Already out of the vehicle and beginning to suit up, still T’Pria managed to catch the XO’s expression through the passenger window of the firetruck and she murmured, not quite to herself, “We are trained Starfleet officers, Captain. I am sure we can handle a herd of cows.”

Ivo smirked briefly as he climbed out of the truck.

Ivo took the communicator off of his belt and flipped it open in one very practiced move. =/\= Zarath, this is Cerny: Understood. T’Pria and the rest of our team are actually at the mine entrance right now. We’ve got a fire truck, and we’re already planning a rescue mission. Should we wait for you? =/\=

– Ivo Cerny, XO/CSO

The answer came back directly. Surely Ivo could picture the Captain’s expression. =/\=If you’ve got a plan, go on in. We’ll join you as we can. Be safe./=/\=

He could, in fact, picture the Captain’s expression, and knew The’lin was probably blaming himself for not already knowing this, which was a bit silly. =/\= Affirmative. We’ll try to provide regular updates. Cerny Out. =/\= He flipped the lid of the communicator shut.

Encased within the protective clothing and appearing all the more irritable for that fact, T’Pria nodded to Cerny. “The Captain’s obvious confidence in us is most reassuring.”

From behind the face shield it was not quite possible to determine whether the substantial sarcasm was intended, or merely just another curious, acoustical effect.

“It’s not like that,” he said as he started getting his own set of protective gear on. Having worked with The’lin before on their previous assignment, he already knew not to take it that way. But, how to explain that?

“If he didn’t actually trust us to do it, he would have had us wait. He knows we can handle it, he’s just concerned for our well-being. He’s being… motherly.”

Her eyebrow raised almost instinctively, but the Vulcan offered no further verbal comment.

How did she get these pants on while still wearing a skirt? he wondered. His mind kept wandering down this particular road as he continued fitting the rest of the protective gear on.

Then, turning to face the burning mine, she added over her shoulder, “Shall we go, Commander?”

“Yes, let’s,” he replied as he finally fastened the face shield. “You men stay here and cover the entrance. The Captain and his team will be here shortly.”

As he started walking with T’Pria, he checked the tricorder one more time to see if he could get a relative fix on the distress signal that had brought them here in the first place, and a possible path through the mine to get there.

Scans returned showing the fire burning was their first obstacle to overcome, probably easy enough with the fire truck now nearby. Once inside heading down a left side curling down passage a quarter of a mile into the ground was the next step.

The two NE’s with the group nodded. Fritz commenting. “..Dont worry sirs we’ll protect you from the cows!!” he said jovially.

GM CockRoach

“We require you to protect us from the fire first,” T’Pria replied, her back to the fire truck as she began to move away from it. “The water cannon should offer sufficient extinguishing capabilities for you to clear us a passage into the mine itself.”

Then, catching up to the XO, she added, “I hope you do not object to a little water, Commander.”
