Amber’s efforts to scan through the open computer system was easy. She found the following access points for further scans open to her.

1) Colony personal logs
2) Colony administrative logs
3) Colony shipping logs
4) Colony production and mining logs

Amber smiled. “Bingo…” she murmured. “Now… let’s see what we can find. You look promising.” She would start with production and mining. Maybe that would give some insight to the ‘cow’ issue.

Going down the list she would do shipping next, then administrative, then personal logs till she hopefully got some workable results. As the logs were loading, she called out. “I’ve got access to the computer. Looking thru production and mining logs now.”

Amber Comm

Kohana again came over to look over her shoulder. “Let’s see if we can pinpoint a time when the bovines became ‘untrustworthy’. Maybe there was some kind of catagion that was released from the mines, or. . . .maybe something was shipped to and released on the colony? Transfer the admin logs to one of the auxilary consoles and I’ll start going through those. Transfer the Personal logs to the navigation console. Mr. Myasnikov, care to do a little research?”

The chief moved to the aux station and began to go over the logs Amber had sent to him.

CPO Black Wolf (Helm)

Nodding, the young woman did as the Helm asked. That left her the production and mining, and the shipping logs to go thru. “We need to look for anything that pertains to the cows, their feed or ‘something’ that came in contact with them that may have altered their activity, or demeanor.” She set to work on her own files as the others got theirs.

Production, mining, and shipping logs came up. Most was fairly normal. Production rate of wine and milk was shown to be slightly up over the past month due to a bountiful local harvest and and improvement in the milking machines. but nothing stood out there. Mining logs showed new tunnels had been tapped into though, one such tunnel designated ‘Tunnel Alpha-2’ had yielded a strange red ore which the local colony scientists had been eager to study. Initial notes in the logs showed it was highly flammable and caused intense skin irritation in humanoids. Shipping logs showed they were on schedule to meet their quota of output for the next incoming cargo ship, though that obviously was held up since the Sentinel was here.

GM CockRoach

Amber frowned. “I’m not seeing much. Though there was a flammable compound found in one of the mines. Perhaps the cause of the fire and irritated the skin of humanoids. It was from Alpha 2. A new dig site.” She forwarded the pertinent information to the Helm and the CO.

Amber Comm

Kohana continued to scan the admin logs while Amber reported what she found. He stopped and turned in her direction when she began talking about the new discovery. After her report, he passed the info to the landing parties.

=^=Cmdr. Cerny, a new tunnel was recently opened in the mine, designate Alpha-2. Logs show a red ore was discovered. It appears to be highly flammable, perhaps the reason for the burning mine, as well as causing intense skin irritation in humanoids. This is just an assumption, but perhaps it causes some kind of irritation in the cows as well, possibly making them ‘untrustworthy’?=^=

CPO Black Wolf (Helm)

=^= I would agree that is a reasonable assumption to make =^= T’Pria responded over the comms. =^= Thank you for the insight. =^=

Administrator logs came up then for Kohana, they were divided into personal and standard log formats. Playback of video recordings or audio was possible! Showing yet again someone had disabled the colony security for someone or something. Perhaps whoever had left the message of not trusting the cows was to blame? Perhaps they knew all was lost somehow and was trying to help whoever came next?

GM CockRoach

“Sir,” Amber smiled, “I have visual and audio personal logs. Looking for the most recent. Shall I put them up on the screen?” She wasn’t sure whether that was wise or not. But in all honesty, they needed to know and the more who knew, the more minds could help work on the problem and keep it from happening to her own crew mates.

Amber Comm

“On screen, ensign. Lets see what we’ve got,” Kohana replied.

CPO Black Wolf (Helm)

Amber would put the top three visual logs up in chronological order. Then would play the top three audio as well.

Amber Comm

The last three logs from third to most recent came up. =/\= This is Administrator Viv of Deba Colony administration log. I’m happy to report that our efforts to dig deep in the nearby mine has broken through in Tunnel Alpha-2! The ore were processing out of there is of the highest quality for building metals. Our miners also report a strange unknown reddish ore though which has caused those not protected extreme irritation on their skins. Ms Roberts from the dairy farm was our first ‘effected’ and showed signs of physical and mental irritation, but after a brief clean up and scrub down in the biolabs she returned home later that day to milk her cows. Thankfully production is also up there and we should be ready to send a comm alert for pick up by a sector cargo ship.=/\= Viv said, this log was from about 5 weeks ago.

The next log came up =/\= Administrator Viv of Deba Colony supplemental log to previous admin log. The science boys are in a tizzy about this ‘red ore’ we found. The stuff somehow has properties like that of a thinking organic being they claim. Insane I say! Thinking rocks, pish! Whats next? Intelligent lava beasts? =/\= She said. There was a pause then she continued =/\= Anyhow it seems since my report two days ago to the previous log Ms Roberts’ cattle have grown, for lack of a better term, grumpy. They keep finding ways out of their confinement pens, and one of their attendants got kicked in the head giving him quite the concussion. I’m confident the cattle came be brought under control by whatever is making them grumpy and I’ve been assured nothing due to this ‘red ore’ is the cause, nor will it effect the other cattle herds nearby.=/\= Viv said ending the log, this was two days after the previous log.

The final log came up then, in this Viv sounded desperate and out of breath, in the background there was the sounds of screams, laser pistol fire, angry sounding ‘mooing’ and what could be explosives going off. =/\= This is Administrator Viv of Deba Colony, if you’re listening to this, do not, I repeat DO NOT trust the cows! The red ore we found it DOES have intelligent properties to it, some kind of parasitical life form which has enhanced the local cattle beyond normal. They’re rebelling!!! =/\= she said almost sounding half laughing or hysterical at the idea of rebel cows. =/\= We were able to isolate the children in the mines in protective clothing with a few of the teenage children. The fires there will keep them safe from the cows for now, the ore burning. We’ve provided them enough food, water, supplies, and the means to dig out if needed for 5 weeks. We’re....=/\= there was suddenly the sound of crashing and someone shouting before Viv continued sounding scared now. =/\= We’ve drawn off the cattle’s anger from the children, hopefully someone comes before they’re forced to dig themselves out and face the cattle’s wrath. =/\= Another bang was heard and more mooing and laser pistol fire. =/\= Oh god the herd is breaking down the barricades! Please if you’re hearing this I’ve unlocked remote system access to all colony systems. I’m hoping the parasite cattle can’t operate our technology yet but they’re learning things fast if the science boys are right. Find the children, and scorch this planet if you got to0! =/\= Another bang this one sounding nearby with an angry deep ‘mooooo’ sound. =/\= I gotta go, this is Vic signing off. =/\= She said ending the call.

GM CockRoach

After viewing all three of the logs, Kohana ordered the NE at the science station to scan the mines for any life signs. Next, he ordered hazmat suits sent down to both teams (in case they had to go into the mines to rescue the children. His next action was to inform both landing parties of the information.

=^=Captain, Cmdr. Cerny, we’ve been able to access logs from the colony.”

OOC: Instead of repeating everything the GM said, I’m going to copy and paste the info into the landing party threads (to save time).

IC: I’m sending protective suits to both parties in case you have to go into the mines to get the children. We’re scanning for life signs and hoping we’ll be able to beam them out. If you can get a sample of the ore, I’ll have science and medical start studying it in hope of creating a vaccine or remedy. If it affects bovines, who knows what other animals it might affect.=^=

“Well done getting access to those logs, Mr. Josen. Hopefully, we got here in time to save the children.”
