The long crawl up the short pylons for the Independence class was thankfully not as long as it could have been. Finally coming up and out onto the maintenance room for the nacelle they humming and heat of the warp reaction was evident, were it not for the forcefields about them outside this work area they would be fried to a crisp easily. Thankfully they did not have far to go the source of the drain seemed evident. Wrapped around a plasma flow regulation tube that lead to the first junction of the far larger warp coils inside the nacelle was.....something.
Something in this case was a golden bulbous jelly formed blob it was pulsating in time with the warp reactions and it seems it had melted its way through a small crack in the nacelle at some point recently by an acidic compound. It was clearly drawing energy from the warp reactions which was why there were power losses throughout the ship at random intervals, its ‘feeding’ for lack of a term was intermittent it seems.

Karl for a moment just stared at the… blob? Jelly? Thing? he wasn’t sure how to categorize it. He went flat to allow the security officer a look at the creature “Look at that little beauty” He said as he got on his elbows and removed his scanner, making sure not to put it too close to the thing, he didn’t want to get close to anything that could eat through the Nacelle unless he had to “Could you grab your communicator and call the Bridge, I think they should know about this” He told Marcus, his tone turning a little serious as he scanned the thing.

Scans of the blob found it was indeed some kind of life form, it had a circulatory system, nervous system, etc but was beyond a thing outer layer made up of some kind of acid like gel. Whether it was intelligent was anyone’s guess at this point. It was feeding off the warp plasma though with each pulse it grew in size by .03%
