“This is a lost cause.” Mike cursed. “I don’t know if we’re still hallucinating, in some kind of simulation or under attack.” He rushed over to Kristi. “Can you walk? We should try and get to the hangar. With a bit of luck, we can use a shuttle to asses the situation.”

And as last resort, it could be used as a means to escape.

It would be no easy choice, abandoning ship, but sometimes it can be a smarter choice. Maybe they could call for help or at least tell what happened, so no other ship meets the same fate.

Mike was bound to get Kristi to safety, and would even carry her if need be.

Kristi cried out in shock as the two NEs and the wall disappeared. Without thinking, she put a level one containment field around engineering and started rotating the shield harmonics to the ship. Since no word had come from the bridge, she wasn’t going to assume anyone was even there. “Mike, we can’t leave. What if we go out there and the Viking disappears. I’ve talked to Kalika, the girl who came back after being gone six months. The place she ended up was awful.” Kristi shuddered remembering the visions Kalika’s story had left her with. “We can’t let them end up there.”

She pointed to the warp core. “See if you can figure out why it’s breaching. I’m going to try and hail the bridge and keep the ship hidden with shield shifting to see if we can save anyone else.”

=^=Engineering to bridge. Please… is anyone left up there?=^= Kristi’s voice on the comms was clear, but it was obvious she was upset and trying her best to keep it dampened down. =^=Bridge… please answer…=^= She was panicking but keeping it barely under control as her second hail came before anyone could answer the first.

Mike looked around, but could see only emergency lightning still operating. Every other console was dark, now including Kristi’s.

“Kristi… there’s not much we can do from here.” He said calmly, almost lovingly. “This doesn’t look like the disappearances from before, looks more to me like something beamed out whole sections of the ship.” Their transporters often malfunctioned, but right now the ship had barely any power left, so it couldn’t be that.

“We need to find out what is happening, and I don’t think we can do much here.”

He knew how stubborn Kristi could get, when it came to the ship. But as much as she wouldn’t abandon ship, he didn’t want to abandon her. If somehow they end up in the limbo, where Sharon, Kalika and many others disappeared to, he wanted to at least be with her.

Kristi had shaken her head at the idea of taking the shuttle out. If they left, and the ship disappeared…

Then she had an idea. “You’re right. We can’t do anything more from here. Let’s get to the bridge. If anyone is left, they’ll be there, or at least they’ll know.” She came up to Mike and pressed a hand to his chest as she rose on her tip toes to kiss him gently, her voice dropping slightly. “We can’t leave the ship, Mike. We can’t risk it disappearing without us.” The pain in the edge of her words was more fear than anger. She was determined and wasn’t going to let him disappear on her, either.

“Let’s go. And remember, I love you. No matter what happens to either of us.” She turned swiftly before a tear fell from her welled up eyes. She had known Kalika regretted never telling the ones she loved that she did. She didn’t want that to be one of her regrets if something happened. She moved to the consoles to transfer controls to the bridge, then realized they were dead. Sighing, she shook her head and reached for Mike’s hand. “We need to go…”

“Ok. If you need help just say so and I’ll carry you.” Mike said. If the turbo lifts still worked, then getting to the bridge would be quick. One minute didn’t seem like much, and he knew he’d spend way more time arguing with Kristi not to go there and head for the shuttles directly. With engineering dead, he didn’t have much hope in finding anything intact. But just perhaps there was still someone there.

While the turbo lift itself still looked in one piece, Mike did notice the hallway was much bigger then usual. Mostly because a section of the wall, seperating hallway and crew quarters was simply missing. He noticed a part of the floor was missing as well, but the floor itself still felt just as sturdy as normal.

“Perhaps we’re finally getting that ship overhaul we wanted, but they forgot to inform us?” He tried to lighten the mood. Truth was, if he got his hands on whoever was messing with his ship, they would soon be missing a few teeth. Or if they don’t have that a tentacle or two.
