Elijah was in his quarters throwing a ball against the bulkhead from one hand to the other as it returned, it was key to keeping his motor function skills at their peak performance, as if to make the challenge harder he began to balance on one left with on eye closed, a true test of the eye, hand and balance. He’d been doing this since his time at the academy it always helped him to centre his thoughts and with their upcoming mission, he had a lot to think about.

As the door to his quarters opened, which mean it was either Roman or his Yeoman the ball bounced off the wall and directly hitting him on the forehead before going off in a random direction and bouncing along the floor. “Who is interrupting my playtime?” He joked, rubbing his head and turning to see who had indeed interrupted him. The uniform quickly meant he identified them as his Yeoman.

Rand caught the ball as it bounced and tossed it up in the air and caught it a couple times before setting it on the table. “You are past due for your physical captain. I’ve taken the liberty of making you an appointment. You are due in sickbay in 5 minutes.” She glanced around quickly, grabbed his boots, walked over and handed them to him. Rand was not taking ‘no’ for an answer. “And before you order me to reschedule, not possible, unless you want the Doctor to report a missing medical report for the CO and the Sentinel be ordered to turn around due to a lack of certified and cleared command staff.”

“You would dare!” He said half laughing and throwing on his gold tunic, “You know Yeoman its rude not to knock” Elijah had said from day one she was free to enter whenever she needed otherwise she’d never get him out his room for the less important things such as annual medical exams. “Well, I guess I should keep a woman waiting right?” He gestured for her to lead the way.

Rand shrugged, “Not my call captain. That’s up to the medical department. And no you should not keep me waiting, so let’s go.” She went through the door first but other than that she was right by his side. He was not going to sneak away while she wasn’t looking.

Rand ignored the captain’s grumbling and kept a hand on his arm just in case. She honestly didn’t understand why the command staff had such a problem with physicals. It was rediculous. Carmichael looked healthy enough. It was inconvienent but at least it was once. She’d had 4 since she left the academy: leaving the academy, on board her transport, on K5, and then again just the day before here on Sentinel. Records took too long to transfer. “Come on captain, it will be over quickly and then a whole year before the next one.” She wasn’t above bribing him with a home made cake if it came to it.

Grumbling to himself Elijah dragged his heels on his way to the medical suite where he’d be poked, prodded and be made to do that stupid upside down walking test, he really did hate physical check-ups it was the one thing he’d hoped to not have to do as Captain but as it turns out his Yeoman had a pretty strong grip. Stepping into sickbay he looked around and noticed the ship surgeon, “Ah Ensign just the man, would you care to take me through my medical? Or just sign me off, I feel great!” He smiled.

Rand looked at the En and shook her head in apology for the captain’s bad joke. She waited in the main area but within sight if he should try to sneak out the door. It was bad enough she’d had to play child-minder when he got drunk, now she had to take him for his doctor’s appointment?

Eiros turned to face his Captain and smiled at his captain’s eagerness to escape the sickbay “O Captain My Captian! not so fast im not signing you off with doing a check-up I don’t want to lose this position surgeon or not, and not after working so hard in the academy let alone working on my English!” He said as his Finnish accent became more apparent in their conversation and Eiros quickly grabbed everything he knew he needed for the check. “Alright, Kapteeni....er Captain apologizes English is my 3rd language and more or less my most forgotten language…anyways you know the drill, the sooner you do this the sooner you can go back to whatever you were doing prior. Shall we?” He asked pointing to a nearby Biobed to run some scans.

