Huddled over a microscope in the ship’s bio lab stood Roman, a protective gown worn over his Star Fleet uniform and high-quality gloves protecting his hands. On the slide he studied, cells from alien plant life. It was the fifth in a long list of tasks he had been putting off doing since joining the Sentinel. Arguably one of the more fun tasks on his list, this particular sample came from a plant that was known to be highly toxic to the touch. Interesting to be sure, but the effects of the plant’s poison were so far unknown. He was looking into the chemical makeup of the toxin.

There were other things he could be doing, sure. Arguably more important things, even. But just then, he had the lab to himself, and often he preferred to work alone. Though he occasionally did not mind another officer off which to bounce ideas, today he preferred the silent focus of working alone. And when working with toxins such as this, the fewer officers in contact the better.

Soon, Roman was storing the slide for further analysis and sat down to finish up his notes on his findings.

Randy had been hunting for the XO for a while, and unlike his sister didn’t have everyone’s patterns memorized so he hunted and hunted. He was nearing the end of his rope when he entered the lab, saw the XO, and muttered under his breath “ar mhaithe le Dia” He straightened his posture and strode up to the man hunched over the bench. Tapping on his shoulder Randy said in a saccharine sweet tone. “We need to finish your onboarding Sir, if you’ll please?” He said motioning to the door.

Randy, Yeoman

It was almost as if Randy hadn’t entered all, as Roman did not look up, nor react in any way. When his shoulder was tapped, without looking away from his work, he said, “I have things more important to do than stand around awaiting onboarding procedures.” He aimed for firm, but not unnecessarily rude with his tone, knowing Randy was just doing his job… whether Roman liked it or not.

Randy heard the tone and bristled a little bit, he hasn’t expected his pampered officer to be so prickly. This assignment would be just wonderful wouldn’t it? Randy closed his eyes slowly and opened them with a controlled but irritated tone “Well alright then Sir, I’ll mark off that you have refused your on boarding and to have medical disqualify you from service onboard. Thank you for your time sir.” Randy pulled out his stylus and started filling in lines on his PaDD.

Randy, Yeoman

This caught Roman’s attention quite swiftly. “No need for hasty action,” he said quickly, trying look at Randy’s PaDD. “Are they requesting my presence this instant?” He asked, his voice tight with annoyance, though now his demeanor seemed… more polite, somehow.

The sly smile forming at the edge of Randy’s lips had to be fought back as he looked up at the XO and said, “No sir you specifically requested their time. I made sure to get a slot where no one else was round so you would be able to get in and out as quickly as you can pass the test. Now I’m not in the habit of just bothering you for no reason although if you’d like I certainly can start.” He pulled the PaDD up gently, just at the angle that Roman’s eyes wouldn’t be able to easily see what was being displayed. He nodded and motioned to the door saying, “I do respect that you are in the middle of an experiment, I’m sure I can buy you say 5 minutes to wrap up and have you meet me there?”

Randy, Annoyance

Had he requested the time? He didn’t remember. But the yeoman had clearly made sure it was no matter. “No, no thank you, Yeoman.” He said as he stood abruptly, irritated by the reangling of the PaDD. “No matter. I had nearly wrapped up anyway, and if I have an appointed time, I do hate to be late.” At least Randy appeared to know him fairly well. If it wasn’t busy while they were there, surely he could get it over with in no time, right?

Randy’s approach worked and he hoped this wasn’t the start of how the two men would work together in the future but if push came to shove Randy now knew how to push the XO’s buttons just enough to get him to do what needed to be done. Now strictly speaking Randy hadn’t been perfectly forthcoming as Roman hadn’t expressly stated that he requested a time or a place, but Randy was really twisting the onboarding memo from the command staff to the crew that had stated ‘All crew members must report for onboarding procedures by 1700 hours Wednesday.’ Randy took this to mean ‘requesting the time of medical to perform them’ and then another leap let Randy tell the XO that the man had ‘requested their time’. So if Roman wanted to dig into his brain and question Randy he would be perfectly in his rights to, but Randy was hopeful that it wouldn’t come to that.

