“Welcome back.” Mike said softly. He thanked the God, Alah, Buddha, and every Greek and Roman god he could think of, for seeing her return to normal again. ” That was some nasty hit you’ve taken. But I think it was more. I was all confused, and I saw Lieutenant Ros, and bridge was also all wierd, I have no idea where anyone is.....” He tried to explain everything at once, and he was babbling. Although he managed to overcome the disorientation, he still felt helpless without her.
He paused and smiled. “Doesn’t matter. I things are returning to normal, so take it easy. “

As Kristi was regaining consciousness, the ship lurched with a big booming noise, as if they had been fired upon.

Although main power had been returning to normal, the warp core suddenly began losing power. The antimatter containment fields were failing and there was a plasma leak.

“Ugh, guess it’s not over yet.” Mike sighed. “No rest for us engineers, eh. I better check what’s happening.”

He hesitated just a moment to see, if Kristi, stubborn as she usually was, would try to stand up, so he might help her or if she would remain lying down. Then it was time to rush to the console and see what was happening and how to fix it.

“Just another day,” she laughed, letting him help her up as she winced a moment and rubbed the bump on her head.

“Go… I’m fine.” She kissed his cheek and gave a gentle shove to his chest. She wasn’t far behind and leaned on the other side of the main console as her own hands typed out a query for how many people were on board.

“The Captain disappeared. The XO is now the Captain.” She glanced up to see what his reaction would be. “I’ve got so much to tell you. But not right now. Let’s figure out what’s going on with the brat now.” She’d privately started calling the Viking the nickname several weeks ago when it was being particularly nasty. It seemed to fit the temperamental ship to a ‘T’.

“Something very strange has been happening. I only learned about new XO a few minutes ago.. and now she’s the CO already. Strange indeed. We need to find out what is happening before it’s too late.” He said.

Although he knew he needed to hurry to the console, Mike wasn’t as fast as he could be, because somehow he didn’t want to go away from Kristi, in case she felt sick again or even fell.

Only after seeing her back on her feet, did he step it up. Quickly he pulled up the damage report, to see what that explosion was.

The console flickered and then went dead. All around Engineering, consoles and displays were doing the same.

NE Truman and NE Washington were working at a console station along the wall just inside the entrance to Engineering. One moment they were looking around in wonder at the current state of things. The next moment they were gone. They had completely vanished from sight. Not only that but the entire bulkhead, including the consoles with it was now gone, leaving a gaping hole from the corridor all the way into engineering.

“This is a lost cause.” Mike cursed. “I don’t know if we’re still hallucinating, in some kind of simulation or under attack.” He rushed over to Kristi. “Can you walk? We should try and get to the hangar. With a bit of luck, we can use a shuttle to asses the situation.”

And as last resort, it could be used as a means to escape.

It would be no easy choice, abandoning ship, but sometimes it can be a smarter choice. Maybe they could call for help or at least tell what happened, so no other ship meets the same fate.

Mike was bound to get Kristi to safety, and would even carry her if need be.

Kristi cried out in shock as the two NEs and the wall disappeared. Without thinking, she put a level one containment field around engineering and started rotating the shield harmonics to the ship. Since no word had come from the bridge, she wasn’t going to assume anyone was even there. “Mike, we can’t leave. What if we go out there and the Viking disappears. I’ve talked to Kalika, the girl who came back after being gone six months. The place she ended up was awful.” Kristi shuddered remembering the visions Kalika’s story had left her with. “We can’t let them end up there.”

She pointed to the warp core. “See if you can figure out why it’s breaching. I’m going to try and hail the bridge and keep the ship hidden with shield shifting to see if we can save anyone else.”

=^=Engineering to bridge. Please… is anyone left up there?=^= Kristi’s voice on the comms was clear, but it was obvious she was upset and trying her best to keep it dampened down. =^=Bridge… please answer…=^= She was panicking but keeping it barely under control as her second hail came before anyone could answer the first.
