There was one thing for certain as Ensign Thalia Wächter stepped onto the USS Sentinel for the first time: She was pretty nervous. And considering it was her first ship assignment since graduating from the Academy a year ago, she had every right to be nervous. But Thalia tried her best not to let it show because there’s a saying in her home country of Germany: Man muss die Dinge nehmen, wie sie kommen. This translates to “You have to take things the way they come.” Yeah, being nervous on the first day is perfectly normal. You just can’t let those nerves hold you back. So Thalia took a deep breath and started looking for the CoS’s office.

Problem was she couldn’t find a map nearby. So she found a fellow crewmmate walking down the hall and got their attention. “Entschuldigung-” she stopped herself, realizing that she was still in German mode from spending time with her father before she left. “Excuse me, do you know where I can find a map around here? I’m trying to find the Chief of Security’s office. It’s my first day,” she said. They pointed towards the opposite wall where a map could be found. “Right over there,” they said. “Can’t believe I missed that. Thank you,” Thalia said as she consulted the map before taking the nearest turbolift to Deck 5.

Having finally reached the CoS’s office, Thalia took a deep breath before stepping through the door, standing at attention and saluting as her father advised her to do. “Ensign Thalia Wächter reporting for duty,” she said.

In front of Thalia sat a man, tapping his finger on a computer on his desk; when the young woman announced herself, he looked up with a warm smile and said: “Ahh, good morning Ensign.... Wachter, isn’t it?” He stood, revealing the full extent of his medium build and slicked back auburn hair; extending a hand, Marcus added, “Have a seat, can I get you anything?”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

Thalia gave a smile of her own before accepting Lieutenant Anders’s handshake. “Yes, Thalia Wächter. If it makes it any easier for you, my last name is pronounced the same way as the English word “vector”. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Lieutenant,” she paused as she took a seat across from him. “And I would love a cup of chamomile tea. It would help ease the nerves a bit,” she said.

Marcus smiled, “I’ll make note of that. No need to be nervous lass,” he walked over to the food replicator and ordered a strong cappuchino coffee and the chamomile tea. Bringing them back on a tray, he set them down and returned to his seat, “So, tell me Thalia, what brings you to the Security division of Starfleet?”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

Thalia took a deep breath, attempting to center herself before speaking. “To put it simply, I want to protect the people that I serve alongside as best as I possibly can. I realize that there can be a lot of pressure that comes with this line of work, but I believe I’m up to the task. My father has served in the German military, so I’ve learned a lot from him when it comes to martial arts, sword fighting, and general hand-to-hand combat. I’m also very competent with a phaser,” she paused for a second, knowing that there was more she needed to say. “But in my opinion, Security isn’t just about protecting the crew, combat, and throwing enemies in the brig. The biggest piece of advice that my father gave me before I left was to get to know as many of the crew as I possibly can. But more importantly, show the crew that I’m someone they can trust with their lives. Someone they can talk to about anything, as well. I’m a really good listener, and I feel like I can put that to good use on this ship,” she said.

Marcus’ smile broadened, “You’re an officer after my own heart lass. Your skills will no doubt come in handy over the course of your tenure on the Sentinel. Would you be willing to help me teach your fellow officers in some of your skills?”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

Thalia eagerly nodded. “It would be my honor, Sir. Plus it’ll give me an opportunity to get to know my crewmates,” she said.

Marc smiled and made a note on the clipboard in front of him, “Enthusiam is something I’ve always liked in a Security team Ensign,” he said as he scribbled an extra reminder to book in training for the Security staff, “So, tell me, where do you see your career heading while on board the Sentinel?”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

Thalia honestly had never thought about that before. “To be perfectly honest with you, I don’t really have a set career goal in mind at the moment. I literally graduated from the Academy last year, and I know I still have a lot to learn. So if I have one goal, I guess it would be to learn as much as I can and just enjoy my time on the Sentinel in the process,” she said.

“A noble goal if I ever heard one lass,” Marcus replied with a grin; then standing he extended a hand, “Well, since your clearly so keen, I suppose I’d better show you where to find your gear? If you’re still interested of course?” He winked good naturedly.

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

Thalia nodded, standing with him. “If I wasn’t still interested, I wouldn’t still be here. Lead the way,” she said.

Bump

OOC: We are going to finish this thread, aren’t we, Kieron?

Yvonne

OOC: My sincere apologies Yvonne, I thought I’d already replied to this.

Marcus clasped his new crewman by the hand with a grin and said, “That’s the spirit lass, follow me.” Gesturing for her to head out of the door behind him, Anders led Wachter down a corridor towards the Sentinel‘s armory. Several officers offered polite nods to the new recruit, one even giving a small wink and adding to Anders, “The ship is definitely in safe hands now, Lieutenant, I can feel it.”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

Thalia blushed a little at the attention she was receiving from her fellow officers. “Well, it certainly hasn’t taken long for you to earn the respect of the crew, Sir,” she said.

Marcus chuckled, “It’s what happens when you’re on a ship of this size Ensign, you become a family unit.” They reached the door to the armory several minutes later, Anders gesturing to Wachter to walk ahead of him. When she crossed the threshold, Wachter saw what appeared to be an office space, several lockers with Security team members’ names etched onto the metal, “Your locker is the furthest on the right. Feel free to pick up your gear and then I’ll tell you about an average day in the wonderful world of Security.” He winked.

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

Thalia nodded as she went over to her locker before rejoining her commanding officer.

Marcus smiled like a proud father as Thalia crossed back over to the door, “You look like a model officer Ensign, do you have any questions for me?”

-Lieutenant Jr. Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

Thalia returned Lt. Anders’s smile. “You mentioned telling me about the average day of a Security officer. What is it like?” she asked.

Ensign Thalia Wächter, Security

“Down to brass tacks it is then.” Marcus grinned and tapped a board behind the two officers. The screen showed a list of the officers under Anders’ command, as well as a time for which they needed to report for duty, “We’ll get you a patrol slot, I’ll get you a shadow officer to follow you around for your first one, unless you feel like you can handle it?”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

Thalia pondered on it for a moment. “I’ll take a shadow officer, if it isn’t too much trouble. Better safe than sorry,” she said.

Ensign Thalia Wächter, Security

Marcus smiled warmly, “No problems at all lass, in fact I can probably get the two of you introduced right now.” He crossed to the communications panel in his office and made a quiet call to another officer. Within five minutes, a stocky male walked into the room and grinned at Anders, “Ye called Lieutenant?”
The chief smiled, “Ahh, punctual as always Ensign McNiel.” He gestured to Thalia, “Allow me to introduce Ensign Thalia Wachter, the newest member of our little Security family.”
McNiel winked at Wachter and extended a hand, “Just call me Paul, we’ll need to be on a first name basis once we’re defending the ship.” He grinned cheekily.

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security (And Ensign Paul McNiel xD)-

Thalia smiled as she shook Paul’s hand. “In that case, you may call me Thalia. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Paul,” she said.

Ensign Thalia Wächter, Security

Paul grinned at both officers; then addressing Anders, he said, “I can already tell she’s keen, Lieutenant.”
Anders returned the smile and said, “Well Thalia, I think you’re all set. Report back here at 0900 tomorrow for your first patrol with Paul. Dismissed Ensign.”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security- (Also Ensign McNiel)

Thalia gave a salute to both the Lt. and Paul. “Aye, Sir. See you around,” she said as she left the office.
