Kajhel was wearing a fur-lined cloak, keeping him nice and warm (he wished he had something like this back when he grew up in northern Andoria) with a hood (hiding his antennae, and protecting his head and face from the cold drops of drizzly rain), and held a stick which he used for walking. Apparently, his face had been altered ever so slightly – with makeup and protheses – to make him look more human, and it felt weird. Luckily, he laughed to himself, he could not tell how it looked as he could not see. He wondered how human he actually would appear to others. As he entered the village, with his team mates, he tried to channel his “inner human”

The village had a fascinating array of smells. On one hand, it smelt dirty, choleric, unhygienic – perhaps the result of bad water treatment and the use of human waste as fertilisers on the fields just outside. Perhaps it was just the season. Animals were up and down, running about. Apparently, there were other races on the surface but none that Kajhel yet had encountered. And on the other hand, there were lovely fragrances from open-air cooking. Herbs of a thousand kinds filled the air too.

– Ensign Kajhel

“I agree with Rand,” Kovan said, eyeing the common merchant and residential quarter. The region was particularly attractive to Kovan who worked primarily in trade and mercantile services before enlisting with Starfleet. “The tavern would be a good place to catch up on local gossip, else the docks would be another good place for news. Merchants can also be a good source of information if you talk to them right.” Though he was speaking to the group his attention was on the people and the buildings around them. He observed the way they moved, their body language as they talked to another. Looked at the way they dressed and how they acted and spoke. Then, he added, “Also, stay aware of your coin purses. It doesn’t matter where you go there are always pickpockets and are group is an attractive and easy target for them.”

As the group was quietly debting their next move, Rand would feel someone or something brush against her left shoulder where she was standing by a corner of one of the buildings. When she would glance that way she would see a pair of small downtrodden children heading off with their heads bowed. One, a human girl of maybe 4-6 years, glanced back with just a hint of green eyes before looking away, the pair then began to turn down an alleyway making their way out of sight.

Rand quickly checked her person and bags to see if anything was taken. She also glanced up to see if anyone or anything was there. The children were young and small. They may have reached her shoulder stretching with a hand but not by simply brushing past her. The green eyes stood out to her. Watching them disappear she spoke to the group. “We’re drawing attention, we need to decide where to go. Maybe even that way.” She had a strong desire to follow the children. She would gladly give them what coin she had, but she needed to make sure they hadn’t pick-pocketed anything they shouldn’t.

Yeoman Rand

Unfortunately for Rand one of the children had nicked something, in this case, their sneaky fingers had snaked into her bag and not only made off with her entirety of local coinage (30 gold pieces, 25 silver pieces, and 90 copper pieces), but more importantly made off with her comm badge and the small daggert that had been given to her for her local defense.
