“You,” she said to Randal, “in there, get up on the biobed, we’ll get to you shortly.

Randy raised an eyebrow before shrugging and saying to Rand, “Looks like we’re in a no-nonsense medical facility.” He looked back at the nurse and saluted, “Yes Ma’am”

Doing as he was told, Randy made his way in and hopped up on the bio bed, kicking his legs back and forth like a young boy might.

“Well then, what have we here?” asked a voice, and then the curtain was drawn, cutting Randy off from the rest of sickbay. The voice belonged to a crewmember with a shaved head and so many lines on her body it seemed that some of her lines had lines of their own. She was also almost nothing more than skin and bones. Like the younger members of the crew, she was dressed in the miniskirt, but she looked very uncomfortable in it.

She looked Randy up and down, and said, “well, I’m waiting for you young whippersnapper. I don’t have all day. The days I have left to serve are likely shorter than the length of this skirt I’m forced to wear. Your name? Your rank? Once upon a time, I probably looked good in a mini, but nowadays, not so much. Eyes up here, young man, not down there.”

It was probably just as good for Randy she had a medical tricorder at hand and not a stick …

Randy was delighted. Old folks were fantastic and she had an attitude that was positively fantastic! “Randal Farquharson, Ensign, and ma’am I don’t care how you think you look, but I have to say you look smashing. You just need to feel comfortable with yourself. I mean look at me, if I can make the mini look good, honey there is no reason you need to be uncomfortable.” Randy had no idea if she was going to accept his praise or not but he smirked, “Need me to just lie here or are we doing any active participation with this?”

Rand couldn’t fake confusion, well she could, she’d even be convincing to everyone else near by, but the doctor had been there and they both knew she was aware of what he was talking about. She had learned a long time ago to not offer information. He didn’t ask what had happened, or for details, simply did she feel better. Usually her anxiety was only made worse by trying to play out scenarios and what ifs in her head. So instead she made the effort to breath calmly and simply answer what was put to her. Otherwise she started talking and giving more information than people wanted and giving herself a panic attack instead. And he was a doctor, so even if he did ask and she told him he wasn’t allowed to talk about it. Unless of course he thought it affected her duties, but it didn’t, she wasn’t on duty that night, well she was, but wasn’t and her record, although short, she’d just graduated the academy. He wouldn’t think her unfit because she was too young plus this would he? She’d worked too hard to get there, no he couldn’t do that, her service was exemplary. And now she was doing the ‘what if’ thing. If Randy could see her he would tell her, ‘Tha e gu bhith ceart gu leòr, anail.’ And so she reminded her self and nodded at the doctor. “I am.” Simple, direct, and honest.

Paul watched her quietly a moment. “I’m glad to hear it, “ he said cheerfully and stood to watch the vitals being displayed on the bio beds readout panel a moment. “So you got a thing about all Doctors or did I just scare you the other day?”

Doc Hudson

Rand looked at him confused. The night in the observation lounge she hadn’t even noticed him until Randy had made her sit down because she’d gotten dizzy and light headed. “Nei…Neither. I have no problems with doctors nor did you scare me, Doctor. I rather like doctors.”
Yeoman Rand

Paul smiled. “Well that’s good to hear.” He smiled. “I’d hate to think you wouldn’t want to come visit with us if you needed medical assistance.” He produced a hand held scanning probe from his medical tricorder. “Do you mind?”

Doc Hudson

“Don’t worry, Doctor. I have no desire to suffer in silence if I am injured or sick. Both would be quite the hinderence to being able to do my job. And I don’t think my brother would let me get away with it either.” Rand smiled slightly nodding towards the other exam area where her brother was flirting with the older nurse. “On no, of course not. Please,” she waved absently at the scanning probe and the sat still taking deep breaths.

Paul began the scan moving the device around the young woman as she sat. “Well that’s good to hear at least. So anything to report from your last exam?”

Doc Hudson

Rand thought about it. Her last exam was when she’d arrived at K3 to await the Sentinel’s arrival. She shook her head, “No, Doctor. Unless you count stubbing my toe on a hull support beam that I didn’t step over completely.” Rand wasn’t accident prone but things happened and she’d failed to lift her foot high enough to step over the thing. It was just one of those things that could happen to anyone. “My last exam was when I arrived on K3 and before that right before I boarded my transport to get to K3. I’m usually pretty healthy. I try not to cause problems for medical.”

Paul nodded and called up that information on the PaDD. “People aren’t problems for medical my dear. “ he said absently. “Medical services are there to assist people whenever they need them. And we are happy to help” he gave her a smile.

Doc Hudson

Rand nodded, “I will be sure to remember that. And I have no desire to suffer in silence so you will be seeing me if anything happens or I get sick.” She waited quietly for the doctor to tell her what he needed her to do. She didn’t mind whatever it was. Some people hated the physicals but she honestly didn’t mind them.

Bump

Paul stepped back. “Thank you for your time Yeoman.” He smiled and offered a hand to help her down from the bio bed
