Main Sim - Alien Planet - Landing Party 2 Outside Valiki

[snip]

As the team got ready and settled, NE Charles began and overview briefing of where they would be beamed down, “..Ok so for your team, you’ll all be settled down near a large village called Valiki. It seems to be settled along the southern shore of a massive valley lake, which is used for mostly local fishing and trade in the region. It seems to be a bit of a mixing pot of human and non-human races in this area, though those in power seem mainly human. We ran scans of the local wildlife in the region and they’re mostly small scaled animals and vermins, rats, mice, squirrels, deer, and a few odd wolf packs roaming about. The main village seems to be a trade hub of sorts for the larger valley region around you. There is also evidence of some kind of religious order or two that mostly seeme tolerated though not very nicely by the locals. Could be they only go to them when they really need for whatever reason. We did scans for any alien technology or scans for warp signatures but nothing has come up concrete. There was a brief blip of some kind of explosion just south of Valiki near one of the farms last night but when we did further scans all we picked up was some kind of thermal residue of unknown output. Morning is just dawning currently so you shouldn’t have too much trouble blending in with the locals. Cultural scans suggest that this town has a lot of taverns and inns, could be places you could pick up clues for what brought us here to start. We also sewed in a UT into everyone’s shirt, so you shouldnt have too much trouble communicating with the locals, and the tricorders are programmed with the local dialects for scanning..” He said.

For the mission Kovan undertook a skin color correction procedure, drastically altering his skin-tone from a rich blue to dark brown. Yet, there was something slightly off about his new human appearance. His skin slightly too smooth, too glossy as though it were opaque glass and not porous skin. It was simply the nature of andorian skin, which did not have as many pores as human skin did. Andorian skin was also slightly transparent, so even with the color correction his blue blood would faintly tint his skin under strong light. Otherwise, Kovan wore the plain clothes, and immediately pulled the cowl of his cape over his head to hide his antennae which could not be removed. He pocketed his phaser and attached a metal dagger to his leather belt. Laying across Kovan’s shoulders was a leather satchel that held sheets of replicated paper (of appropriate quality) bound by leather strips and a bag of charcoal sticks.

He listened attentively to NE Charlies, no detail to small or insignificant. Kovan grimaced at the mention of the local religion. Kovan didn’t particularly cared for religion, or the people who believed in it. Joining two cults was enough religion for him, thank you. Hopefully they won’t have to deal with the order. Kovan wished he had more time to study the local language, and had crammed as much as he could prior to arrival. He’ll have to learn more as they go. Though outwardly he seemed stoic, Kovan was inwardly excited. They could be the very first visitors to this planet. And even if they weren’t, he was still granted the chance to experience a pre-warp culture. Which was a rare and surprising first for him.

Roman had arrived in the transporter room shortly after the teams had been put together. His clothes were plain, standard for the time period of the culture: a thin, plain white shirt, brown grey pants, and a jacket matching what the locals would wear. It would be a bit odd to see him in them, he rarely wore anything besides his uniform or earth formal wear. Roman held his own leather satchel housing a scientific tricorder and his phaser hidden stealthily in his pocket.

He wished he’d been able to talk to Rand before the first team left, but there hadn’t been time. All he could do was hope things went well for her - and safe. But he had to try and put that worry out of his mind, he had a job to do. He listened closely to the explanation of the culture and thought about it momentarily. “Perhaps we should start by inquiring at the tavern about the explosion. Little society like this, it ought to have turned some heads.”

~ Lt Cmdr Alden, XO/CSO

Nodding at Alden’s opinion, Alwyn was thinking about his history classes back on earth, wondering about the similarities between humans’ medieval past and this society. He was wearing a green medieval-like tunic with brown pants and a brown cape. Hanging on his belt was the leather pouch containing his tricorder and a dagger for critical situations, and he was wearing a bag containing bandages, medicinal herbs, and some blanket.

