“Yep, let’s go,” Cerny agreed. He was perfectly happy to let T’Pria drive, and took the passenger side position. “Anyone who can’t fit should be able to hang on the side of the truck.” That’s still a thing, right? he thought. He hadn’t actually seen a fire truck in… well… he couldn’t actually remember. They weren’t very necessary on Earth anymore.

He also looked to see if he could roll down a window or otherwise make some other form of equivalent opening that could be used to aim his phaser at any approaching cows. They were still far off, but he figured they would likely continue closing on their position. He didn’t draw it yet, instead opting to fiddle with the tricorder afterwards to figure out exactly where they needed to go and how to best get there.

The fire truck hat electrical windows so they could be lowered if he wanted. Getting to where they wanted to go wouldnt be hard, just a mile or so down the road to the mine which still belched smoke from its opening.

“Does that water cannon swivel?” he asked idly as he tried to look at a map.

– Ivo Cerny, XO/CSO

NE Fritz spoke from the back, “..Yep! Why you ask sir? Want me to hose down the cows when they get closer?” He chuckled.

“Actually, yes,” Cerny replied, deadly seriously as he kept looking at the map. “But only on my command.”

”..Understood sir!” The NE said.

“There is a road,” he told T’Pria. “The most expedient option is probably to just use it. If we encounter resistance from…” He hesitated as if the idea was actually still too silly to take seriously. “… the cows, you can probably just circle around them off road. The water cannon should be sufficient, but if you keep them on our right side, I can add my phaser to the crowd control effort.”

He adjusted the scanning settings on the tricorder to see if he could localize all of the cows and plot their positions relative to the road.

– Ivo Cerny, XO/CSO

Plotting came up that the cow herd would pass by the mining entrance about the time they would get within hosing distance of the mine itself.

“Agreed, Commander,” T’Pria replied, “maneuvering the vehicle onto the road now, Sir.”

Simple the controls might have been, but a smooth ride it was not. More accustomed to entering mathematical values into a terminal, here T’Pria found that she had to depress a large pedal in the floorboard to gain any movement from the vehicle, with another, separate pedal to the left to bring it to a stop. However, the ratio of pressure on the movement pedal to the speed the vehicle would obtain was…curious. And so, the truck began a series of lurching jumps followed by abrupt stops as it inched across the grass and onto the indicated road.

“This vehicle is…problematic,” the Vulcan exclaimed with rising frustration. In that moment, all attempts at emotional control seemed futile. Indeed, were Surak himself to materialise and appeal for internal harmony, T’Pria considered that she would gain an immense sense of pleasure from running him over with the truck.

But eventually, she gained control over the mechanical beast and the fire truck adopted a more even acceleration as it continued along the road and towards the smoke-engulfed mine.

  • Lt T’Pria (CE)

Grudgingly the old fire truck moved, and move it did roughly down the road to the mining entrance which still belched smoke and hints of flame. Nearby the cows were looking more restless tapping hooves and snorting in movements of their head. They clearly were agitated as the fire truck got closer to the mine and in turn themselves.

GM CockRoach

A new report came in from Black Wolf. =^=Cmdr. Cerny, a new tunnel was recently opened in the mine, designate Alpha-2. Logs show a red ore was discovered. It appears to be highly flammable, perhaps the reason for the burning mine, as well as causing intense skin irritation in humanoids. This is just an assumption, but perhaps it causes some kind of irritation in the cows as well, possibly making them ‘untrustworthy’?=^=
