It was a week later, and the Sentinel finally dropped out of warp on the edge of the massive nebula known as The Aybss. already their sensor capacity was cut by half even from out here due to the inference. Warp travel could do doable but it would mean a slow going at lower warp speeds. Beyond the rich nebula gases about them, there was nothing else obvious about. Though in a strange superstious way the wisps of the massive nebula seemed to almost reach out as if to try to grab the Sentinel and draw it in. That was silly of course nothing like that could happen right?

E’usah glanced over at Quinn, they shared the same shifts on the bridge. She carefully checked their position on the nav computer and made a few adjustments to the main display screen. The Abyss awaited them out there, she looked at the main display, it was huge and somehow seemed menacing on a subliminal level. She wrapped her tail across her lower legs, and half turned to the Captain, “Ma’am, we’ve arrived. Current position is just on the edge of the nebula.” E’usah looked nervously over at Quinn sitting at the helm station.

Shirley provided E’usah with a slight nod of her head once in acknowledgement of her navigator’s indication of their arrive. Her eyes darted to the viewscreen as she focused on it for a few moments. The Nebula was a massive expanse that looked gorgeous in overall appearance. She definitely had looked forward to their arrival all week to begin charting an unknown are of space. Shirley rose to her feet, pivoted off of her back heel, and in an effort to face Roman directly, “Number one, scan the area to see if there are any planets in the nearby vicinity.” She shifted her feet back once again in direction of the viewscreen and said with a firm tone of voice, “Ensign E’usah, begin charting the Abyss based off of Number One’s findings here so that we will know our way around and Ensign Dagget, keep the Sentinel just past the edge of the nebula for the time being.” Shirley sat back down in her seat and pressed the ship wide communications button, “Crew, we have arrived at the Abyss, all departments remain on standby for their orders. Lieutenant Haadok and Lieutenant Cleolet report to the bridge.”

  • Captain Shirley Rogers, CO

Cleolet heard the call and head for the bridge. She didn’t know what the captian wanted to see her about but she knew it was obviously important. the captain wouldn’t take her away from engineering if it wasn’t necessary. Moments later Cleolet appeared on the bridge and went over to the captain “Reporting as ordered” she said respectfully.

With a curt nod, Roman took his place at the bridge’s science station and began the scan for planet’s, looking for anything within the scanner’s range.

E’usah turned to her console and tapped in present location and coordinates and set the nav-computer to begin plotting their movements within the nebula, this information would also be available to the cartography section. She turned to the XO, “Commander, we’re all set to begin.”

Rand appeared on the bridge taking up a position to the side of the lift, out of the way. There was nothing for her to do at the moment, but to be on hand if needed. It wasn’t time for coffee or reports. And coms were working so she wasn’t having to run messages back and forth.

Scans began, and for the first hour or so of their work things were quiet. The wisps of the outer edge of the Abyss kept swirling about, as if reaching out to grab the ship, but it just was an effect of the stellar winds nothing more. The wisps were soon shunted out of the way of the ship by the deflector array. As the Sentinel continued on a lazy course parrelling the outer edges, a beep soon came up on the Science console signaling a result!

About what seemed half a light year deep into the Abyss from their current location a system’s outline was picked up. What seemed a four, maybe five planetary system in fact. Details were of course sketchy but the following could be made out. 1) The innermost two planets were likely based on stellar drift small in size and likely lacking any form of real atmosphere. 2) the third planet seemed a bit bigger, maybe about 2-3 times that of Earth, but the scan results coming back did paint a picture of a possible class m world, there was also indication of a possible lunar body in its orbit, 3) the forth planet was for sure a large gas giant, maybe a little bigger then Jupiter, even from this distance storms could be picked up through its stellar body also picked up were a smattering of smaller bodies which could be either ships, or moons, it was impossible to tell from here. 4) scan were sketchy if not outright impossible to confirm if there WAS a fifth planet, one or two minutes it seemed there was one, then the next it wasnt. If there was one there then it seemed also class m with a lunar body, almost a twin of the third planet it seemed. If it wasnt there then something it seems that they couldnt pick up was mirroring the effect of the third planet somehow. How was an impossibility to say. Whether there was any life in this system intelligent or otherwise was impossible to say.

“Captain, there is a small system coming into view,” Roman said as the scans began to pick up the outline. He spent another several minutes checking the scans. “Four… maybe five planets, hard to tell. The first two don’t appear likely to have an atmosphere. The third is a possible class M, larger than earth. Might have a moon, as well.” He sounded excited at the prospect of a possible class M. “And the last planet is a gas giant.” He peered at the scanner for another few minutes. “There might be a fifth, but it’s impossible to tell from this distance, it’s barely reading.”

~ Lt Cmdr Alden, XO/CSO

E’usah checked the Nav console and made sure all the scans were being downloaded to Stellar Cartography for mapping. “Captain, Cdr., the fifth planet is just beyond reliable sensor range, a minor course correction would bring us close enough for a reliable scan in about 20 minutes.” Eusah hoped she wasn’t overstepping her bounds, but it was her job to plot and correct their course to effect the greatest results from their mission and scans.

E’usah -NAV (Slightly nervous in the new job)
