Rand was in her office, well closet, finalizing the transfer reports, both on and off. =o=En Rand, Admiral Gruver wants you to know Cpt Rogers is arriving in 10.=o= Rand grabbed her ever-present PaDD. The one she modified with a strap to allow her to use both hands when needed. =o=Thank you chief=o= Getting up she headed out the door at a steady jog and flipped open or communicator from her belt. =c=Rand to Alden. Sir, Cpt Roger’s arrival is immanent. Transporter room 1.=c= Rand appeared next to the Admiral as if by magic. One moment he was waiting as the chief paged her and the next she was there. She came to a crisp strict attention beside him.

=c=Thanks for the warning, Yeoman, on my way=c= Came Alden’s prompt reply.

The Sentinel’s transporter hummed to life as it’s new Captain rematerialized on the pad after several seconds of waiting for the matter transfer to complete. Transporter technology had continued to improve over the past few decades and the most recent change had been the removal of lateral vector transporters due to the significant amount of power consumption they require to operate. The new transporters on the Sentinel were considered the latest and greatest of transporter technology per Starfleet Command. Shirley, now whole again, stood there on the pad for a moment. She wore her standard issue Starfleet top dyed in command gold with a loose collar and the Starfleet insignia with the command emblem across the left side of her chest. Her new golden ranking stripes were embroidered on the cuffs of each sleeve. Typically women wore skirts as part of their uniform norm. However, Shirley wore black slacks along with brand new standard boots. Her communicator was clipped firmly on her belt by her left hip. Her dark brown hair was tied in a tight bun, her skin was just lightly tanned, and her eyes were emerald green as they darted to meet Admiral Gruver’s after she briefly adjusted to her new surroundings after the transport was complete.

The Admiral appeared to be in his mid fifties as he greeted her, “Captain Rogers, Welcome to the USS Sentinel.” Shirley nodded once and a slight smile came across her face, “Thank you sir.” She then approached the Admiral who was standing next to a younger woman whose rank denoted that she was an Ensign. It must have been his Yeoman. Shirley looked up at the Admiral and tilted her head just slightly, “I love this transporter room and the fact that the Sentinel was equipped with the new models for our five year mission. It will be nice to save a bit of power here and there.”

Rand was wearing a gold skirt uniform with ensign stripes on the cuffs and knee high black boots. Pinned to her right shoulder in the form of a rose fold was a tartan sash and then down her back tucked into her belt. Clipped to her belt was her communicator and a strap crossed her body holding her PaDD.

The Admiral remained calm and stoic in his response to her comment, “This ship has plenty more state of the art upgrades compared to what you are used to Shirley and I have Ensign Farquharson here to provide you with a tour of the ship.” She then turned to face the Ensign in front of her, “Ensign Farquharson, I am Captain Shirley Rogers.” Shirly extended her hand offering it to Rand for a firm handshake, “I am all ready for the tour of the Sentinel. Are you?”

  • Captain Shirley Rogers, CO

OOC: Crew please feel free to interact throughout Shirley’s the tour of the ship with Rand. It will be a nice way to meet the Captain for the first time if you so desire!
- Matt

Rand held out her hand and shook it firmly. “Cpt. Rogers welcome to the Sentinel.” She lifted the PaDD and offered it to the new Cpt. along with the stylus. “Just a moment Cpt. If you would, sign here and here. The first is acceptance of your command codes and the second is recipet for your access keys.” Rand held up a computer disk and then a set of round keyed rods in sequence.

After completing her handshake Shirley accepted the PADD & stylus from Rand and quickly read over her command codes. After a few moments, she signed the dotted line and accepted her new access keys from Rand. Full control of the Sentinel was now transferred to her. A slight smile came across her face as she handed the PaDD back to Rand, “That makes things official Ensign.”

“We will end in the cargo bay where the crew is awaiting the official transition ceremony. What would you like to see first captain?” Rand asked turning towards the door after the paperwork was dispensed with.

Yeoman Rand

Shirley replied instantly, “Lets head to the bridge first Ensign. I want to get a feel for where I will be working every day for the next five years.” She also had the urge to test out her chair and hoped that it would fit like a glove. No one likes to sit in an uncomfortable chair for their entire duty shift without any doubt.

Several minutes later, Alden arrived in the transporter room. Tall, and with an athletic build, he was quite recognizable. His Starfleet uniform, a blue shirt with two golden ringlets, a pair of black slacks, and high end black loafers, was spotless, without a wrinkle to be seen. His hair was carefully and precisely combed back, giving him an overall well put together appearance. He stood with perfect posture, one could balance a book upon his head. He carried an air of confidence. He had read the file Rand sent him about the Captain, and he knew the new Captain’s name, and anything else he had cared to read.

However, he had glossed over one important detail. The Captain’s gender.

