The small shuttlecraft banked to port as it came in on approach to the Sentinel’s shuttle bay. As it slowly and carefully made its way inside, the shuttle’s only passenger looked out the viewscreen past the pilot. He had said barely ten words in the almost twenty hours that he had been in the shuttle. Then was no different, although he did give the pilot a look and a small nod. Stooped almost double, the obsidian-skinned human dressed in the gold uniform of Command picked up a large bag made of some kind of animal hide and stood waiting for the hatch in the side of the shuttle to open. As it did, he stepped out and stood up straight.

He was an imposing figure at over two meters tall and very solidly built. Muscles rippled under the uniform top as he moved. His head was shaved and his skin as black as the space the Sentinel currently traveled through. Dark reddish-brown eyes peered from a handsome face that seemed to be in a perpetual scowl. He surveyed the area and then began walking towards the door.

The man was huge and built and towered over her. And that’s probably why he walked right past her where she stood waiting for the newest officer to disembark. Rand stood at 5‘8”, average, but small compared to this man. She was young, barely a year out of the Academy, but to have already made ‘captain’s yeoman’ was beyond impressive. Her long red hair was pinned into a neat and regulation approved bun, her gold uniform crisp and her boots shinned. Her stride made a clean crisp staccato across the bay floor as she caught up with him, not quite jogging, but close in order to meet his longer stride, but it didn’t seem to phase her. Rand was a cross country runner, with the build, tone, and endurance to go with it. “Lieutenant Mthunzi Nkosenye, welcome to Sentinel. Ensign Rand Farquharson, Captain’s Yeoman. If you would sign here, indicating you’ve arrived and are aware you’ve been assigned to the ship.” She passed him a PaDD with a stylus. Some paper work was so infuriatingly pointless, but it wasn’t her job to question why they had it, just to get it filled out.

Nkosenye stopped and looked down. Wordlessly, he took the PaDD and signed as indicated and handed her back the instruments.

She reached into her pocket and pulled out a grey data disk. “Cpt Rogers asked me to give you that, and invited you to meet with her over dinner at 1700 hours. Your onboarding physical is scheduled for 0700 tomorrow morning. Your quarters are on Deck 4 port aft, 431. And if you like I’ve been instructed to give you the complete ship’s tour.”

Yeoman Rand

He inspected the disk a moment before sliding it into his pocket. “My quarters will need modification for additional power draw and a direct communications feed from the relay on the bridge. The specifications are here and approved by Command Engineering.” and he offered her a data disk of his own. His voice was deep and resonating, and with a heavy accent that fortunately did not hinder his intelligibility. “I also wish to inspect three crates that are waiting for me. Is that possible now, Ensign?”

Rand took the disk, slid it into the reader on the thicker forward end of the PaDD and pulled the appropriate form up. She passed the PaDD back, “If you will just make sure it’s correct and initial, I’ll have the request sent to engineering immediately.” She walked with him out of the shuttle bay and around to lift 3. “Of course, Lt. This way. Cargo bays are on deck 6, primary cargo bay extends to deck 5.” She paused at a comm pannel, =O=Chief Gorvak this is Yeoman Rand. Lt Nkosenye needs to inspect his cargo crates, three of them. Where are they located?=O=

=O=Lower primary cargo bay. I’ll bring them out and meet you there.=O=

=O=Thank you chief=O= Rand stepped onto the lift and grabbed a handle and turned it, “Deck 6.” and the lift started to move. Stepping off the lift Rand turned to starboard and moved down the corridor past two larger doors and then through the third. She looked around, spotting Chief Gorvak and moved towards him.

Yeoman Rand

As the Chief came forward, Nkosenye stepped towards him and held up a hand,. He didn’t say anything, he just looked at the seals on the crates and then nodded before looking at the Chief. “Please ensure these are sent to my quarters immediately. Thank you.” He turned and looked down at Rand. “If we can go to my quarters so I may drop off my bag. Then we can do the requested tour, Ensign.”
