It was barely a day after New Year’s into 2263, January 2nd on a Monday to be precise and the crew of the new Independence class Sentinel had been in drydock on R&R for most of the past holiday season. It seems though Santa was finally getting around to their sector for the holiday missions as early in the morning at 0345 the annoying beep beep beep beep came from his nearby comm panel and boxy comm screen. On the screen the image of a young fresh from the academy NE on the ship’s bridge came up once the CO would answer, =/\= Sorry to wake you up sir, but Station Commander Bobby is on the comm for you, shall I relay it to you now? =/\= He asked.

Along with the moans and groans that accompanied him out of his bed Eli rose. =^=Put him through=^= Luckily it was one of those nights where he’d chosen to wear some form of clothing to bed, though still feeling it necessary he wrapped his gown around him and padded over to where the small viewscreen was situated. He waited for the unwelcome site that was Commander Bobby.

Once the CO had given the go ahead, the NE nodded and vanished replaced by the WAY too chipper station commander of Deep Space K-5, Commander Bobby. =/\= Ah greetings Captain!! Such a lovely morning is it not? =/\= He said in a manner probably WAY too cheery for a monday morning at 0345 at that. Clearly the man was insane or very skilled at hiding his sarcasm.

=^= I will have to take your word for it commander=^= There was a half glass of water left out from the evening before and Eli chose to take a sip, it was warm and tasted dry as water always did when it was left out to oxyginise. =^=So what gives me the pleasure of seeing your happy face this morning Commander, I hope its something impoertant.=^= Eli would not be impressed if it was another invitation to the K-5 karaoke club.

After the CO’s reply or glares the Commander smiled without a pause and continued, =/\= I got new orders for you and your ship from Commodore Daniels from HQ. HQ has decided to send you to a colony on the border regions having some troubles. =/\= He said then a beep signaled an information packet had been transferred. =/\= The information is all in there in detail for your review and staff. But in short the colony of Sigma 9, a mining operation for precious ores and metals in the Sigma system has reported there has been a series of unexplained murders and vanishings in the past week. They’ve requested Starfleet assistance to get to the bottom of things as their local security constable seems unable or equipped with his small staff to solve the problems at hand. Any questions? =/\=

The Sigma system wasn’t too far and he supposed at current the Sentinel might be the closest ship to deal with any problems. =^=No, no questions if I think of any when I’ve woken I’ll be sure to ask them. The Sentinel will be underway in an hour Commander I’ll have my operations division prepare the necessary undocking procedure while we start the ship’s engines.=^= Eli felt as if he was ready for this, he’d been itching to get underway and now the time had come he couldn’t help but feeling a little apprehensive.

Once any questions got handled the WAY too cheery Commander Bobby smiled and said =/\= Best of luck to you Captain! Keep us apprised here at DS K-5 of your progress! Commander Bobby out! =/\= he said ending the call then with a bright wide beaming smile that could blind a deer on a road.

The captain said his goodbyes to a mostly empty screen as it went blank and back to its dull grey colour. Pressing the ships internal communications given he wasn’t really appropriately dressed he said, =^=Captain here, Yeoman Rand and Lieutenant Commander Alden report to my quarters immediately.=^= She’d already seen him at his worst so being a little underdressed wouldn’t hurt anyone and he had no doubt that Roman would care either. He guessed he had at least five minutes so went about getting dressed into uniform.

One thing about Yeoman, she was notified that the CO had a message, late so she was up and already making coffee. No idea who or what it was, but she was up and ready. She yawned, threw a pillow at her brother because he got to sleep in, no he didn’t! “Hey Randy! XO was called too. Get your butt up and dressed. CO called us. Bring the Coffee!” She grabbed a mug for the Captain and stepped quickly out the door and across the hall, hit the panel and once being allowed in, she shrugged the PaDD to her hand and handed the coffee to the captain. She pulled out a stylus and found a corner to stand at attention, out of the way. “Sir, Yeoman Randy will be where with coffee in a moment.”
En Rand

One thing Eli couldn’t complain about was her extreme tardiness, “Come in” He said throwing over his tunic, he’d today opted for the wraparound shirt with the Starfleet logo pin at the bottom left. “Any sign of Roman?” He asked being a little less formal now he wasn’t broadcasting over the main ship’s intercom. He Sat down and began putting on his shoes, lacing them up carefully though he usually left them so he could just slip them on.

Roman was next through the door, already in uniform. He had been in a deep sleep and taken a moment to waken fully. And then, of course, he would never, ever leave his quarters looking less than his best. He was in uniform and ready to go, hair combed nicely. “I apologize for my tardiness, Captain. It’s a little earlier than one normally gets up,” he said, nodding a quick greeting to Rand as well.

“No it’s quite fine” He smiled, “Besides if I had it my way we’d all still be in but Starfleet have different ideas for us. I know its a little sooner than expected but we need to be moving out in an hour. We’re heading to the Sigma Sector to deal with some unexplained murders and disappearances, I expect we’ll find out more when we arrive for now Commander prepare the bridge and begin the undocking procedure, get everyone who isn’t on board and checked in with their relevant department heads, I’m sure Doc will want to update his medical records so while we’re in transit have that happen to between duty shifts.”

It was now the Yeoman’s turn to receive her orders, “Prepare any and all information you can find on the Sigma System dating back the last five years as well as the current precious ore and mineral mining facilities, bring me them when you’re done decide between the two of you who will do that and fetch mine and the commanders breakfast which we will no doubt take on the bridge, dismissed Yeoman’s” The next stage was for him and the XO alone.

He waited for them to leave, “So what do you make of it Murders and vanishing, seems a bit odd sending a whole starship. Do you think there could be more to it?” Eli was looking for Romans personal and professional opinion.
