Alwyn comes out of the turbo-lift. Checking his blue shirt, he walked through a corridor to where the Sickbay should be. Reading the signs on the wall, he quickly noticed the one stamped: ‘Sickbay’. My new workplace I guess, he thought with a smile. Can’t wait to discover it! I just hope my DH isn’t too harsh…

He opened the Sickbay’s doors and saw the room just like the one he imagined. He was in the examination room, which contains two beds on a side of the wall, and on the other side was laying some medical stuff on a table: an electronic microscope, a tricorder, a few hyposprays…

Alwyn waited in the room for someone to come meet him. I hope they remember my check-up…

“Doctor?”

A horse, languid grunt disrupted the cacophony of thoughts that plagued her mind. Haadok lifted her gaze and nodded.

“Nurse… Balakin.” She pushed the PaDD away and, with it, mounds of tedious paperwork. “What can I do for you?”

“I caught wind of a new arrival. One Doctor Alwyn Yarwood?” They jabbed an unsure thumb at the abyss behind them. “He’s in the exam room.”

“I see.” Haadok scoured her mind for any recollection of his file. Ah, yes. The surgeon. “Thank you, nurse.” She braced her palms against the table and pushed herself to a stand. “I imagine you’re off shift?”

“Yep!” They stifled another yawn. “Just finished, but I figured I’d stop by an let ya know before I left.”

“Understood,” Haadok hummed in her approach, “rest well.”

She lingered until Balakin’s figure disappeared around the bend, then made a beeline for the examination room. Alwyn wasn’t difficult to spot amid the sea of equipment and otherwise barren space. Nodding, she lifted a hand to snag the doctor’s attention.

“Doctor Yarwood?” She inquired, though it came out in a monotonous hum. “I’m Doctor Haadok, Sentinel‘s head physician.”

— Haadok, D.O.

Seeing a Vulcan woman approaching him, he presents himself: “Ah, yes! Alwyn Yarwood. You can call me Alwyn, sir.” The ensign was a bit nervous meeting his direct superior. It’s the first time I see a Vulcan!, he thought, having a quick look at her ears. They’re really pointy!

Haadok’s lips parted in the makings of a habitual retort, but she refrained. What is he looking at? Soft, fleeting wrinkles gathered between her eyebrows. Have I unnerved him already?

“I am here for my report-ears in-… uh, I-I mean my reporting in.” He noticed someone behind the doctor but was too far to identify it.

Nerves. Haadok stifled a sigh.

“I’m pleased to have you aboard, Doctor. If you’ll have a seat…” she lifted a scarred hand to the nearest biobed, “…we can complete your physical while we chat.”

Haadok meandered to the bedside cabinet to gather a few supplies. “I understand it’s a remarkably stale question,” she continued, “but tell me about yourself.”

— Haadok, D.O.

While he sat, Alwyn said: “Oh, uh… Myself? Well, I’m from Cardiff, England. Do you know the place? It’s really beautiful in Spring!” And while he talked, he realized he was talking to a Vulcan, who probably never put a toe in England. “I mean… You may don’t know it…”
