As Randy stood in front of the Captain’s ready room, he couldn’t help but tap his foot impatiently. He had a meeting with the Captain scheduled, and even though he was a few minutes early, he was eager to get it started. Randy smoothed down the front of his uniform, a custom-tailored take on the traditional Starfleet attire. It combined a skirt with the standard uniform top, the skirt falling just above his knees and showing off his undeniably nice legs. He wore a pair of black, heeled ankle boots that gave him a few extra inches of height and a certain flair.

Despite being early, Randy felt a touch of sassiness bubbling up inside him. He knew that sometimes people might question his choice of attire, but he was confident in his abilities and his position on the ship. He held his head high and allowed himself a small, playful smirk.

As the door to the ready room slid open, Randy stepped in, his heels clicking on the floor with each stride. He flashed a charming smile at the Captain and said, “Permission to come in, Captain? I promise I won’t take up too much of your time.”

He knew that he was a valuable asset to the crew, providing both administrative support and counseling services. His sassy attitude and unique sense of style only served to make him more memorable and approachable, especially to those who might need his help. With a confident air, Randy stood tall, ready to discuss whatever the Captain had on her mind.

–Randy–

Rende was sitting at her desk composing a letter. She had been working on it for days. The fact her ever efficient yeoman wasn’t with her, indicated it was personal. She looked up and graced him with a warm smile. “Ah, the other En Farquharson,” and she actually pronounced it correctly, despite the heavy hint of Irish lilt. “Please come in and have a seat. What can I do for you?”

Randy returned the warm smile, impressed by the Captain’s correct pronunciation of his surname. The light Scottish brogue in his voice added a touch of familiarity and warmth to his words. “Thank ye, Captain. It’s always a pleasure tae hear someone pronounce it right,” he remarked, appreciating her effort.

He gracefully took a seat across from the Captain and folded his hands in his lap. “Well, Captain, I’ve come tae discuss a wee matter regardin’ crew morale. I’ve been observin’ some concerns among our fellow shipmates, and I thought it’d be best tae bring it tae yer attention. Perhaps we could brainstorm some ways tae improve the situation and keep everyone in high spirits.”

Randy’s eyes sparkled with genuine concern for the well-being of the crew, his sassy demeanor momentarily taking a back seat to his professional dedication.

– Randy –

Rende nodded slowly. “Yes, I imagine after loosing two captains and the personal issues that have targeted some of the crew there is need for concern. Since I have only just arrived myself, lay it out for me.”

Asam, CO

Randy leaned forward slightly, his voice taking on a more confidential tone. “Aye, Captain. Ye’re right about the impact o’ losin’ two captains and personal issues on the crew. But there’s a bit more tae it, ye see. I’ve heard some juicy gossip while walkin’ about the ship.”

Oh now that was interesting gossip. This was quite the different experience than with her Yeoman. Rand was very closest mouthed about gossip, onky sharing things she knew to be a fact, and very rarely were those things about the crew’s personal lives. Rende leaned forward slightly, the Farquharson in front of her having her full attention.

He hesitated for a moment, making sure he had the Captain’s full attention. “Apparently, there’s been some tension between Lieutenant O’Malley and Ensign Rodriguez. They used tae be quite close, but recently they’ve been seen arguin’ in the corridors. I dinnae ken the full story, but it’s causin’ a bit of a divide among the crew, with people takin’ sides.”

Randy paused, his concern for the crew evident. “I thought it would be important tae share this with ye, Captain. It might be worth addressin’ the situation before it escalates further and affects the morale and efficiency of the crew even more.”

Rende nodded and held up a finger as she tapped away at the computer. The voice recognition was nice, but she was a bit old fashioned, wanting a keyboard and mouse as it were. She pulled up the files of the two officers in question, just to get an idea of who they were. “You are a trained counselor are you no, En? You would be qualified ta handle this.”

Randy shifted in his seat, preparing to share more gossip he had picked up around the ship. “Another piece of news I’ve heard, Captain, is that one of our Engineers, Lieutenant Jensen, has been spendin’ quite a bit of time with the new science officer, Lieutenant Zhang. They’ve been workin’ together on a new propulsion project, and it seems they’ve become quite friendly, if ye catch my drift. Some crew members have started tae speculate if there’s more than just professional collaboration goin’ on between them.”

Rende nodded, “Such things happen in ships. I am certainly not goin’ ta tell the crew they can no engage in relationships. Or is there somethin’ concernin’ about them?”

He paused for a moment to let the information sink in, before continuing. “Lastly, there’s been a rumor spreadin’ about a possible gamblin’ ring operatin’ in one of the lower decks. A few crew members have been seen sneakin’ around late at night and returnin’ to their quarters with either a big grin or a sour expression on their faces. I havenae been able to confirm it myself, but it might be somethin’ tae look into, as it could lead tae trouble if it gets out of hand.” Randy leaned back in his chair, having shared the most pressing pieces of gossip he had gathered. This wasn’t everything, not by a long shot, but it was a taste of what was going on with the crew on a more personal level.

–Randy–

Rende nodded. “I agree. I have no problem with a friendly game, but gamblin’ can get outta hand. Maybe we’ll put one of Lt Anders JOs onta it. Unless ya think ya can wiggle yer way in?”

