Randy didn’t even look up at Alden but he did glance up through his lashes at his sister. “He has no idea what he’s in for.” He shrugged, “You’re a pain the back side. She’s just trouble. For instance she knows I have to stay here to monitor your session and it’s late and she’s hoping I’m too tired to frog march her down to sickbay and will just deal with it here. But if Elbbirt finds out I’ll be in serious trouble for not taking her.”

Now Rand felt bad…but not enough to go to sickbay. “Aww come on Randy. It’s not that bad. If it was, you’d be calling a nurse to come get me.” Randy grinned, “I know. And you’re fine. Just keep it wrapped for a few days. It’s just weak. You’ve put that joint through a lot in the last few months. I don’t want you to have to have surgery on it, okay?” Rand couldn’t mistake the look Randy was giving her. She really was lucky. She leaned forward, hugged him, and kissed his cheek. “I promise Randy.”

“Yeah yeah, I know. I love you too.” He wrapped her foot and then ordered her to sit, which she already was and he plopped an ice pack on her ankle. “Sit for awhile, okay? It’s not like he’s going anywhere for a few hours.”

He smiled a little at the exchange between them. “Not going anywhere for a few hours?” Roman complained but he knew it was true. Randy had said before it would be six to eight hours before the pain dropped. But he was still going to complain about it.

The regenerator finished and Randy took the machine down and then, using his tricorder, ran scans of the leg. Finally when he was done, he smiled, slightly. “It looks good, very good, but Elbbirt will have the final say so. I know it’s the last session and your eager to move. But please use the crutches and go slow and wait 2 hours.”

Rand

The regenerator beeped to signal it was done and Randy took it down. Roman watched as he scanned the leg. He knew it was good news when Randy smiled. And then he shook his head. “Wait two hours?” That was the part he chose to say something about but he wasn’t big on using the crutches either. Everything was “go slow” and “wait” and “use the crutches” and while he was generally patient, he didn’t like not being allowed to move on his own and he was quite impatient when it came to waiting for that.

At Alden’s repeated protest Randy sighed, “Like I said a pain in the rear.” He looked up, “Yes. Look the regenerator, works miracles, but it isn’t instant. Once the machine stops your body continues with the repairs for another two hours. That’s why the wait. So, of course free will and all that. I can only advise you.” He left two more hypos, “So one more round of these to help with the healing. Then no more unless the pain gets bad.” He packed up and looked at them both and shook his head.

Once he was gone, Rand looked at Roman. “He’ll be out in half an hour,” and she grinned.

Rand

Or, he could walk the deck with Rand. He wasn’t going to mention that, or Randy would stop them. He nodded to the two hypos, by now that was nothing new. He had no response to being a ‘pain in the rear’, he knew he kind of was. And then he was gone and Roman smiled at Rand. “So, we’re on for our little walk then?”

~ Roman

Rand grinned looking mischievous. “Yes. We’ll be careful,” doing a decent impression of Randy. Then she grinned, “We won’t run, and we’ll stay on this deck. Don’t want to run into any stray pallets.” She shrugged, “I mean I guess we should listen and wait, but what do they know? It’s good for muscles to stretch right? And you are allowed to move around the room.”

Roman grinned at her impression of Randy. “I am, so what’s a little more moving? We’ll be careful, like you said.” Even if it was at 2200 and no one else was around, it would be better than being holed up in his quarters. He was pretty sure he knew way more about what the ceiling looked like than he’d ever wanted to.

As much as Roman might want to see the crew and make his presence known, she felt like an empty deck was better. He wouldn’t be thrilled if he fell or his leg gave out in front of a bunch of people who decided he needed help. Plus with no people he wouldn’t have to try and move around them or go faster than his leg could stand. The first time anyway. Rand really didn’t know how she would feel if he had to go back to sickbay, and she was absolutely refusing to think about it.

Rand picked up the last of her sandwich and finished it. “While we wait for him to pass out do you need me to go get anything?” If not she was happy to stay there leaned against him. The rest of the deck was quiet and there shouldn’t be much if anything going on that night.

Rand

Roman shook his head. There wasn’t anything he could think of that he wanted and really, he’d rather her stay there. They could sit together for the half hour Rand predicted Randy would be out in and that would be fine with Roman.

~ Roman

“Okay,” Rand nodded, her head moving against his shoulder. “Did you see anything interesting about those elephant bears from the drone feed?” She knew if she asked, Roman would let her see them, and maybe tomorrow she would. Right now she’d just rather listen while he talked about it. He was always so animated and excited when he was talking about his work, and she liked to listen.