“Well you give a convincing argument that and if I try to leave now I think my Yeoman will call security on me and that’s not a good image for any self-respecting Captain!” He moved over to the biobed and sat down and started to take off his tunic so the Surgeon could get a look at his body above his head was the ever annoying cardio test machine, he hated it with all his passion. “So where shall we start”

Eiros chuckled light at the captain, he found this quite amusing but nonetheless stayed focused “oh please captain I would have lightly sedate you before you got too far from me.” He said with a cheeky yet playful smirk across his face “and don’t worry sir I’ll just start with some scans to make sure you’re in perfect condition.” He said as he began scanning the captain before him and watched for anything out of the ordinary, he made mental notes of different things but didn’t say if anything too far off from normal ranges “so far so the good Kapteeni im just about done with the scans now.” Then sighed “apologizes sir for my lack of remembering to use English at all times…” He remarked as he kept watching the scans ever so carefully then asked “have you had any issues physically captain?”

Elijah shrugged, “Its no issue at all, the UTs struggle to pick up accents and I think it quite endearing we keep to our roots so please continue using what you feel comfortable with as long as of course, I can understand what you’re trying to tell me of course” He laughed and glad to hear he was in perfect shape, “See yeoman, fit as a fiddle you dragged me all the way down here for nothing!” He set a wink in the direction of Rand.

Rand was in the entry room but she heard him anyway. “I had no doubt captain which makes your procrastination wasted.”

Eiros grinned ” oi kapteeni, huvittele minua! But yes captain I will ensure that you understand what I have said....though I will have to occasionally mess you and you leaving hanging on what I’ve said and just let you decipher it.” He said with an amusing grin as he finished the scans, and proceeded with the check-up “alright Kapteeni you know the drill, physical therapy is next” he said as he kept his eyes on the scans. He was dreading this part himself, but he knew it needed to be done otherwise they both could be in a lot of trouble. “Let me know when you’re ready.”

Elijah stood up, “Well if I’m going to have to work up a sweat I’m not doing it in my freshly cleaned tunic the replicators can’t replicate the smell of a good fabric softener the Yeoman uses.” The Captain proceeded to undress until he was down to his socks and trousers, he was shirtless and started to flex his arms and stretching . “So cardio or muscular endurance first docitano?” He asked copying the mans accent.

From the outer room Rand could be heard laughing softly, and then calling back into the room. “I’ll be sure to pass the compliment on to Randy. The boy has a way with clothes.” Not only did Randy have his own sense of style, that was amazing if you asked Rand, he took exceptional care of his wardrobe too. And the first thing he’d done when he saw Rand working on laundry was tsk at her and snatch them away. Not that she was doing anything wrong, but he could do it better. She also got a two hour lecture on how to properly take care of her clothes, and warned her another was coming on how to take care of the captain and commander’s wardrobes as well.

Eiros kept his eyes elsewhere as his captain prepared for the rest of the check-up “ah yes Kapteeni! Cardio will be first, im sure you know the drill?” He asked facing his captain once again looking over his captain’s body noting physical aspects aside from the scans he had taken moments prior. “We will be doing cardio first then endurance next. And nice take on my accent. It can be rather difficult for others to mimic. But I like how your attempt.” He said with a much-pleased smile of appreciation before proceeding”alright Kapteeni lets get cardio done and out of the way shall we?” He asked as he finished preparing everything for the cardio portion of the check up.

Elijah begrudgingly laid with his back against the bed and raised his legs placing each foot into the Cardiovascular machine. He assumed having it upside down would mean blood wouldn’t run naturally towards his legs making it all that much more difficult. “Ok Doc, Just say when” And after a few moments Elijah began pumping his legs back and forth, with every step it seemed his legs grew heavier and more tired but continued to pump, building up a sweat as he did.

Eiros grinned as he watched the captain and his vital signs carefully making mental notes as he watched, “just another moment or two captain. It’ll be done before you know it” he said looking over at the captain watching him for a few seconds before looking at his vital signs again.

“I’ll do before I know you” he grunted pushing himself a little harder sweat now well and truly settling on every possible exposed surface of his skin, his trousers felt a little more tight or it could have been his muscles screaming out a thin her wasn’t sure. After a few more minutes of pumping his legs the machine let out several long beeps indicating the test had been finished and his legs fell to the bio be, “and doctors wonder why people avoid their medical check-ups”
