The office of the Chief Engineer was now an office without any decorations, the previous Chief’s stuff had been cleaned out and now awaited the new Chief to move in and make it their own. Karl had served under many Chiefs in his nearly twenty years in the service and he’d been happy just to do the work, occasionally he’d been forced to do some administrative work and even Bridge duty but generally, he’d considered it beyond him, so when the Captain gave him his new uniform with the rank of Master Chief Petty officer and the title of Chief Engineer he was more than a little surprised, fo rthe latter title he was more than experienced enough but he’d never considered it. The former was a bit of a surprise as he thought himself a few years too young for the rank, but he’d been offered the duty and he accepted and would perform it to the best of his ability.

He stood in front of his new desk, staring at it as one would a strange beast, he’d been in here plenty enough during staff meetings or simply conversations with his boss, but now he was the boss, excluding staff meetings with Commander Alden or Captain Rogers he was the highest authority when it came to decisions regarding the ship’s mechanical health. Hands-on hips and a frown on his face he put together a mental list for what needed to get done.

Master Chief Karl - CE

Another day, another Chief Engineer on the Sentinel. Kovan didn’t care who filled the role of CE so long as it wasn’t him. He could be qualified for the position but he would never accept it. He was an engineering officer but in his mind (and heart as corny as that was) he was a communication’s officer first and foremost. That was his area of expertise and where he held the most experience. Kovan was a great engineer but he was a master of communications. Also, he could think of worse people in the role of CE than Karl.

Kovan entered the CE’s office with a PaDD chok full of lists. Lists of all major projects, lists of requested maintenence, lists of materials and tools to be requisitioned. The engineering department worked tirelessly to compile all the information CE Karl could need as he transition into his new position. “Here’s the masterlist for the engineering department.” Kovan held out the PaDD for Karl to take. “I’m sure you know most of it already.” Kovan added with a shrug. Why he was picked to deliver the PaDD was beyond him.