Asam, CO

Randy nodded in response to Rende’s question about his counseling qualifications. “Aye, Captain, I do have a background in counseling. I earned a Masters in Psychology with a focus on Counseling from the University of Stirling. So, if ye think it’s best, I could certainly step in and help resolve the situation between Lieutenant O’Malley and Ensign Rodriguez.”

“Service and space travel takes a toll on people. For a long time medical doctors have been equally responsible for the mental health of ships. I think that is ill conceived. Not that our doctors are not excellent at what they do, but double duty like that is asking a lot. I’ve seen your file and I don’t know what command was thinking sending you out here to train as a yeoman with all your qualifications. So let’s put them to work. See how you can help them.” Rende leaned back in her chair, lacking her fingers in her lap.

As for the relationship between the two officers and the gambling ring, Randy pondered for a moment before replying, “I dinnae see anythin’ inherently concerning about Lieutenant Jensen and Lieutenant Zhang’s relationship, as long as it doesnae interfere with their duties. As for the gamblin’ ring, I can certainly try tae get closer and find out more about it. But if ye think it’s best tae have one of Lieutenant Anders’ JOs on the case, I’ll leave it in their capable hands.”

–Randy–

Rende grinned, “Well leave Jensen and Zhang to figure it out. Now…sending in security might be best, but yer sister has been walkin’ me through the crew. Are ya familiar with En ch’Sirhc and Lt Ra’Ti?”

Asam, CO

Randy nodded with a determined expression, appreciating the Captain’s recognition of his qualifications and her willingness to utilize his skills. “Thank ye, Captain. I completely agree. It’s important tae have someone dedicated tae addressin’ the mental health needs of the crew. I’m grateful for the opportunity tae put my trainin’ tae good use and support the well-being of our shipmates. I’ll get started right away and do my best tae help those in need.”

Sitting back in his chair Randy tapped a heeled foot on the bulkhead in thought before he looked back at the captain, trying to recall any interactions he might have had with the two individuals the Captain mentioned. He shook his head and replied, “I cannae say I’m well acquainted with En ch’Sirhc and Lt Ra’Ti, Captain. I’ve seen them around the ship, but I dinnae know much about them personally. If ye think they might be of help, I’d be more than happy tae get tae know them better and work together tae address the crew’s concerns.”

–Randy–

Rende nodded, “I think you will find them a wealth of information. They have unique backgrounds that allow them to be quite flexible to any situation. If there is an illegal gambling ring on the ship, En ch’Sirhc I believe will be most invaluable. I believe he was key to the investigation into the attacks on Cmdr Alden and your sister, Yeoman Farquharson.”

Asam, CO

Randy’s expression hardened slightly at the mention of the attacks on his sister. He deeply cared for his twin, and any harm towards her was like an attack on himself. However, he quickly regained his composure and responded, “I appreciate the suggestion, Captain. I’ll be sure tae reach out tae En ch’Sirhc and Lt Ra’Ti. If they’ve been instrumental in past investigations, I’m certain they can provide valuable insights into this current situation. And I’m particularly grateful tae anyone who’s helped look after my sister. I’ll make sure tae thank them personally.”

–Randy–

“Lt Ra’Ti wasn’t here durin’ that time, but I believe he will be invaluable to the crew. I believe however it would be prudent to consult Lt Anders about this as well. Ship security is his prevue after all. However it might be a bit obvious to send a security officer down there.” Rende turned her cup on the desk absently as she thought it over, and then she put it aside. “What other observations have you come across?”

Asam, CO

“Indeed, Captain, consulting with Lt Anders would be wise,” Randy agreed, taking a moment to gather his thoughts. “Aside from the more immediate concerns we’ve discussed, there are a few other situations that may require a counsellor’s attention.”

He took a deep breath before continuing. “There’s a young ensign, Blair, who’s been strugglin’ with homesickness. It’s her first time away from Earth, and she’s been havin’ a tough time adjustin’. A few crew members have expressed worry about her, and I think she could benefit from some supportive counseling.”

“Then there’s Lt. Gillies in engineering,” he went on. “He’s been puttin’ in an excessive number of hours. The crew respects his dedication, but there’s concern that he’s pushin’ himself too hard, riskin’ both his health and potentially the safety of the ship if he’s too tired tae perform his duties effectively.”

Randy paused for a moment, remembering another situation that had come to his attention. “Lastly, there’s a bit of a cultural clash between two of our alien crew members, Ensign V’ril from Vulcan and Officer G’torr of Andoria. Their differing customs and beliefs have led tae some tensions. I believe some mediation could help them find common ground and promote a more harmonious work environment.”

Randy leaned back in his seat, hoping that these additional observations would give the Captain a fuller picture of the ship’s current state of affairs.

–Randy–

“Check with medical and see if Blair or Gillies have gone to see them about anything. Also speak to Gillies DH and shift lead. See what they think of his work and behavior. Then do what you can to help them both. Now V’ril and G’torr have there been any physical confrontations? If so I’d like to address them first and set the expectations. If it’s still in the cultural, I don’t really like you stage, then by all means intervene first. I am always around to ensure they understand the expectations.”
