“MCPO Johansson, send Engineers aboard the ship, both to investigate it and for repairs. Bring Security with you. Our sensors tell us there is little atmosphere aboard that vessel. You will all be wearing EVA suits.”

Cmdr Alden XO

The ship itself was firmly locked into place by the tractor beam and offered no resistance. On the view screen, if the bridge crew took the time to closely examine the image, would find signs of long-term wear and tear on the vessel. To see a running ship showing decades of age upon its hull could strike the crew as unusual. The march of age decays everything, given enough time, and to let a space ship reach such a state without replacing the old parts would make any starship fragile and vulnerable.

Lieutenant J.G. Marcus Anders heard the call and made haste in the direction of his nearest Transporter Room. He had been watching the Alien ship being tractored in with keen interest. It had been a long time since Marcus had seen a ship of such interesting design; he was almost jealous of whoever had the honour of flying her, at least when she wasn’t held in by the Sentinel‘s tractor beam. Still. a Securtiy risk could still be present, so joining the Engineering team as a form of back up would be in the best interest of the Sentinel and her crew.

Arriving at Transporter Room 2, EVA suit ready to be donned, Marcus grinned at the Officers around him, “Well, let’s hope they’re welcoming.”

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

The two engineering NE’s sent by the Chief were already there slowly putting on the EVA suits as the Security Chief arrived, the senior of the two, an ensign in his middle years looked up, a half smile on his face “Yes, sir” He answered his senior officers grin and mood.

Once given the command, the engineers and security team were beamed aboard the alien vessel. She was a small ship, only four decks, three of which were devoted entirely to cargo or passenger space. Given the layout and design it was a safe bet that the ship was a humble transport vessel designed to carry people and goods over short distances. The team were beamed into the engineering room which contained two air locks that provided access to the engines themselves.

Primary propulsion was achieved by two engines that ran on some kind of high-efficiencey liquid propellant. All of which was used and gone but scans could pick up on what little dried flecks of it remain. Secondary propulsion were a type of non-dilithium battery capable of reaching warp 2 for incredibly short bursts of time. How long exactly would require more study. These “warp batteries” were cracked but any engineer could look at them and know that they were terribly inferior to the cores of Star fleet vessels.

What little power there is for life support was provided, quite noticeably, by an unusual source. Various power lines were pulled from the wall, cut and the cut ends haphazardly wrapped around a slightly sparking but brightly glowing rock shoved into a tangle of various cords and lines that ran through the walls. The panel that was pulled to reveal these cables lay on the opposite side of the room.

There are no other life signs aboard the ship, nor sign that anyone else could have been with the injured woman aboard.

“I know there are no other lifesigns on board, but I’ll take watch, you can never be too sure!” Marcus made a point of keeping his phaser in the hilt of his EV suit, but kept the arch beams on maximum illumination, you could never be too careful on a ship like this…

-Lieutenant Junior Grade Marcus Anders: Chief of Security-

The two NE’s looked around the room, Zem who was the younger had a look of awe on his face “I aint never seen nothing like this” His gaze seemed fixed on the strange engines, Roberts, on the other hand, was focused and on task, gently nudging his fellow “Be careful, sir, we don’t know how much power is running through those cables.” He grabbed his rather oversized Engineering Tricorder and started a scan cycle of the strange rock “Now what are you?” He asked in a half whisper.

NE’s, Roberts & Zem

The rock was composed of silicon and silicate minerals woven together by bands of of sturdy complex molecule chains that pulse with electric energy. It seemed as the energy travels through the bands it picks up momentum and strength until it is expelled from the rock. How the rock creates this energy is unknown assuming it could produce energy and not merely keep the current going. According to the tricorder readings, so long as there is some energy within the rock to spin around and around it could go on for near perpetuity. A perfectly balanced system.
