Having finally settled in and met with his Department head Karl finally made his way to the Sentinel’s medical bay. He’d learned that the Chief medical officer was one of the few people on board older than himself, this information was a comfort. The last Medical Chief he had was some young cocky recent graduate of the Academy, he preferred experienced doctors over self-proclaimed savants of the field. He walked in and looked around for an available doctor.

Bunp

“Dammit” a grouchy voice declared nearby. On the floor A pair of uniform clad legs stuck out from one of the biobeds. It sparked and the voice said. “Yowch.” Before the screen above the bed flickered back to life. The voice grumbled darkly under the device and stiffly the owner of both legs and voice began to get to their feet.

“Prefer to do your own maintenance, sir?” Karl asked with a half-smile. He didn’t know many doctors with the talent to repair their own equipment sufficiently well. It seems this man at least had some capabilities in that regard.

SCPO Karl - Eng

Reaching for a cloth to wipe his hands Paul gave a small chuckle. “Not particularly, but it went out and I didn’t want to bother anyone while they were getting their feet under them on this new ship. Besides the blasted thing should work correctly considering it’s brand new. Loose connection, should be fine but if it goes again you can bet I’ll be giving you lot a call.” He put the cloth down on a table and rubbed his palms together.

“But I assume you didn’t come down to sickbay to talk about my skills as a handy man. What can I do you for?”

Doc Hudson

Karl gave the doctor a half-smile “You would be right, I’m here for my medical evaluation. Karl Jóhansson, Senior Chief Petty Officer” He introduced himself.

SCPO Karl - Eng

Paul held out a hand in offer to shake. “Paul Hudson. Chief medical officer. Most call me Doc.” He indicated the bed he had just been under. “Grab a seat well get you taken care of.”

Doc Hudson

Karl shook the man’s hand firmly before sitting down on the indicated bed “Pleased to you Doc” He said simply.

Paul procured a medial tricorder probe and began calibrating the scanning panel. “How you liking the ship so far?” He asked as he waited for the scanner to work and then began running the probe over the engineers abdomen to get some base readings.

Karl smiled “She’s a beauty, my last posting was on a Cardenas class, more nacelles but not as big. She had a more quiet hum to her, this one sounds like a satisfied bumblebee when you walk the corridors” He said looking around the room, going from device to access panel, scanning it for potential repairs necessary. His scans showed a healthy male in his late thirties. There were several partially healed burn marks on his chest and back, probable results of engineering accidents all that fit with his medical records. Other than that he had a few minor cuts and scratches on his knees and elbows most likely garnered from crawling through ducts on a less than clean vessel in the last few weeks.

SCPO Karl - Eng

“You crawl through the ducts to get here son?” Paul asked, good naturedly as he ran the more in-depth scan. “I’d rather no buzzing if I’m honest.” He muttered looking at the readings.

Karl chuckled at his question if a little drily “More or less, my old ship couldn’t drop me off at the outpost so I caught a ride with a cargo hauler, thing was barely operational so I spent most of the last few days crawling around fixing more problems than I’ve seen on an individual starship, when it finally docked I had to run across the station because of transporter issues. It’s been an interesting time to say the least.” The more in-depth scans showed no further damage than a few scrapes, the wounds had been cleaned regularly but nothing else.

Paul made a sound like hmmm as he finished the scans. “In that case I’ll update your shots before you go.” He said and moved to find the hypo.

“You’re good.” He said as he held the hypo up to look at it then pressed it to Karl’s arm. “Try to not get yourself into trouble.”

Karl jumped of the bed and nodded “I never try to find trouble, sir” He said with a smile “I was just never good at avoiding it. Thank you” He said with another nod and turned to leave.

Paul raised a hand in farewell and began tidying up the area.
