“Doctor Helen Elizabeth, I presume? It seems you’re the last one on our list for the screenings. As much as we appreciate your hospitality, we are here to follow regulations and ensure the well-being of everyone in the colony, including its head colonial doctor,” Dr. MacKenzie said, his voice firm and calculatingly cool. Not impolite, but she could certainly read between the lines.

He gestured for her to come closer, indicating that it was time for her to undergo her own checkup. Despite her air of authority and annoyance, Dr. MacKenzie remained focused on his professional duties, determined to complete the task and provide a thorough report for the benefit of the colony and Starfleet. He was also damn sure he wasn’t going to let this grumpy faux-aristocrat’s poor attitude do anything for her. It might work on the colony where she felt some sense of control, but it went nowhere with him.

Doctor Elizabeth looked annoyed, she tsked off to the side again, gritting her teeth and muttering something under her breath that no doubt reflected poorly on Starfleet and their stupid policies. Finally, she came over and sat down without a word and rolled up the sleeve of one jacket to expose her arm as she would have had to do were either one to request it. “..Just hurry it up. I have an important meeting in 12 minutes that can not be missed for one of my high station and position.” She said. The check up could only take less then 10 but, there were of course ways if the two wanted to drag it out longer if they felt the desire too and still be able to mostly get away with it without causing too much trouble. Or they could just get her through quick and quiet, then processed and on her way so they could then go meet with the local colonial medical director that was likely Helen’s assistant that had gotten volen-told to do the job instead of Helen.

Dr. MacKenzie rolled his eyes at Doctor Elizabeth’s insistence on mentioning her high station and the importance of her meeting. He grabbed the necessary equipment and began the examination, making sure to be efficient but not as gentle as he could be.

“Your station in life doesn’t exempt you from following proper medical procedures, Doctor Elizabeth,” Thaddeus said gruffly as he took her blood sample with a slightly rougher touch than usual. “Good medicine doesn’t care about your social standing or the urgency of your meetings. It’s about ensuring the health and well-being of everyone, regardless of their position.”

Elizabeth snubbed up her nose at MacKenzie. “..Humph, obviously you are an under educated doctor of such a low born station if that is your opinion, you know nothing!” She said.

As he continued the examination, Dr. MacKenzie made sure to complete it within the allotted time, despite the urge to drag it out just to make a point. He kept his focus on the task at hand and, despite his abrasive demeanor, he ensured that Doctor Elizabeth received a thorough and accurate assessment that took a grand total of 9 minutes and 22 seconds, giving the precious head doctor enough time to make her appearance at whatever meeting was ‘so important’.

Charlie watched curiously as MacKenzie performed the necessary checks on the esteemed doctor. She was still finding it hard to get a read on him but she did admire his efficiency. “I presume you have this in hand doctor?” She asked, letting him know she was available if he ran into any problems although she was fairly sure he could handle one surly old woman.

With her scan done Elizabeth smoothed out her attire, and took off. She clearly wanted to berate the pair for delaying her arriving to the meeting, but already cutting it close to get there on time she took off at a hastened pace, though not an outright full run. Looking at the doctor’s results they would fine she was in excellent health overall. She had slightly elevated blood pressure and heart rate during the exam, but that seemed more likely due to her irritation of having to be examined then anything. For now they were as done as they could be go to meet the local colonial medical director assistant that Elizabeth had pawned off the job she would have done to meet them.

Watching the retreating form of the high-born doctor, Thaddeus merely shook his head and let out a soft, gruff chuckle. “Never had much time for high-borns and their fancies,” he muttered to himself, turning back to the medical console to finalize the last of his notes on Dr. Elizabeth. “As long as her heart keeps beating and her blood keeps flowing, she can think what she wants. I’m here to ensure the health of the colonists, not to win popularity contests.”

Having completed his duties, he then proceeded to prepare himself for the meeting with the local colonial medical director assistant, hoping that interaction would be more professionally oriented and less filled with needless social status posturing.
