As CSO, scouting out the planets for the ones most likely to contain useable resources should be an easy task, and he wasn’t worried. He figured this would be a quick, cut and dry mission.

Surprisingly as Alden started reading his notes. Cleolet entered the conference room. Straitening her red dress as she walked in, she has just finished some maintenance when the call came through. A crawl through some Jeffries tubes and giving her tool kit to an NE she was at the conference room in moments a padd screen in hand.

“Morning sir. How have things been?” she aske respectfully but friendly.

Lieut j.g Cleolet (CE)

“Morning, Lieutenant. Just waiting on the others,” Romam said.

Just then the door opened and in walked the captain’s yeoman carrying a tray of drinks: an assemblage of the senior staff’s preferred drinks. As well as a stack of PaDDs. Setting the tray down, Rand proceeded to set a PaDD at each chair specific for each department head. The PaDDs contained information already sent to each of their work stations in their various departments. The information contained the general mission objective and specific department orders that Cpt. Rogers had tasked Lt Cmdr Alden with reviewing with the senior staff (OOC see links below for each department). Then removing the drinks from the tray she placed them on the table as well. Rand picked up the tray and turned to Alden. “Is there anything else you require, Sir?” Sometimes they wanted her to stay and take notes, other times they didn’t need her.

Yeoman Rand

Haadok slid into the conference room moments after Yeoman Rand. Instinctively, her gaze wandered about the room before her feet managed to redirect her attention to finding her seat. She eventually sat down and tugged the PaDD close enough to read. “Good morning,” she offered a curt albeit polite nod to those gathered.

— Haadok, D.O.

“Morning,” said Roman to Haadok. “Just one we’re waiting on, then.” He said, “I may as well at least explain your presence here at this early hour. We’ve been issued our mission, to study a nebula known as the Abyss. Each of your departments will have orders on what exactly you should be studying.” He began, hoping Lieutenant Anders arrived before long.

<snipped previous ooc chatter>

OOC: I’m going to push this meeting so the sim can move forward.

IC:
“The Medical department,” he began, “will be preparing for any emergencies of any kind. There is the potential to find new life out here, we should be as prepared as we can be. Security will be preparing for any potential threats and reviewing the Prime Directive and first contact protocols.” Roman paused, checking the notes from the Captain before continuing. “We can’t allow any mistakes that would lead to an incident. Engineering, you’ll be preparing the ship for anything the abyss could send our way. Study all potential effects of the nebula on the Sentinel. My own science team will be studying the planet’s and searching for those most likely to host intelligent life. We’ll also be looking for resources beneficial to Starfleet.” He checked his notes one last time, to be sure nothing had been left out. “If you have any questions, now would be the time to ask.”

Marcus sat up, “What do you think the chances are of us needing to be combat ready, Commander?” Anders was confident in his team of course, but wanted to give them every chance he could to hone their skills, “I know First Contact missions aren’t known for that sort of thing, but you can never be too careful.”

“I can’t give a realistic estimate, however, I suggest you train as if we were expecting it. I would rather hope for the best and be prepared for the worst,” Roman replied. He loved first contacts and if they did meet someone out there, he’d always prefer a peaceful meeting but should they be violent like Klingons or something, the ship had to be ready.

Shirley entered the conference room, paused for a moment, and looked over her Department Heads for the first time as a smile spread across her face, “Good morning everyone or middle of the night. Starfleet never sleeps, trust me.” She walked briskly to her chair and sat down clasping her hands together on the table. Her emerald green eyes shifted from person to person as she communicated her message for the team, her expression shifted to neutral, “I am your new Captain Shirley Rogers and I look forward to our upcoming missions together. However, Starfleet Command has us moving early this morning, so I will skip the formalities due to the lack of time. I want each of you to review your PADDs as they carry your individual departments instructions to execute prior to arriving at the Abyss within about a week from now. Feel free to meet with Commander Alden or I throughout the week if you run into any issues or have questions. For now, I need each of you to report to your stations and be ready for our departure within one hour.”

She made direct eye-contact Alden, “I did not mean to steal your thunder, we just have to get rolling.” She patted his shoulder, “Number One and bridge crew, you are with me. For the rest of you, I need you to get posted in your Departments. Time to get the Sentinel undocked and on it’s way. ” She then stood up, one could see her sense of urgency as she exited the conference room door and walked briskly in the direction of the turbolift. It was time for the Sentinel to begin it’s journey. Once at the turbolift, she waited for her Department Heads that worked on the bridge to join her. After everyone was aboard the turbolift Shirley looked straight forward and spoke with firmness in her voice, “Bridge.”

  • Captain Shirley Rogers, CO

Anders nodded politely to the Captain and followed her into the turbolift. Having had a few training missions on the Bridge, Marcus was excited to get back to the tactical position again; he was pleased to admit that he had high hopes for the new members of his Security team.
