Marcus accepted the handshake and followed his new Department Head out into the armory. The Ensign chuckled to himself in response to the question, “Bit of a happy accident in all honesty Lieutenant. When I was younger, an incident involving two Starfleet officers and a phaser set on maximum stun! After several profuse apologies and a few interesting questions, I realised that I was intrigued by the kind of things Starfleet gets up to. I signed up for the Academy as soon as I was eligible and have been training in Security ever since, though I do dabble in Engineering when the need arises.”

Ford opened the locker as Marcus answered, removing one of the phasers within and a clipboard hanging on the inside door. He flipped the phaser over, reading something from the bottom and writing on the clipboard. He handed the clipboard and phaser over. “Please double check that matches the serial number on the phaser and sign for receipt,” he said. “Maximum stun? That’s never fun, for anyone. Were you the one hit?”

COS Ford

Marcus signed off on his phaser as he holstered it and continued the story with a small grin rising on his face, “Serial number checks out sir, would you believe I was the one who fired? I mistook a conversation between two officers as one of them being attacked.” At Fordham’s slightly quizzical look, Anders quickly added, “I was only 11 at the time, I’ve become a better shot with training.”

Ford paused, turning with a crooked eyebrow. “… that only leads to more question, Anders.” He hung the clipboard up as he continued. “Like whose phaser was it? And then, either how did you have a phaser at eleven or how awful were these security officers that an eleven year old managed to get a phaser off of one of them.” He shook his head.

“But never mind,” he said, shaking his head. “Do you prefer patrol or fire control duty?”

COS Ford

Anders grinned nervously, “My family are known for acting on instinct, I shall endeavour to ensure it doesn’t get the better of me while serving with you Lieutenant. May I ask, what’s fire control duty?”
