The whole point of mentioning the shirt was so he didn’t have to wear the wet one across the ship. She didn’t think he would want to wear his uniform all night. She didn’t mind carrying the tray. She honestly thought she carried a tray as often as she did her PaDD or tricorder. When they got to his quarters, she went in and set the tray on the table. Then she turned around, intending to leave so he could change and come back in a few minutes.

Roman was frustrated and quite honestly, that didn’t occur to him. When they got to his quarters, as soon as she turned to leave, he slipped the dirty and wet shirt off and pulled on the clean one. And then he sat down on his bunk, legs over the side, and started rubbing his leg again. Apparently, his leg would consider that walk “prolonged walking” because it hurt. He needed to get an extra chair up there, he’d left the chair for his computer console open for Rand like always.

Rand was gone longer than just a few minutes, but when she returned she had a couple of things with her. Seeing him rub his leg she hurried over, kneeling in front of him, and setting the things on the floor. “Elbbirt said alternate heat and ice, right?” She picked up a cup - black tea with cream and honey - and pressed it into his hand that was rubbing his leg. She squeezed his hand before picking up a fabric roll and opened it. Pressing the controls on the corner she started the heating pad to warming. She picked up the hypo off the side table and pressed it to his leg. It was close enough to time that she felt safe giving it to him, and since he had to take it through tomorrow night she wasn’t going to argue about it. She check the heating pad and it was still warming up, so it was warm but not hot yet. She placed it gently over his leg. She picked up her own cup and set it on the small bed side table, took all the data disks and other things off and moved them to the desk. Picking up the tray she set the soup and drinks on the table and then set the tray on the bed with the sandwiches and small container of whatever raw fruit and veggies the chef had given her. “If you want to stretch your leg out I can roll the blanket to go under your knee if you want.” Rand was inherently a caring person, and even more so when it was someone she cared a lot about.
