However, for anyone that would turn up early three data chips ready for use on the briefing screen were laid out, each one labeled:

1) Vok III, Ruff II, Quincey II Colony Statuses
2) Orion Lighting Class Blockade Runner/Raider intelligence ship profiles
3) Federation shipping trade lane intelligence for the Vok/Ruff/Quincey colony sector

Marcus had been on the Bridge when Captain Rogers had received her orders from Command, but he was keen to familiarize himself with the minute details of the Sentinel‘s upcoming mission. Stepping into the conference room on Deck 3, Anders took his seat next to the XO’s chair and accessed the data chip on the colonies, “Computer, list any notable attacks on the Vok III, Ruff II and Quincey II colonies.”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

The computer chirped and the data disk begin to process, =/\= Processing =/\= The computer intoned.

Right after Marcus sat, the room’s doors opened to reveal Alwyn yawning as wide his jaw could allow. His recent promotion not only gave him new responsibilities but also a new schedule, which he still was trying to get used to, as the rings under his eyes showed.

The Doctor sat in front of Marcus, took some coffee, and poured some into it before drinking it all in a mouthful. His eyes already looked a bit more focused, the drink taste wakening his brain.

“Coffee ?”, he offered.

Lieutenant JG Alwyn Yarwood - CMO

=/\= Still processing =/\= The computer echoed as it worked on the information chip

The call to the meeting woke Roman. He’d been sleeping well and now he was going to be cranky all day. Had Rand gotten up quietly? … No, she was still in bed, cuddled up next to him. Groggily he jostled her awake. “Did you know there was a staff meeting tonight?” He asked.

“A staff meeting? No…next one is schedule for 1400 day after tomorrow in the conference room.” Rand sat up and snatched her comm off the table, while she dressed. In a matter of moments she was already having a heated discussion with the comm officer who was tasked with waking the senior staff. She reminded her quite firmly that protocol dictated the Captain’s yeoman be notified any time the CO was woken or disturbed after duty hours. And a few other regulations that had been overlooked. The poor comm officer stammered she was only following the orders she was given.

Pulling himself out of bed, he rushed to get ready, quickly changing into a uniform and brushing out his hair. “Are you coming? You should be there.” He said sleepily to Rand. It was just past midnight, he noticed, checking the time. Why were staff meetings always so late? If only Roman could have a few words with command, he thought frustratedly, but he would never actually say anything.

She nodded snapping the communicator shut and clipping it to her belt. She was still braiding her hair as they walked out the door.

Arriving at the meeting, he checked the offered drinks. Caffeinated tea?? Who would ruin tea like that?! The coffee smelled too strong for his tastes. He ignored the juice entirely. Maybe it was his foul mood, but he would rather nothing. With a dissatisfied grunt, he took his seat at the table and tried to look more awake than he was.

Rand glanced at the ‘help yourself’ style approach. First thing was to fix that. Reaching under the counter, several cups appeared, fruit infused water was prepped and set at at Roger’s chair. Black tea was steeped, and then several other drinks were prepped, all made according to preference and then set at the DH’s chair. She offered her apologies to both Anders and Yarwood and provided them anything they might want instead or in addition to. Then she sat at her chair, against the wall (the ‘Yeoman’s chair’s) where she could record the minutes and notes and be available but out of the way.

Alwyn showed his palm to Rand and nodded with a smile meaning he was already at it. But he did take one of the cubes from the bowl and tried it. Strawberry, tasted the man. Not like real ones, but that will do

=/\= Please stand by processing task is taking longer then expected =/\= The computer said again to the XO

While they waited, Rand pulled the information that had been downloaded to the data disks from the ship computer to her PaDD. She had several blank data disks on hand and began copying the data over. In do course each person at the table had a set of disks for their own use and perusal of the files.

Marcus had not had much interaction with Lieutenant Yarwood, but grinned at the possibility of a wake up call, “Make mine double strength.”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

“Roger that”, said the doctor. He took two spoonful of fresh coffee before pouring the hot water and gave it to Marcus.

“By the way, I don’t think there was a staff meeting scheduled for tonight, was it ?” The question wasn’t specifically for Marcus, and he expected Alden or Rand to be the one to deliver that kind of information. “Or maybe I was too busy and didn’t notice it…”

Lieutenant JG Alwyn Yarwood - CMO

“There was no meeting scheduled for today. There must be something urgent going on,” Roman replied, still looking tired. It had best be important if it couldn’t wait for morning, he thought, scowling again.

~ Cmdr Alden, XO/CSO

Rand shook her head as she worked. She placed the last mug, Alden’s, on the table. “Next scheduled meeting was in two days, Lt.” She had spoken with the on duty comm officer and knew Rogers had gotten a call from Command. Saying it that way sounded like gossip though, and Rand did not gossip. “Judging by the information on the data disks, I would say we have new orders.” The food offerings she supposed would suffice, but she could always call down to the Galley if something else was wanted. She grabbed a bottle of water and resumed her seat, and scanning the files provided.

As Rand got the data chips copied and laid out they were ready to be inserted to have the computer read them to show information. Rand could also confirm that from her brief scanning of the information they did indeed have new mission orders. The first chip seemed to cover information on three different border colonies, and their current status as well as a brief history of each and their current colonial administrators. The second seemed to be some kind of intelligence/tactical report about Orion pirate activity and the assumed possible ship type to be used by them near said three colonies. The third chip seemed to deal with Federation shipping processes to and from the three colonies and the current safety of trade along such routes.

Finally with a beep the XO’s earlier request finally got through, =/\= Process complete, displaying information =/\= It said. On the small side display screen near the XO information on his request about attacks near the three colonies came up:

The information showed that the three colonies, first settled back in 2190s by three major families and their supporters on each colony who wanted more freedom from the Federation at the time had gone without incident. But then in 2215s increased Orion pirate activity on the colonies forced them to join the Federation for protection. Orion attacks dropped significantly from then on. However, the report also stated that as of late the trade routes between the three colonies locally had seen a rise in raids by one or more pirate groups.

“Much obliged Doc,” then a thought crossed the Security Chief’s mind, “Now, I only just passed my computer use course at the Academy, but should processing a data file have taken that long?”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

OOC: Bump!

GM CockRoach

Rand listened to the report the computer spit out and then pulled up information on the major families and their supporters for Vok III, Ruff II, and Quincey II. The report stated they originally wanted more freedom from the Federation and circumstances forced them to return for protection. That didn’t always sit well with people. She was looking for political/social/economic/etc information that would be useful for the senior staff to know for when dealing with the leaders of the colonies. Biographical information, psych profiles and the like.

To Anders she shook her head, “No it shouldn’t take that long. I can call down to engineering if you like or we can tell 1st Lt Ch’ethyniq when he gets here.”

Shirley entered the conference room swiftly and took as seat at her desk. She looked over her DHs and took mental note on who was in the meeting and noticed that her chief engineer was not present, “Has anyone seen Lieutenant Ch’ethyniq?” She glanced at Rand, “Yeoman, could you please reach out to him. He needs to be here for this meeting.”

  • Captain Shirley Rogers

“Of course, Captain,” Rand got up and moved toward the comm panel and pressed the button =O=1st Lt Ch’ethyniq please report to the conference room.=O= If he didn’t answer she’d go find him. The man was personable and easy to work with as far as Rand was concerned. He also loved his engines like most engineers she knew. He could be caught up in the middle of something he couldn’t walk away from. The meeting was called at short notice. Possibly he was a heavy sleeper. She wasn’t looking forward to having to go in and wake anyone up. She might wake up Randy to do that for her.