“Of course sir, you have the last appointment of the day and I do believe that you’ll be able to return to your experiments shortly.” Randy remarked as he turned and strolled out of the labs hoping that Roman would be close behind.

Randy, Twisting the XO’s Arm

Roman was behind Randy, following at an even, if apprehensive, pace. He felt no need to pick at Randy’s story, for while he generally was a stickler about keeping appointments he was aware things could slip his mind, as happened to anybody.

After the two had arrived at the sickbay, Roman notified one of the staff he was there for the medical evaluation.

OOC: bump :)

Eiros looked over finishing up some stuff and spoke “Ah give me just a moment ill be able to help you.” He said quickly finishing up whatever he was doing and went over to them “I take it your here for an appointment? If so follow me and I’ll take care of it.” He started and walked them over to one of the biobeds getting what he thought was necessary. “Really quick how are you currently feeling? Any recent ailments?” He asked grabbing what he needed to run scans.

Ensign Eiros Konstantinovna -Surgeon

Roman regarded the Ensign with something resembling disdain, through no fault of Eiros. The Lieutenant Commander just absolutely did not want to be there, and the ‘appointment’ was… a frustrating topic. However, Randy’s threat ringing in his ears, he followed Eiros toward the biobed, and, if any action could be ‘grumpy’, it was Roman taking a seat upon the biobed. “I am fine, Ensign,” he said, his tone… tight, but amicable. “I have not been ill any time recently.” He said, eyeing Randy as he gave Eiros his answers.

Randy rolled his eyes and resumed his smile as he looked at the doctor. “The good XO here was just doing some detailed and delicate experiments, I’d assume if he was feeling healthy enough for that, than this should go smoothly.”

Eiros nodded and began to run scans “well I will say this as of now. I would prefer not to have this grumpy attitude aimed at me, please. Being grumpy about a 15-30 minutes appointment will not do you any good and it will only make the struggle to not bite your head more prominent sir.” He said in a tone that was still friendly but had some seriousness behind it ” the scans say your fine, is there anything. And I mean anything, that has felt off at all? “

Ensign Eiros Konstantinovna -Surgeon

Looking at Eiros, Randy smiled and winked, “Oh don’t you worry Doc, that grumpy attitude and tone are all for me. And I’m pretty sure the only thing that’s felt off is the nagging of a rather handsome yeoman that looks smashing in these boots. Now I’m going to take my leave so I can get that stack of paperwork ready for you to sign Commander. Till then.” Randy said as he breathed a sigh of relief and hoped that the candor was going to be at least chuckled at as opposed to earn Randy a reprimand.

Randy, Yeoman

At least his paperwork were ready to sign, even if Randy chose to be particularly annoying that day. Roman would deal with that later. Apparently, Eiros’ backbone had earned him some respect from Roman, for his next answer was much more polite. “Nothing’s been off. I’m not one to fall ill,” he replied. Whether he’d be back when something was wrong was debatable, but it was a debate for another time.

Eiros took quick note in his head that he had some mild respect from the lieutenant commander before him, Eiros was definitely the type to stand up against someone when they had this mood floating around them like a bubble. “Very well, you physically look fine the scans say your fine.” He said double checking the scans one more time just to be extra safe.”your good to go I see nothing wrong sir.”

Ensign Eiros Konstantinovna -Surgeon

“I am cleared for duty, then?” He said, standing. It was confirmed in his mind that this was a waste of time - and that meant every med check up would probably be a battle. “Er, thank you, Ensign…?” He said, meaning for Eiros to give his name.

~ Lt Cmdr Alden, XO/CSO

Eiros nodded “yep clear for duty sir. And my name is Eiros Konstantinovna sir. I know interesting name. People struggle to pronounce it. But enough about my name I’m sure you have better things to do then be here yes?” He questioned as he put his supplies back neatly.

Ensign Eiros Konstantinovna -Surgeon

“Ensign Konstantinovna, then. That isn’t so difficult.” Roman replied, shrugging. “That I do, there’s work to be done.” There seemed to always be work to be done.
