OOC: Leaving relevant evidence/information here, but snipping

Yeoman Rand (Human. Ruined Uniforms)
En. Kovan (Andorian. Engr/Commo. Door chime hacked to play a song when passed. Audio devices planted in Engineering to play sounds only he could hear)
NE Vash (Human. Science. Door hacked to only open when danced for)
XO Roman (Human. XO. Science. Personal PaDD hacked to add fake meetings across the ship to his daily schedule)
En. Gom (Tellarite. Engr. Itching powder in spare uniform)
En. Macheskey (Human. Medical. Trapped door that dumped green dye on her)

“Given Baker’s behavior and the self sabotage of his PaDD, I ran some cross reference searches and came up with this.”

Borgia (Computer science, he worked with and never seemed to cross paths outside of the lab. Does not have the skill or training to alter her computer credentials.)
Jilva (engineer, he was Vulcan and it seemed unlikely but Vulcan’s had a history of extreme animosity toward Andorians. And they were always in mess hall together either at lunch or dinner. Could create a program to alter her font permanently but does not have the skill to hack the computer clearance codes. He is seeking a promotion and currently dating another officer)
Ginna (a Tellarite engineer that was working on Kovan’s deck the day his chime started acting up)
Ayden (another eng, Human, was there the day before).
NE Baker (Human, Mechanical Science) frequently worked the same shifts with NE Vash and worked a shift with XO Roman before their PaDD was hacked. Stated his plans to prank Rand and was overheard complaining about XO Alden)

Ensign Macheskey logged a complaint against Ginna for what was described as inappropriate behavior.
Ensign Gom also logged a complaint against Ginna for inappropriate jokes about his cleanliness.
En Baker had a formal complaint and write up for inappropriate and harassing behavior toward En Mendez
The analysis reported unusual logs for Jilva and Borgia. Things like showing up to shifts late, leaving in the middle of shifts and other minor things. Nothing that would condemn them, but certainly raised suspicion. Borgia’s roommate has given a statement that Borgia dislikes Baker and family stress is the reason for their unusual logs
Ayden was absent from the report, making Kovan think he’s not involved at all.

Rand looked up from her PaDD where she’d been looking at schedules. She set the PaDD aside for a moment giving Kovan her full attention. She listened as he recounted his conversation with Maguire and nodded. “If that’s true, then we don’t need to add to the man’s problems by dragging him into this.” She pulled her PaDD back over to show Kovan what she’d been working on. “Tain was extremely helpful once she thought I was there to work on Jilva’s promotion. The girl knows more about his movements and habits than I know about Cpt Rogers’. Jilva should watch out. But that works in our favor.” She had Baker and Jilva’s schedule pulled up side by side. Jilva’s was extremely specific, even detailing his off duty hours and where he went and how he got there. “Told you the girl knows way too much. But look how often Jilva and Baker kept crossing paths, even after hours. And Jilva was near the main processor relay on deck 3 the shift before my computer started acting up. Would it keep a record of whose credentials were used to access the panel and what they did?”

Yeoman Rand

“Ugh, he should. No person with that kind of obsessive qualities is destined for a good relationship. I would know.” He said with a grimace and did not elucidate any further. He did look closer at the two schedules now side by side. “It would, actually. We just check the time to find whose credentials were used and then we can either cross-reference with the person’s location at the time or when they last used their own credentials. We can do the same with Jilva’s records to see when there’s a drop in his activity. If we need to we could access the panel ourselves and see what was done.

“There’s also Ginna to consider. We don’t know if they’re apart of this either but they’re an engineer as well. Whatever Jilva doesn’t know or can’t do it’s possible Ginna does.”

Ensign ch’Sirch, COMMO/ENGR

“Let’s see what information we can get from the panel that Jilva accessed. Could we do the same for Ginna? The only connection so far is Ginna was on your deck when we think your chime was messed with. Could we see what Ginna did access. Is it also possible that the alteration to your chime was done before that and it was put on a delay, so it didn’t activate right away?”

Yeoman Rand

“We absolutely can.” Kovan said with a wicked grin. He could sense they were about to get to the meat of their investigation, the proof that their suspects were co-conspirators with Baker. “I couldn’t say,” Kovan said after a pause, giving the idea thought, “I don’t think that kind of programing would be difficult to implement but as I’ve said I’m no programming expert. And we couldn’t check anyways. I had to reset my whole door to stop that vile chime. That would be more computer science than engineering. Though, it would help if we got a security officer. Their credentials would go a lot farther than ours in checking the log-ins.” Being a swing engineer he could look at the engineering side but they could access far more if they had a security officer as well.

Ensign ch’Sirch, COMMO/ENGR

Rand nodded. “Let’s ask Knight. He came on board after all this started so we know he isn’t involved. =O=Yeoman Rand to En Knight. Could you meet myself and En ch’Sirch in Deck 3 section 5? We could use your input.=O= Then she headed toward the lift for Deck 3. They had to look either way.

