Unfortunately because the form of radiation was not something he was familiar with in known science he could not gleam much more from the tricorder scans. Perhaps in this case it was just a clue on something on this planet he could take note of and use later perhaps. So far at this point it clearly was not something which he could tell was related to the warp pulse that had drawn them to this planet, nor did it match anything within the Abyss that they had seen in orbit yet. For now it was perhaps best they either check out the cave, or else return the way they had come and go towards Valiki.

Approaching the footsteps print in the ground, Alwyn managed to make a quick tricorder scan and tried to analyze them in order to find any DNA residue. if anyone have witnessed the explosions, they had to find it quickly. Plus, having the opportunity to study an unknown human-shaped species was a bit of excitement for the young doctor. Even if it wasn’t essential for the missions, it was still important for the scientists and himself.

Doctor Alwyn Yarwood - Enseign

Scans of the DNA were complete, they seemed consistent with the local planet’s lifeforms so far detected. But no exact match came up. So it was probably another type of species or group of species they had yet to encounter. With this in hand though they could use it to track with the tricorder, so far the path of the group of prints and DNA all led into the nearby caves.

“Bah!” Kovan shoved his tricorder back into it’s leather satchel. The radiation was a promising lead and it surmounted to nothing. His tricorder useless and Kovan without a clue as to what the lingering radiation meant or indicated. Frustrated, he moved to join Yarwood, “Find anything?” He asked, his gaze drawn towards the caves.

Ensign ch’Sirhc, COMMO/ENGR

“Maybe”, says Alwyn with a smile. “A small group has passed by recently. And the track leads to the caves.” Pressing his tricorder, he sent the data from the scan to the ship, in order to properly study it.

Landing Team 1 hadn’t found any thing of use in Krezk and had returned to the ship. Rand had been sent back out to lend an extra pair of hands and eyes to team 2. Team 3 had been considered but they were right smack dab in the middle of a large group of locals and there was no way to safely get her in place without anyone noticing. She appeared on the edge of the clearing. The hood of her cloak had fallen and she quickly pulled it up and over her head. As much as to conceal her hair color as to keep the mist and damp away. Scans had said no one else was around, but it never hurt to be careful. She spotted the group, not far, but headed toward what looked like a cave. The clearing looked like some sort of explosion had taken place. She scanned the group quickly, identifying Kovan (they made an investigative pair didn’t they?), Yarwood (she didn’t know the doctor, but Randy spoke highly of him and his skill), and Nkosenye (the man scared her. She didn’t feel threatened by him, but he was scary). Finally her gaze landed on Cmdr Alden and she made her way toward him to report. Once she was within normal speaking range, “Cmdr Alden. I was told you needed an extra pair of hands. We found nothing helpful in Krezk so here I am.” She passed him the knapsack, “NE Bubbles told me you were investigating something. Standard field sample and testing kit.”

Yeoman Rand

The surprise and relief he felt seeing her would only be perceptible to Rand. To everyone else, he seemed his normal stoic but professional self as he nodded to acknowledge her. “We can always use an extra set of hands, Ensign Farquharson,” he replied, taking the knapsack as she passed it to him. “We’ve been investigating the cause of the explosion,” he gestured the the site, but then shrugged, Rand might recognize it as a tad frustrated of a motion, and then continued, “but we’ve found nothing particularly useful. I believe we’re just about ready to head into the caves…?” He phrased the last sentence as a question and then turned and looked to the rest of the team, checking with them.

Kovan nodded at Rand happy to have her help, which surprised him. Kovan usually was never happy to see anyone. That was something to deal with later. Right now there was a mission to complete. “I found traces of radiation but I couldn’t determine how or why it came to be here. I have determined that the explosion didn’t originate from this location, but as a result from an impact.” Kovan looked towards the caves, “I think we should check out the caves next.”

Ensign ch’Sirhc, COMMO/ENGR

Caves were fun, usually, lots of interesting things to see, if you were careful. Did they have climbing gear? Probably not, but surely they wouldn’t explore that far. Well without gear they wouldn’t be able to. She nodded to Alden and then started toward the cave entrance. Oh wonderful…it was raining and they were going to head into the caves…again. Well at least it wasn’t storming with prehistoric giant trees crashing around them, and the path was clearly marked and the ground wasn’t giving way. Her tricorder was already taking readings and she took the hand scanner, which also functioned as a microphone to record sounds, and began describing what she was seeing. The tricorders would pick up the technical details but unless they were describing what they were seeing the visual details may be missed. Plus it gave her something to do. She walked the edge of the clearing, avoiding walking through the blast area. Explosions were meant to reduce things to rubble, get rid of them, break them apart. With her luck it would have weakened the ground and she’d fall into a cave or something underneath. She gave the area a couple extra feet of clearance.

Yeoman Rand

While they all walked toward the cave, with Rand leading, Alwyn approached Roman: “Sir, there is a track of footprints leading to that cave, a small group I’d guess. But most importantly, their DNA signature is a bit different from the locals. It might be a species we haven’t encountered yet.” As exciting as it might sound to him, he know the species could be hostile, and as worrying it was, he couldn’t help, but feel a little excited about it.
