“From 2005. There were several adaptations before and after, but this one is my favorite.” After he set the screen up, she leaned against him, eventually curling up, feet tucked up underneath her, head on his shoulder, while they watched.

Rand

Roman chuckled lightly. “That’s an old one.” Then, he hit play and sat on the bed, feet over the side. When Rand settled in against him he put his arm around her.

A couple times Roman could hear Rand quietly speaking the lines. It wasn’t the sound of someone simply repeating favorite lines. This was like having Elizabeth Bennet right beside him. The fierceness, attitude, pride, and sass. And the ‘Received Pronunciation’ accent of Hertfordshire. After a couple times, she seemed to realize what she was doing and she grew quiet, possibly frustrated with herself or a little sad.

Roman heard her quietly speaking the lines. It reminded him of the day he overheard her in the lab, and he got the feeling it was a part she’d played in the past. A little after she stopped, he looked down at her and tightened his arm around her just a little, to comfort her.

Two hours and a few minutes later, the credits were rolling and Roman turned and smiled at her. “That was a good movie. It followed the book fairly well.”

~ Roman

She couldn’t help but smile back. “That’s why I like it. The book was so well written, the story stands on its own without embellishment for production. And after all these centuries the themes still hold true.” The movie was over but she made no effort to move, but stayed where she was.

Rand

“That is what makes a classic, a classic, if you ask me. The ability to be relevant regardless of the time it’s read in.” Roman agreed with her, the movie did not require the… changes, most newer adaptations made. He could remember one in particular, made about twenty years ago, where they changed the story to take place aboard a space ship. He didn’t seem to want to move either, but he did ask, “Do you want to watch another, or..?”

~ Roman

Rand nodded, she’d seen a proposal for a remake of Romeo and Juliet using Andorians and Vulcans. It was so baaaad, and offensive. Luckily it had never made it past the proposal stage.

She started to tell him he could pick the next one, but then…’Or. Or what?’ Was she supposed to know what he was suggesting because Rand really had no clue. Was the ‘or’ preferable to staying and watching another movie? Was the ‘or’ his preference? Was she supposed to prefer whatever ‘or’ was? Was he trying to hint that he was ready for her to leave? What was ‘or’???? “Or what?”

Rand

Roman had to smile. “Or is there something you’d rather do?” Just sit and talk maybe, or study more, or go to the gym, or.. pick another movie. Or kiss again. That would also be a good answer. He might’ve been hoping for that one. But really, he’d do anything with her.

~ Roman

Rand shook her head, “No, there isn’t anything else I’d rather do than stay here. Is there something else you want to do?” She was quite happy to stay right there and watch another movie. He looked like he was thinking about kissing her, but he didn’t, so maybe she was wrong. “Do…do you want to pick another movie?” But Rand wasn’t moving to let him have room to move. She was enjoying sitting there with his arm around her.

Rand

Rand looked like she was expecting something, but then she asked about movies. “The guys in security keep recommending me the James Bond movies,” he said, but he didn’t seem all that interested. She wasn’t giving him space to get up and grab the PaDD, either. She was comfortable against him, his arm around her shoulders. “Or we could just stay here, forget the movie.” He offered instead, smiling again.

~ Roman

“I wouldn’t mind doing that,” but shouldn’t they be doing something? Another movie would be okay if that’s what he wanted. Then she blinked and leaned her head back to look at him, “Wait…you were talking to ‘the guys in security’ about movies?”

Rand

The credits had ended by then and the PaDD’s screen had gone black. “I wouldn’t, either.” Roman grinned one of his playful grins. “They seem to think I should do more for fun.” Like most people he knew, giving unsolicited opinions on what he should do with his off duty time.

~ Roman

Roman was chatting with the security guys. They thought he should do more for fun. They sounded like Scott…Rand began to laugh, quietly but she was. She quickly squashed it though. “Sorry. It’s just that sounds like something Scott said to me. It made me think what she would have said if she knew the security crew was giving you suggestions.” She would probably try and get them to help her set Roman up. She grinned, even as she reached for his other hand. “Well if you’re not having fun we could try one of their suggestions if you want.” She was teasing him again.

Rand

Roman looked over at her as she started laughing. Was it funny that he talked to people of other departments? He was the first officer, he kind of had to. Or maybe it was that they didn’t think he did anything for fun. Her statement confirmed it was at least more the second option and he smiled again. “There’s not a department on this ship someone hasn’t decided I needed suggestions.” He said. She took his other hand and by that look he knew she was teasing. But he answered it with the truth: “I couldn’t imagine anything better than being here with you.”
