the way.” He smirked and raised his glass before drinking.

Ivo shook Paul’s offered hand firmly. “Will do.”

“Don’t take offense, Doc… We older Salts don’t like being paid too much attention is all…” Th’elin chuckled, taking a drink. Th’elin wasn’t a superstitious man by any means, but there had always been reasons to accept and even perform the odd little rituals perpetrated by space-faring officers, much like ancient sailors. He didn’t believe in any of them, per se, but he understood the need to have them. People of all races and species seemed to need little rituals, even if they didn’t really need the underlying beliefs anymore.

-Zarath, CO

“He means official attention by medical men, you understand,” Ivo clarified helpfully for the doctor. “There was that time on Beta Antares IV…”

– Ivo Cerny, XO/CSO

Paul smirked as if this was not news to him. “Yeah the medical things tends to happen a lot. In my experience it’s often those who need that particular type of attention the most who are the ones who avoid it. I’ll make a note to keep a closer eye on you both in future.”

He raised his eyebrows at the second half of the executive officer’s comment. “Go on this sounds like a story I want to hear.” He added.

Doc Hudson
CMO

“Well, actually…” Ivo hesitated. “I should correct myself. I don’t think we fully did establish whether or not the lady in question was actually a commissioned or rated member of Starfleet Medical Division. The only agreed-upon detail by all witnesses was that the one-piece uniform that started in her possession was, in fact, blue in color.” He drank generously from his glass before continuing.

“Of course, you understand, I am necessarily limiting the information here to the details in the After Action Report that was assembled from the participants of this particular shore party of the Saratoga. Information sharing with the planetary authorities on Beta Antares IV was not conducted, as it was necessary for us to immediately leave the system for a classified assignment shortly after these events. And to classify said After Action Report. Which, nobody can even prove ever existed, due to a library computer failure the next day. Which… somehow seemed to… destroy any tapes that might have existed…”

Ivo’s face actually managed to convincingly express puzzlement on how that last feat was even possible.
