Once the away team had responded She then moved over to the side of the generator and too out a sonic screwdriver. She then took off a few panels so she could see the internals of the Generator. Cleolet always liked to do a visual inspection, after all being a Caitian she had better eyesight then almost all other humanoid species. She was looking for any corrosion, rusting or and burn marks that might indicate some sort of power surge or environmental factor that was causing the issues.

Ensign Cleolet (Engineer)

Visual inspection of the solar collectors showed they were in good shape, no signs of rust, corrosion, or burns were evident. Scans though picked up a low level electrical pulse signature on each collector. It was faint, likely a residual emission from whatever caused outages before. The scan uplink to the Sentinel’s computer databanks soon returned the following result.

In this case the closest match was a particle emission known as Telisium Bursts, a rare particle emission known to Federation science that occured in areas of electrical flux. Usually these were on planets which held a high methane and ammonia atmosphere. To find it here was highly unusual to say the least given the colony did not meet any of those conditions, nor did the mines. The emissions in short would act like a low level EMP, though only interfering with device operations and not fully shutting down/shorting them out. Another report from the data banks showed Starfleet Intel suspected Orion Raiders were experimenting with such bursts artificially to cause havoc on possible target systems but such reports showed a ship had to be present and an easily detectable particle pulse stream would bathe the area. Again no such thing was in evidence nor reported for the colony or mine. Especially given the earlier mining audio logs reported ‘moving shadows’ and some kind of ruins in the mines.

Cleolet put the panels back and looked at the scan results “This is odd. It seems like the machinery has been exposed to a Telisium burst. But that’s almost impossible in these circumstances.” she said rubbing her chin as she thought. Then a thought hit her.

“What was this planet like before the colony? Was it terraformed? and was their any signs of older life?” she asked. If there was any sign of older life or if the planet met the parameters it could be that pockets of air where stored from before the colony. Then the sudden release created the power issues Of course this was a nutty notion but so was finding the results she had.

Ensign Cleolet (Engineer)

Their guide NE turned to regard Cleolet. “..Yeah it was terraformed, it was barely a class-m world to start out about 90 odd years ago and over time resources got here to progressively terraform it. Until the mines unearthed those ruins the Administrator mentioned to you we had no signs of alien life old or not beyond the dumb animal and bug life here..” He said.

A few minutes later too, a sealed pair of bags containing all weather protection gear came down released in a transport beam.

Rand walked over to the bags and opened them pulling out sets of the gear. All weather gear and rebreathers for the mines. She walked over to Alden, “Cmdr Alden” and she handed him a set. “Lt Fordham” and gave him a set as well. Cleolet was busy so she quietly placed a set down next to the engineering officer. She handed the two NE security officers each a set. “Anderson,” and she handed him a set as well. She pulled out the last set for herself.

Ford watched over the crew as they put on the wet-weather gear, rifle aimed out into dim light of the colony. He thought back to doing the same thing countless times in his teenage years at the Boston Youth Military School. He mentally shook himself from his reverie, waiting until they were all dressed before donning his own. “Can they be shielded from these bursts, Ensign?” he asked Cleolet. “Either physically or with a force field?”

Cleolet thought for a moment as she put her gear on “A force field would probably not work as it would just get drained to. However we could potentially shield the equipment with three layers of thick aluminium. But to shield all systems would take a lot of work and a lot of aluminium. An almost prohibitive amount” she said simply “but I would need to analyse few other pieces of equipment first before i draw any conclusion. I need to corollate all the data and run a few tests. To see if it would in fact work” she added

He turned back to the NE guide. “What other equipment had issues at the same time as these collectors?” Narrowing down the direction and potentially the reach of the burst could help pinpoint its origin.

Their NE colonist escort turned to Ford, “..You name it, its had some kind of problem since the trouble in the mines developed.” He said with a shrug.

Cleolet had a thought “What the furthest away piece of equipment form the mines?” she asked

Ensign Cleolet (Engineer)

Ford glared at the distinct lack of an answer to his question, but settled back some as Cleolet asked her own. It could potentially answer the question he’d asked, though not directly. Ford hated skirting answers like that, intentional or not.
