[snip]

The silence snapped and Kovan shook his head with a quiet groan. He leaned back in his chair, and brought his mug of water his lips, only to cough because it was room temperature and disgusting. Kovan ran his hand down his face, listlessly casting his gaze about the bridge until it caught on Rand. Kovan knew he shouldn’t speak without thinking but when did his mouth ever pay any attention to his mind? He spoke to her in Tradealouge, a language only the two of them knew and one that circumvented the universal translator due to intentional design of the language. Trade languages had to be fluid and flexible, something the universal translator couldn’t comprehend. At the end of his sentence he smirked. Kovan could imagine the polite torture the landing party no doubt found themselves in.

Ensign ch’Sirhc

In the silence of the bridge Rand heard Kovan’s quiet groan. She understood. The waiting was endless it seemed. The cough drew her attention and she caught the look he gave his mug. Time to make a galley run to refresh for everyone. Then Kovan spoke and Rand was really glad she did not have a drink because it would have been spewed across the bridge. Before her accident her face would have never shown what she was thinking, but it wasn’t like that anymore. Luckily no one was watching her. She looked at Kovan and shook her head, biting back laughter. She was still learning Tradealouge, but she’d managed to relearn what Kovan had already taught her. She made her way over and leaned back against the edge of the console and answered him kind.

Yeoman Rand

As the two were musing through this with various other NE’s on standby on the bridge. Over by Kovan’s station something perhaps interesting caught his attention!

On the system wide visual scanners on the smaller station screen which were phasing through different points observed in the system. The screen shifted to a shot of the in system asteroid belt it wasn’t very thick given over the long years the colonists had bit by bit been chewing up the mineral rich asteroids for resources to break them down and use them for stuff. The interesting bit was he happened to be glancing at the screen when he saw a 2km egg like asteroid that was lazily drifting like the rest, suddenly make a curious out of the way maneuver like it was ‘side stepping’ from impacting with another asteroid pair nearby. Once done it went back to lazily drifting into the system’s interior like the rest as if nothing happened. To be honest if one weren’t looking at this spot at that exact second anyone would probably have missed it!
