Shirley looked to Rand to meet her gaze, As far as the ceremony goes, I agree lets have it in the gym. That should work out well. I am really looking forward to recognizing the crew, promotion ceremonies are always lovely to take part in.” She then attached the list of crew members getting promoted and sent it over to Rand’s PADD, “There you should have it now. Did you have any questions for me?”

  • Captain Shirley Rogers

Rand checked the list and then back to Rogers, “No questions Captain. I’ll have this prepared immediately.” Once dismissed Rand stood and left Roger’s office. Her first stop was the ship’s laundry to put the request in to have the uniforms adjusted as the officers dropped their uniforms off to be cleaned. Her next stop was Gorshin in the mess. He would prepare some type of refreshment for the event. He could also keep a secrete, so Rand was able to tell him who was getting promoted. Gorshin would have a selection but would be sure to have the favorites of the officers being recognized.

The last and most time consuming stop was the cargo bay to see the quartermaster, Chief Helpful. From him, Rand had to request brand new dress uniforms and insignia pins for those being promoted. Then there was the podium, tables, and banners. Then they coordinated for the time and put on the ship’s schedule to close the gym so they would have time to work. While Helpful took care of that, Rand returned to her office, preparing the promotion orders and adjusting the schedule to make sure the crew being honored would be off duty. Then Rand found Rogers again. This time the Yeoman handed the Captain actual papers, not documents on a PaDD. “Promotion orders for your official signature, Captain. It’s been scheduled for 1100 hours tomorrow morning. I will make a ship wide announcement when we are finished.”

Shirley accepted the promotion orders from Rand and reviewed them carefully before returning the documents to Rand. She glanced up at Rand to meet her gaze, “All signed and ready to go Ensign.” She then handed Rand the newly signed orders.

Rand returned to her office to submit the orders to Star Fleet command and then activated the ship-wide comm. =O=The sound of the boatswain’s whistle Attention all Crew. Tomorrow at 1100 hours all off duty and available personnel are to report to the ship’s Gymnasium on Deck 8. All personnel are to report in uniform.=O=

The gym had been cleared and at the far end of the room a podium on a small rise was positioned. A small table sat behind and just to the side with a stack of dress uniforms with the new gold rank embroidered and one small black velvet lined box. With each was a copy of official promotion orders with the captain’s signature and the official seal of Star Fleet and the Federation. On the wall directly behind the podium was the flag of the United Federation of Planets. To the left of that was the flag of Star Fleet, and to the right the seal and insignia of the Sentinel herself. Gorshin had set up 3 elegant tables with food and drink. Each was covered in crisp white linens, and the best flat wear and dishes they had on board. As always he had outdone himself and he and his staff were wearing clean pressed and immaculate chef’s uniforms.

Rand had taken extra time to ensure her own gold uniform was immaculate and her boots polished and her hair pinned up neatly. In addition to her regular uniform, today she was wearing a gold chain attached to her boatswain’s whistle. She stood behind the podium and when Rogers was ready she stepped up to attention, lifted the whistle and blew the call for the rank and file to come to attention. She stepped back and made a half turn to give her attention to Rogers.

Rand passed Rogers, first a small box containing a Master Chief Petty Officer rank pin - a topped circle with a stylized diamond inside - to exchange for the Senior Chief Petty Officer rank pin - a topped hexagon with a thin line in the middle.

Next was a red dress uniform shirt with the gold dashed Lieutenant Junior Grade stripe added to the blank sleeve.

Passing Rogers the next folded shirt was a blue dress shirt with the Lieutenant Junior Grade stripe added again to the blank sleeve.

The final piece in the stack was another blue dress uniform. On the sleeve the solid line accompanied by a dashed line of a Lieutenant Commander had been replaced by two solid lines of a Commander.

Yeoman Rand

Shirley reviewed the set up of the gymnasium and turned to face Rand, “Well done on the set up Ensign.” She then faced the crew in attendance, “Thank you for attending the ceremony this evening crew. It will be a night of recognition for those who have earned promotions in rank due to their performance and achievements.” She looked in the crowd for her Chief of Security until she finally discovered him in the puzzle of uniforms and faces, “Ensign Anders, please step forward.”

  • Captain Shirley Rogers

Bump

Anders grinned and stepped grandly forward, “Aye Captain,” he said, keeping at a brisk attention while he waited fof the CO to say the next part of her speech.

-Ensign (Soon to be Lt. Juinor Grade) Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

BOARD BUMP

-Kieron-

“You have performed well here on the Sentinel as our Chief of Security. However, the quality of your work is no longer that of an Ensign. No, definitely not. It is more Lieutenant quality.” Shirley smiled at Anders for a moment and then handed him a red dress uniform shirt with the Lieutenant Junior Grade markings on the sleeves. “Congratulations Lieutenant Anders.” She clapped proudly for Marcus, “Keep at it and there may be a chair in your future Lieutenant.”