Alwyn was a bit worried about the mission. Sure, having to land on an unknown field is quite stressful, but he also was a bit scared about his medical abilities on the field. Without his instrument, he wonders if he’ll be able to help his team. Of course, he studies traditional medicine, but practicing in a classroom and operating in an emergency, there is a huge gap.

Looking at Kovan, Alwyn was quite surprised to see his transformation. Even if there were some imperfections, he could easily pass for a tall human unless someone looks really close at him, or pull off his cowl. He gave him a smile, trying to hide his mixed feeling of excitation and stress.

The newly arrived CIO ducked under the doorframe and entered the room as the briefing began. Mthunzi was wearing a dark brown hide vest over his bare chest, leaving his well-muscled and ebony black arms bare. Around his neck was necklace on which hung a dark pendant made of some kind of carved bone. Leather trousers and calf-high boots covered his legs, and a dark green cloak hung over his shoulders to the back of his thighs. Completing the ensemble was a large spear and several knives on his belt, along with a satchel containing some of the more ‘sensitive’ technological items.

The Zulu Intelligence officer looked at the group and nodded once and listened to the briefing in earnest.

Nkosenye, CIO

Before now Kovan had not met the CIO. Oh, he’s heard plenty about the giant CIO from Earth from ship scuttlebutt and rumors. Now that Kovan stood next to the guy, he began to understand why so many of the crew were intimidated by the man. Which, was a perfectly reasonable reaction to feel right now when the guy carried a spear, several knives and bone pendant necklace. And those arms! Ngh. Kovan made himself look away. Focus on the mission.

“The tavern would be a good place to start, but if the explosion wasn’t too far from town perhaps we could check the area first? After we see the damage and get our readings, we would know how best to question the locals.”

En. ch’Sirhc, COMMO/ENGR

“I agree with the assessment.” came the deep rumbling voice of the CIO. “If we get readings of the explosion, it would help us tailor our questions… and give us an idea of what we should be looking for elsewhere.”

Nkosenye, CIO

The NE spoke up, “..Given we do not know which region the three teams are beaming down too in had the explosion happen it would be hard, but I guess asking around the taverns would be the best bets..” he said.

GM CockRoach

“Ah, I see.” Kovan said and moved into place on the transporter pad. The tavern would be their best bet then. As a trade hub, the tavern was likely stocked with visitors from all over. He was ready to go, and waited for his fellow teammates to finish their preparations.

Ensign ch’Sirhc, COMMO, ENGR

The NE transporter chief spoke up as everyone got assembled, “..Everyone set then?” he asked.

GM CockRoach

Roman stepped onto the transporter pad. Once everyone was in position, he said, “Let’s move, then. Energize!”

OOC: Moving this along! Also retitling the thread for change in location

With a nod NE Charles initiated the transport cycle. Immediately the landing party was hit with the unusual feeling of nausea as they reformed on the planet below, but it happened so quickly in passing as to not cause any problems for them most likely. And really it was so brief in fact that it could have just been mistaken for something else. As had been said the landing party had been set down in a forested valley. Morning sunrise as had been said was just peeking over the valley ridge line to the east, but equally confirmed was the dreary heavy rain and clouds covering it up. Thankfully for now the forest cover around them, and the leather garb and clothes they wore warded off the worst of this rain and in getting soaked, but like anything if they delayed too long in it they would not be very dry for long.

Looking around they could tell this was a region more settled to habitation then elsewhere on scans. Clear evidence of primitive tool used tree logging was around them, stumps sticking up here and there showing clearly. Also in evidence were hunting trails by both humanoid and animal packs. They had three choices they could pursue for right now, one they could all go down the hill connecting to a east-west bound road that would lead into the lakeside village of Valiki and continue from there. Or two they could head a short distance south through the forests to the earlier indicated stone clearing where NE Charles had reported some kind of explosion had taken place not related to the warp signature that had drawn them here in the first place. Or three they could risk splitting up and do both!
