After the dedication ceremony had ended, Michelle made her way to the main gangway to board the new ship. Looking around from her perch on the bridge that was suspended over the large loading bay. For the most part the crew seemed to be in good spirits. This was a new adventure for many of them. For some of them, it was a chance to leave the past behind and move on.

Slowly descending the stairs and stepping into the crowd, Michelle noticed a lot of eyes following her movements. She gave polite nods to all the new faces, all the crew names she would have to learn.

Making her way towards the gangway, Michelle looked around for a familiar face. Someone she could cling onto for the moment. It was all a little overwhelming, and she was not one to show her emotions freely. She kept her face stern and focused. The last thing she wanted was the crew to see her nerves at the moment.

Avarak fell into step beside the captain, having noticed the small signs of her condition. “It appears as though there is quite the excitement in the room. I am not surprised though, for many there is no love lost for the old Viking and its… eccentricities.”

Michelle looked over at Avarak, and a slight look of relief crossed her face. “Yes. I think it will be good for everyone to have a fresh start and move on.” A small sigh escaped her lips, and she tucked a stray strand of her black hair behind her ear. “I’m going to be relying on you a lot to help me through all of this. I’m sure there’s going to be a lot of emotions and anxiety starting off on a new ship.” Not to mention her own anxiety about taking command of a crew for the first time. Not that she doubted her own abilities. She knew she could do the job. It was more about how the crew would respond to her and if she could earn their respect.

BUMP for CNS

Avarak just nodded. “I agree, although I am sure it will not be as drastic a change considering the condition the previous ship was in. To many, this will seem like what you humans refer to as ‘a five star hotel’.”