  • Captain Shirley Rogers

Marcus was stunned, it hadn’t been long since he had first been given the position of Security Chief aboard the Sentinel and had done his best to follow the CO’s orders to the letter. He thought it would have been months, if not years until he made Lieutenant. Sensing that the Captain was waiting on a response, Anders quickly said, “Thank you ma’am, I’ll do me best to do you and this ship proud.”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

Shirley grinned at Marcus and then gestured to him in front of the crew while a majority applauded recognizing Anders’ excellence. She then glanced at Marcus, “You may return to your seat Lieutenant Anders.” She then looked to the crowd for the next member of the crew being promoted while she waited for Marcus to return to his seat.

  • Captain Shirley Rogers

Marcus nodded, then seemed to glide back to his seat, taking a moment to take his promotion in.

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

Rand clapped for the newly promoted Anders. He worked very hard for the promotion and deserved it. She picked up the next set and passed it to Roger’s.

Yeoman Rand

Kral joined in the applause for the young Security Chief, as far as he knew the lad had done admirably for one so inexperienced and the promotion was well deserved.

Shirley scanned the crew for a moment until her eyes fell upon Chief Johansson. A soft smile spread across her lips as she met his gaze. She spoke with confidence in her voice, “Chief Johansson, please step forward.” She proceeded to gesture with a hand motion for him to stand next to her as she intended to continue on with the celebration of progression in the ranks. These ceremonies were always a joy to take part in since crew recognition, growth, and development was critical in ensuring that Starfleet was ready to overcome the sometimes overwhelming obstacles that stood in front of them.

Karl hadn’t registered that his name was spoken for a full five seconds until one of his colleagues nudged him with an elbow which caused him to blink in surprise as his mind caught up to the Captain’s words. He shook the surprise off his face and walked up the podium, a stiffness in his shoulders that wasn’t usual for the normally easygoing Engineer “Ma’am?” He said in a slight whisper as he stood to attention next to the Captain

SCPO Karl - Eng

Anders clapped Karl on the shoulder and grinned as the young Engineer made his way up onto the podium.

OOC: Sorry about the AWOL folks! Those of my fellow Brits may know that it is still Panto season for some theatres in the UK Iwhich is stupid but there we are)

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

OOC: Just a little not, Karl is in his late thirties, not a young engineer :) - Hjortur

OOC: No problem buddy! I’ll get a post soon. Thanks for the reply.

Matt

OOC: Take your time! I went AWOL again, on the home stretch with Panto now though!

-Kieron-

OOC: No problem buddy. It has been a busy time for me as well, plus I’m sick on top of that.

  • Matt

Oh no, hope you’re feeling better!

-Kieron-

Rand gave Karl a smile as he made his way to the podium. He had always been nice to her and always willing to help out wherever he was needed. After a pause where eceryine kind of stared at each other, the young yeoman softly cleared her throat and placed the small box, containing a Master Chief Petty Officer rank pin - a topped circle with a stylized diamond inside - to exchange for the Senior Chief Petty Officer rank pin - a topped hexagon with a thin line in the middle, and official orders on the podium in front Cpt Roger’s.

Yeoman Rand

Shirley made direct eye contact with Karl and a smile spread across her lips. “Chief, you have served Starfleet admirably over the course of your career. The progress that you have made during your time here can be seen by many as inspirational. Your performance on the Sentinel has been top of the line with your promotion to our Chief Engineer, you have also been promoted to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. Congratulations and well deserved Master Chief.” Shirley then removed the Senior Chief Petty Office pin and replaced it with the Master Chief Petty Officer pin.

  • Captain Shirley Rogers

It didn’t take long for Karl to adjust to the unexpected situation. He put on a genuine smile and no small amount of pride as the Master Chief pin was placed on him. He’d been promoted to Senior Chief earlier than normal so he’d expected to stay at that rank for at least three more years before he’d be pushed up to Master Chief. He pushed down the dread he felt at becoming Chief Engineer, there was time for that later “Thank you sir, I’m honored to serve” He shook the Captains hand, a firm confident grip that didn’t take too long, he did not waste her time with graditute.

“Hear hear,” Marcus called out from the middle of the crowd.

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

Karl did give the Security chief an amused look as he turned to leave the podium. He did not fondle the new rank, he was already writing mail to send home, his boy would be happy, he always liked hearing such news.

Master Chief Karl - CE

“Well deserved Chief,” Marcus whispered as Karl took his position next to the newly appointed Security Chief in the crew line up.

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

OOC: Bump.

Rand grabbed the next stack. She passed Rogers the folded blue dress shirt with the Lieutenant Junior Grade stripe added again to the blank sleeve along with orders for Alwyn Yarwood.

Yeoman Rand

Shirley looked to the crew, “Ensign Yarwood, please join us up here.” A smile spread across her face.
