Roman shook his head. There wasn’t anything he could think of that he wanted and really, he’d rather her stay there. They could sit together for the half hour Rand predicted Randy would be out in and that would be fine with Roman.

“Okay,” Rand nodded, her head moving against his shoulder. “Did you see anything interesting about those elephant bears from the drone feed?” She knew if she asked, Roman would let her see them, and maybe tomorrow she would. Right now she’d just rather listen while he talked about it. He was always so animated and excited when he was talking about his work, and she liked to listen.

Roman’s eyes lit up and he started to tell her all about them. “They’re quite a lot like earth elephants actually. The drone feed confirms they’re herbivorous. They seem to have a strong sense of community, they wouldn’t leave one of the herd behind…” He went on to explain, rather excitedly, all about them and everything on the drone feed. “I’ll have to show you tomorrow.” He finished at least. He hadn’t considered his leg giving out or him falling a possibility. And if for some reason someone decided he had to go back to Sickbay? They were going to have a difficult patient on their hands. He would have no part of that.

Rand listened quietly, not bothering to take notes, just enjoying listening for the moment. “I can’t wait to see it.” What she’d seen of them was fascinating. And the horns! Were like trunks and ears at the same time…well maybe not. And they made that weird squeaking sound but they were so big. Rand had all kinds of questions that she knew there would be no way to answer unless Roman and his team could study them up close. Despite everything that happened, Rand was excited at the thought of getting to go back. She had no idea if she’d be allowed, but if given the chance she would probably take it.

By the time Roman was done talking about the elephant-bears at length over an hour had passed. She was comfortable but she wasn’t going to back out of letting him get up to walk. She sat up and slipped her shoe back on over the wrapped ankle. “Whenever you’re ready.”