As he approached Rand, the Captain, and the Admiral, he turned to the Admiral, assuming Shirley was instead the replacement for Randy, who had quit on him to become a nurse. That was quite irritating to him. As annoying as Randy was, he couldn’t always borrow Rand from the Captain. He turned to the Admiral and said, “You must be Captain Rogers. I am Lieutenant Commander Alden, the Sentinel’s first officer and Chief of Science.”

Rand turned her head slightly to look at Alden as he addressed the admiral. The Admiral was stepping towards the pad to leave and obviously had admiral stripes on his sleeves. The woman, Cpt Rogers, had captain stripes on her sleeve. Rand cleared her throat discreetly but noticeably meeting Alden’s gaze. Rand’s face momentarily showed shock and concern. It wasn’t like Alden to make such a mistake. She had spent a lot of time with him and he was meticulous to detail. Didn’t he read the report she brought him? She shook her head ‘No’ to indicate his mistake.

Yeoman Rand

He caught her gaze, and noticed his mistake. Turning, he directed his attention instead to the woman, the real Captain Rogers, and hoped his mistake went unnoticed. He had read the report, however, he’d been so busy, he really only skimmed it. Roman noted he’d have to thank Rand later - especially if the Captain didn’t notice.

The Admiral grinned in response to Alden’s comment, “I am not the Captain.” He then gestured to Shirley, “This is your Captain. Have you forgotten where rank insignia is located Commander?” He then turned to Shirley, “I have to head back to command to address a more pressing matter. I will provide you with your upcoming mission plan tomorrow, make sure that you get acquainted and comfortable with your ship today.” He then briskly stepped onto the transporter pad, “Good luck Captain Rogers. Try to keep the Sentinel in one piece, do not get to impulsive now.”

Mistakes were not in Roman’s nature. Then again, neither was showing how he felt. Internally, he was giving himself the biggest face palm known to this side of the galaxy. Externally, he remained stoic and cool. “Apologies, sir. I have not forgotten them, sir. I merely… misspoke.” He reied to the Admiral. With one more quick glance to Rand he turned to the real Rogers and said, “Welcome aboard, Captain.”

The transporter chief glanced down at the console. “Ah, looks like we have another incoming crewmember. Sorry Admiral, you’ll have to wait a moment longer. Energizing…”

The matter stream activated, and when it had completed there stood a young woman, shaking her head slightly. Starting at the top, she had a head of bushy black hair that was just barely contained in a ponytail, big brown eyes, and a wide, confident smile. She wore a gold uniform with the Sentinel’s insignia on the breast and no stripes on the arms, signifying her as an Ensign. Just like the Captain, she’d gone for the black pants and boots instead of the skirts typical to women in Starfleet. “Wow, I’ve stepped into a real party, haven’t I?” she exclaimed in a cheerful voice, hopping off the transporter PaDD and giving the Admiral a playful salute. “Sir,” she bowed slightly at the waist, then stepped past him and looked at other three officers in the room. “Ensign Quinn Dagget. I’m your new Helmsman, Sir,” she spoke, looking at the Captain with a playful shine in her eyes.

She turned slightly to examine Alden and Rand, tilting her head slightly. “Nice to meet you all!”

Ens. Dagget, Helm

The Admiral nodded to Ensign Dagget and then glanced at the transporter chief, “Energize.” The transporter hummed to life once again and after a few moments, the Admiral was gone. Here she thought that she would be getting a full tour of the ship with him like other Captain’s do, but instead he left her alone to figure everything out on her own. There would be no special treatment for her as per the usual. Shirley was used to that coming up in the ranks and said sarcastically to an empty transporter padd, “Aye sir, good to see you to. That was an insightful chat.”

Rand nodded politely to the senior officers, giving them respect as was due, but then she knew them or at least knew their records and knew they deserved it. She would never be flippant, she’d pass out of embarrassment if she tried.. She walked over, “Ah yes, En Dagget, if you would.” She pulled her PaDD held out a form, “Please sign here. For records to confirm you have arrived.” Then several pieces of paper were passed to her. “Contains your duty roster, your quarters, and a map of the ship showing where everything is. You have an appt with Lt Cmdr Alden, our first officer, at 1300 later today. You have a meeting at 0900 tomorrow with Cpt Rogers. We are about to tour the ship if you would like to join us, or I can find someone to show you around privately.”

Yeoman Rand (I’ve got this)

Shirley’s eyes darted to Alden and then to Dagget, “I would love to have my number one and helmsmen join us for the tour. Lets get a move on though, I have plenty to accomplish today before we embark on our five year mission.” Her vocal tone hinted for Rand to begin the tour now.

  • Captain Shirly Rogers, CO

Alden stood calmly and quietly, still internally living down his earlier mistake. “Of course, I would be delighted to join you, ma’am”, he replied, remaining as formal as possible. Addressing Rand he said, “You’re the pro when it comes to giving tours, I’m sure you won’t let the new Captain down, Ensign.”
