[snip]

The last three logs from third to most recent came up. =/\= This is Administrator Viv of Deba Colony administration log. I’m happy to report that our efforts to dig deep in the nearby mine has broken through in Tunnel Alpha-2! The ore were processing out of there is of the highest quality for building metals. Our miners also report a strange unknown reddish ore though which has caused those not protected extreme irritation on their skins. Ms Roberts from the dairy farm was our first ‘effected’ and showed signs of physical and mental irritation, but after a brief clean up and scrub down in the biolabs she returned home later that day to milk her cows. Thankfully production is also up there and we should be ready to send a comm alert for pick up by a sector cargo ship.=/\= Viv said, this log was from about 5 weeks ago.

The next log came up =/\= Administrator Viv of Deba Colony supplemental log to previous admin log. The science boys are in a tizzy about this ‘red ore’ we found. The stuff somehow has properties like that of a thinking organic being they claim. Insane I say! Thinking rocks, pish! Whats next? Intelligent lava beasts? =/\= She said. There was a pause then she continued =/\= Anyhow it seems since my report two days ago to the previous log Ms Roberts’ cattle have grown, for lack of a better term, grumpy. They keep finding ways out of their confinement pens, and one of their attendants got kicked in the head giving him quite the concussion. I’m confident the cattle came be brought under control by whatever is making them grumpy and I’ve been assured nothing due to this ‘red ore’ is the cause, nor will it effect the other cattle herds nearby.=/\= Viv said ending the log, this was two days after the previous log.

The final log came up then, in this Viv sounded desperate and out of breath, in the background there was the sounds of screams, laser pistol fire, angry sounding ‘mooing’ and what could be explosives going off. =/\= This is Administrator Viv of Deba Colony, if you’re listening to this, do not, I repeat DO NOT trust the cows! The red ore we found it DOES have intelligent properties to it, some kind of parasitical life form which has enhanced the local cattle beyond normal. They’re rebelling!!! =/\= she said almost sounding half laughing or hysterical at the idea of rebel cows. =/\= We were able to isolate the children in the mines in protective clothing with a few of the teenage children. The fires there will keep them safe from the cows for now, the ore burning. We’ve provided them enough food, water, supplies, and the means to dig out if needed for 5 weeks. We’re....=/\= there was suddenly the sound of crashing and someone shouting before Viv continued sounding scared now. =/\= We’ve drawn off the cattle’s anger from the children, hopefully someone comes before they’re forced to dig themselves out and face the cattle’s wrath. =/\= Another bang was heard and more mooing and laser pistol fire. =/\= Oh god the herd is breaking down the barricades! Please if you’re hearing this I’ve unlocked remote system access to all colony systems. I’m hoping the parasite cattle can’t operate our technology yet but they’re learning things fast if the science boys are right. Find the children, and scorch this planet if you got to0! =/\= Another bang this one sounding nearby with an angry deep ‘mooooo’ sound. =/\= I gotta go, this is Vic signing off. =/\= She said ending the call.

IC: I’m sending protective suits to both parties in case you have to go into the mines to get the children. We’re scanning for life signs and hoping we’ll be able to beam them out. If you can get a sample of the ore, I’ll have science and medical start studying it in hopes of creating a vaccine or remedy. If it affects bovines, who knows what other animals it might affect.=^=

CPO Black Wolf (Helm)

The’lin opened his communicator and responded to the Chief’s message. =/\=Thank you, Mr. Blackwolf. Excellent work. We’re going to move the search party to the mining tunnels, please prepare to receive refugees, I want transporters standing by. Zarath Out./=/\=

=^=Aye, sir. Both Sickbay and the transporter room are standing by.=^=

Black Wolf (Helm)

The Andorian turned a tiny knob, which made several distinct clicks before the device switched over to Cerny’s communicator channel with the usual chirping alert noise.
=/\=Zarath to Ivo, we’re going to head for the mine indicated in the log Blackwolf sent. Are you and T’pria finished? We’ve already lost a man to one of the bull creatures, so I want you to be extra careful… Update me as soon as you can and we’ll plan to meet up./=/\= He closed the communicator with a snap of his wrist and looked at Hudson.

Paul looked around. ”We can’t leave children in the bloody mines for christsake…we need to go get them, ” he turned his scan to the creatures lungs and then more closely onto the irritated skin.

Doc Hudson CMO

“Don’t worry, Doc, we’ll go now. Leave a transponder and have the Chief beam Mr. Firstblood home… for burial.” The’lin ground his teeth on the last word

The scans finished up confirming for the CMO that a reddish parasitic like species was embedded in the brain of the bull through the nervous system there by enhancing its control and the beasts intelligence by three times its normal levels. Thankfully it wasnt a threat it seems to humanoids for reasons beyond the ability of the tricorder to discern.

GM CockRoach

”Oh boy…” Paul muttered as he frowned at the results. ”Parasite captain…” he said looking over at Zarath and then considering if he could remove part of it for study…somehow.

Doc Hudson CMO

He looked over Hudson’s shoulder at the scan results. “It’s always space bugs… Can we be infected?”

-Zarath, CO

Thankfully the CMO could confirm that humanoids could not be infected, they just wound up with a nasty itching irritation on their skins when exposed.

GM CockRoach

”No…but it’ll itch like nobody’s business so get clear of it. No one touch the cows and full decontamination in the transporters would be advisable on beam up.”

The XO’s voice eventually came through the tiny box that Zarath was holding, and it was all business: =/\= Zarath, this is Cerny: Understood. T’Pria and the rest of our team are actually at the mine entrance right now. We’ve got a fire truck, and we’re already planning a rescue mission. Should we wait for you? =/\=

– Ivo Cerny, XO/CSO

Opening the comm box again, Th’elin shook his head. =/\=If you’ve got a plan, go on in. We’ll join you as we can. Be safe./=/\= Silently, the Captain cursed himself for not having been more aware. “We’ve got to get to the mine. Cerny is about to head inside with his team…” The andorian looked concerned.

-Zarath, CO

=/\= Affirmative. We’ll try to provide regular updates. Cerny Out. =/\= The’lin would note the slightly softer tone with which that last report was given, and the implied message.

– Ivo Cerny, XO/CSO

Getting to the mine wouldnt be too hard on foot, they only had to trek a mile or two down the road unfortantly that direct route took them very close to the pens housing many of the cow herds.

GM CockRoach

Th’elin did note Ceryn’s tone, and the implied message of it. He shook his head and clipped the comm box back on his belt. “We’ve got to move fast. Ovik, Doc, send what you have to the Sentinel for study and let’s get moving.” This mission was off to a bad start and it was time to start turning the tide. “We need a ride…” He muttered, looking around for any sort of vehicle that might be operational. “We’ve got to get to that Mine quickly, and with a minimum exposure to these creatures.” Moving fast, he kicked open the door to one of the nearby structures and looked inside.

-Zarath, CO

Paul grumbled and got his samples, he took from the creatures skin, some more blood and a few deep tissue biopsy scans of the organs and brain. He sent the readings to the ships main computer via the tricorder link up.

Then he followed the captain. ”You kicking doors left an’ right will sure to keep anything away.” he muttered sarcastically and then paused. ”Are there meant to be other animals in this place?”
