Diagnostics across all systems came back in the green, they were as good to go as they could be in that regard. As for nebula activity the biggest problem which did not have much of a solution was their sensor range would be drastically limited, and shields non-operative.

After two hours Cleolet headed into her office and went over her findings, the warp core was in good Knick, as it should be and she had managed to rejig the damage control teams. All she wanted was to make sure they crews had an extra body, but rejiging all her engineers to make sure everyone had a job and there where enough people to cover everything was a pain. she had also used the time to do some of her own research

When she was ready she called ch’Sirhc and Karl to her office.

Lieut j.g. Cleolet (CE)

Kovan entered the CE’s office, PaDD in hand and ready to give his report. “Ma’am I have the list you’ve requested but in summary our greatest concern is our lack of shields. While in the nebula they’ll be non-operative and without them any number of space debris and gases can come in contact with our ship. We’ll have to be vigilant as our sensors will be greatly reduced. We will have little to no warning for any kind of threats. From experience I know it’s best we stay proactive. There is are no minor issues when traveling through a nebula. Any small problem can spiral out of control or compound into a larger, more devastating issue.

“I have created a check-list for engineering. Listing damages and issues by priority and how to prevent or counteract them.” He offered his PaDD to Cleolet. Kovan used his two hours well, and used every second researching and composing his list. Even if he couldn’t remain in engineering due to his duty as a communications officer, at least the department could still benefit from his experience.

Karl, who had joined the younger Andorian, nodded at his report “Everything is in the green currently, the largest issues are as he says, no shields and limited sensors.” He said with a half-smile “Without the shields, a focus on the hull polarization system is essential for defence purposes” He added.

Cleolet listeredn to he two officers and nodded “Take a seat you two” she said gesturing to the chairs infront of her desk.

“Its a good thing we have the extra from the old transporter becasue Polarizing the hull will take a fair amount of power, that will have to be a priority.” she sad ass he read through Siehc’s padd “I was thinking about the sensor issues and i had an idea. What if we convert a few probes to become sensor boosters. it might not give us much of a boost but it would be better then nothing. ” she said looking at the two people in front of her “Like the ancient earth gadget, to boost… what was it called. Wifi, wifi had a short range but humans used booster to increase that range. Do you think it would be doable?” she asked her officers, she wanted to get there input.

Lieut j.g Cleolet (CE)

The idea had merit, but it would only work as long as they were within range of the probes, afterall non of their probes had warp capability so once they got beyond a light year or two of the probes range they would loose their boost.

Karl considered “I suppose it could work so long as we modify the Probes to work within the nebula. Although we would have to recall them after each time they are launched and I suppose some modifications might be required on the sensor array. We should also run the numbers to see how many would be required to form a proper sensor net.”

“I agree, the probes could be used to boost the signal, however, they may be more practical as an emergency option.” Kovan added, “For an immediate boost to our sensors when needed. The probes are also susceptible to damage from the nebula. Each time we recall one it will have to be examined, repaired and tested before launched again. Which will eat time and manpower I believe are better spent in other areas.”

Ensign ch’Sirhc (COMMO, ENGR)

Depending how complex they wanted to get with their boosting net, a minimum of 4-6 probes should suffice for a region the size of most solar systems, beyond this though their ability to boost or amplify would drop off terribly making them all but a waste past that point.

Karl went quiet for a moment, doing the Math in his head then shook his head “I don’t quite agree with you there lad, if the mission is to Map the area then the extra scanning range will allow for more detailed records but I do agree that it may not be necessary all the time. A small team of three or four could go over each probe in a matter of minutes, assigning the deck two maintenance crew this task with an additional engineer or two won’t be that much of a drain” He frowned at the floor “The Idea has merit if used wherever we actually need the extra sensor data”