Rand

Pawl was doing some duties at the security station console. As the message came in =^= “Ensign knight here.” =^= Paul said calmly to her. As he tapped off the console as he finished what he was doing. =^= “Of course I am on my way. I will see you on deck 3 section 5.” =^= Paul said with a smile. As he tapped the panel by his desk to close the channel. As he moved to the nearest lift and headed directly to the area they requested.

Ensign Paul Knight - Jo Security

Kovan and Rand arrived at section 5 of deck 3 just before En Knight and Kovan got to work in accessing the main processor relay. He connected his PADD to the relay and began to sift through the engineering log. The log kept a record of who accessed the relay and when, and notes detailing what was done. “Here.” Kovan held up the PADD so Rand and Knight could see the screen. “This relay was accessed the shift before Rand’s computer began to act up, and it says it was accessed by an engineer named Berle and the notes said they updated the system to repair a glitch. I’ve never heard of this Berle, but there are strict protocols for updating any system. In short, give me a few minutes and I can determine if this was an official update or not.”

Before that he looked to Paul. “Knight. Could you access the security footage for this hall from this time?”

Ensign ch’Sirch, COMMO/ENGR

Pawl moved to the console as he started to pull up what they were wanting to see of the corridor cameras to see if there was anything there. And if this unknown officer would be there in the cameras at the time was questioned. Pawl put his password to confirm his identity. Before the computer brought up the given information. “Here we go…” Pawl said calmly to the others.

Ensign Paul Knight - Jo Security

Rand didn’t need to pull the ship’s roster to know there was no Burle, but she ran the name anyway just to be thorough. “It goes without saying but there is Burle, and there are no registered computer/access accounts for anyone with that name. So someone tricked the computer system.” Then she pulled the duty roster for the indicated shift. “Baker, Jilva, and Ayden were all on duty that shift,” Rand announced before turning her attention to the screen and security feeds Knight had pulled up.

Yeoman Rand

A tellarite male was visible on the security feed. He carried with him a PaDD and a data chip. The feeds showed him placing the chip into a port then connecting his PaDD with another. The tellarite messed with the PaDD for a couple minutes before unplugging it and the chip and quickly walking away. He never once looked up at the camera, but seemed nervous as one could see him restlessly tapping his foot while working.

Meanwhile, Kovan was sorting through information on his PaDD. Too focused on that to pay attention to the screen. In fact, it took him several minutes to find what he was searching for. “There!” Kovan pointed to a point in the log. The information on the screen would only make sense to engineers, but Kovan didn’t care because he was about to explain it, “I know how these [foul-sounding swear in another language] have been altering credentials and tricking the ship’s computer. They got their hands on a Hijacker. It’s a program, usually found in black markets or bought from unsavory folk, that disguises itself as an update or a patch but is really a hacking tool. This is how they’ve been able to alter credentials they couldn’t otherwise touch.”

Rand glanced up from where she was watching the feed, “What? That’s not just disruptive, couldn’t something like that give the orginator access to the Sentinels computer? Could something like that be collecting and sending out data?”

“No, not this one.” Kovan considered the data on the screen, “But other Hijackers certainly could.”

Hijackers were the favored tools of smugglers, pirates and other criminal sorts. Usually used to sabotage systems or lock captains out of a ship’s controls. They worked great on general purpose ships. Kovan never thought he’d see one aboard a Starfleet vessel. Guess there was a first time for everything. “Doesn’t look like it’s a very sophisticated Hijacker, but still, they could have done far worse damage then they did. Imagine if this was a fake and actually contained a virus” Then he added off-handily, “I wonder where they picked this one up.”

Ensign ch’Sirch, COMMO/ENGR

Paul pulled up the tellarite footage from his copies of the security tapes and checked other cameras to see if there was a better picture of the person. To see if he can identify the being. Paul listened as he did his thing. “Does anyone know who this is?” Pawl inquired. “I don’t recall there being a tellarite is part of the crew according to the manifest.”

Ensign Paul Knight - Jo Security

“En. Gom and En Gina are both Tellarite. They are both engineers. Also Dr Grat in medical is Tellarite.” Rand looked at the footage again and then fiddled on her own PaDD pulling up the roster. “Got him. Gom’s black haired, Gina’s blonde.” She pointed at the footage and sure enough the Tellarite engineer on the screen was black haired. “How much you want to be Gom put that itching powder in his own uniform to avoid suspicion?”

Yeoman Rand

Kovan swore under his breath, “Just like with Baker!” He turned to Knight, “Early in our investigation we talked to NE Baker, he was our only suspect at the time. During our talk Baker’s PaDD began to act up and went on the fritz. Not that it helped him because we’re certain Baker is one of the pranksters. The only thing we weren’t certain of is who helped him and how.” Kovan glared at the security footage, “Gom’s an engineer, it is well within his ability to program a PaDD to cause a distraction if Baker ever came under suspicion.”

He swore again, “We never even thought of looking into the other prank victims. Gom hid himself in plain sight!”
